I'd Rather Stay Onsite

Just returned from a Friday-Tuesday stay where we stayed off-site for the first time (this was our 11th trip). We were in Orlando for a business conference, so we had to stay at the conference hotel. It was a fabulous hotel--the nicest place I've ever stayed. But--and I don't mean to sound ungrateful, mind you--I would rather stay at any resort in WDW including the Value resorts and be on-site than be in the nicest hotel in Orlando and be off-site. The time factor involved in staying off-site is a major disadvantage. In spite of the flaws in bus transportation at WDW, it far outweighs the alternative of driving and parking yourself--especially at the MK. And to tell you the truth, I just felt a little out of the loop by not being on the property. We love the Disney feel of the resorts. Can't wait to be back in July at WL!

I agree with you! Unless we have our car or a rental and have plans to go other places then I "might" consider staying off property. Even my DH (who isn't as big of a WDW fan.... CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT????? ) prefers staying on property. Next trip I will be planning will be with my sister in law and her "younger" children (13 & 16). This way I can get my fill and nt burn out Hubby

For me, I think the atmosphere is different off-site. I will do what I can to stay on-site. Plus I like the early entry days.

I don't use the transportation.. I always rent a car because I like the freedom of it and I always go other places too.

Me too! We rent a car on our trips (we combine it with staying onsite at Universal for a few days too) and still will stay onsite at WDW, even at a monorail resort!!

Now that Disney does the transport to and from the airport I'll never leave the property! 2 weeks in July at WL and BWV!!!

We too are Disney snobs! DH calls it being "on campus" and it's the only way to go!

Not only were all future visits on site, but our one off site stay helped in our decision to buy into DVC over 10 years ago.

Our first family trip was offsite. We had an incredible time. We didn't have any plansThe weather was great. This past Jan we stayed at the WL. We loved the Lodge but our first trip was better. Maybe we had an overdose of Disney this time. The weather was very cool. It is so hard to compare the two experiences. Our first trip was so magical and I think I was expecting too much and got a little disapointed. Vacationing has a lot to do with the traveler state of mind. When you expect too much it is easy to be let down. I love WDW and will return with a more laid back attitude. I overplanned this last trip and we were exhausted.

Staying off site is good if you want to visit Universal for part of your trip. We stayed off-site at the start of our trip and had a great time. I think at the end of a trip, off-site would be a letdown, but at the start of the trip it was great. It gave me time to appreciate just being in Orlando. Once on-property, I don't want to stop, and I don't want to go off-property. Even going to the pool for more than a quick visit is tough. Off-site, we had a relaxing time by the pool each morning - and we got to see some of the fun things on I-drive, plus we saved a good deal of money, and our hotel was really nice. The lines were short enough at Universal that paying to be on-property there would have been a waste. I do wish Universal had a reasonably priced hotel though.
