I'd make a poll but would be too many options

I somehow got wrangled into being in charge of the concessions at our home gymnastic meet. I'm in charge of making the menu and want to keep things simple, but still have enough choices. So here is my question, if you are eating at a concession stand, what sort of foods would you like to be able to choose from?

Our Gymnastic Concession stand will serve 250 girls and families over two days and will serve:

Hot Dogs
Meatballs in crocks
Chilli in crocks
Nachos and cheese
popcorn
bagels
muffins
cookies
bananas
granola bars
fruit snacks
candy
sun chips
doughnuts
water
gaterade
juice
soda
coffee
tea
etc.
This was a success last year and we were able to get many items donated by local places.

first question is: is there a "Snack Bar" available for you to use or are you doing this from a table set up in a hallway? makes a difference.

When I was in charge of the Snack Bar for Little League and there was an actual small building for us to use, we offered nachos, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, sodas, candy and on cold nights - coffee & hot chocolate.

I'd suggest the standards from our Little League snack bar.

Hot Dogs.
Nachos.

Anything that can be microwaved would be good, Uncrustables, Hot Pockets, microwave popcorn.

Our basketball games serve popcorn, nachos (just cheese and japalenos), candy bars, sodas/water bottles, and really big suckers.

Football adds hot dogs and hot chocolate.

IDK, maybe a mix of the above with some granola bars or fruit-things.

Here is our list so far, and almost everything will be donated.

Hot dogs- Walmart donation
Chili- Culvers
Walking Tacos- Meat from Wendy's, Fritos from Frito Lay
Possibly Nachos

Snacks:
Bagels and donuts from Atlanta Bread Company
Coffee and hot chocolate- Starbucks
Cookies, brownies, rice crispie treats, granola bars, puppy chow, giant pickles- donated by parents
Popcorn
Chips-Donated from Frito Lay
Pepsi products- Donated from Pepsi
Fresh fruit

The snacks seem pretty decent, but the "main course" seems to be lacking. How would sloppy joes or pulled pork go over? We wanted to do baked potatoes but people said those wouldn't go over well.

I will have access to pretty much all of the equipment from the actual snack shop. The hot dog roller thingy, popcorn machine...

Could you talk some sort of sub shop into donating some subs:confused3

That would give another easy lunch option.

I like the way you think!! Pizza was nixed because we didn't have a good enough way to keep it warm.

When my daughter did gymnastics, the biggest sellers at our home meet were fruit cups and veggies. The kids (and their parents) loved the carrots, celery and sliced peppers with ranch dip.

To make it more profitable for the gym, we asked each family to bring 2 peppers (red, green or yellow), and fuit (melon, berries or grapes).

We would usually run out by 11:00 and have to buy more supplies.

Hope this helps!

We are doing the fresh fruit- Apples, bananas, grapes

How do you do the veggies? Divide them up and throw them in baggies? What about the ranch, do you put that in something, or have it out and they can get it if they want?

One of the popular ones from our swim meets is taco in a bag. But you need a crock pot for the meat.

We would put the meat, cheese, lettuce, etc in an individual size Dorito or Fritos bag.

We sold the veggies in nacho containers and put the ranch dip in the area where cheese would go.

We cut the peppers and celery into strips.

I was also going to suggest subs. In our area, they give you a "deal" on the subs, but will not give them to organizations. You can still make a profit on them, but again, they are not donated.

The last event I worked at something like this the school had big refrigerators for us to use to keep them cold. The school did not provide any other accomations, so everything that was "hot" was in a crock pot or a nesco roaster. And - the pop was all iced in coolers (this was a pain...but that is what we had to deal with.)

As other PP's have mentioned - veggies and dip is a hit.

What about individually packaged string cheese?

Yogurt???

our band boosters do the concession stands at the football games, and we serve:

pizza
chick-fil-a sandwiches
hamburgers (grilled on-site)
nachos with cheese
assorted candy bars (snickers, twix, reese cups, etc.)
20 ounce soft drinks
iced tea
popcorn
hot chocolate (we usually have a couple of cool friday nights near the end of the season)
coffee
gatorade
bottled water
candy (large pixi stix are VERY popular)
cotton candy
various types of chips
large dill pickles

i'm sure there's more, i just can't remember it all. we also sell band t-shirts, shakers in the school colors, rubber bracelets with our school's name and mascot, and bead necklaces (also school colors).

We also purchased sandwich trays from Jimmy Johns. A variety of turkey, ham and beef. They provided a large bag of condiments for us to put out.

We are having the walking tacos. Wendy's donates the meat and has a warming container they let us use. Although I'll dump the fritos out and save the bags since we make money by turning them back in to Frito Lay. They seem to be a big hit and we'll have all of the side out so they can choose what they want.

Somebody was really thinking! I would have never considered that! :lmao: Thanks for that idea!!

Forgive me for not multi-quoting, I always remember when it's too late!!

Let me just say, we don't have chick-fil-a here, and I looooooooove it. If I were to go to a concession stand offering their food, I'd eat until I was ready to burst! (Seriously a bit jealous right now)

The burgers would be good, but the distance to a grill would be somewhat far, and grilling when it's 0-20 degrees isn't really fun. I had considered making brats, those would be okay if I threw them in a nesco with some beer and onion.

We put a variety of cut up fruit into cups that the kids could eat with a fork.

How about frozen and chilled gogurts.

A another big seller was chocolate dipped pretzal sticks

The sloppy joes did not sell as fast as the subs.

the chick-fil-a sandwiches are a HUGE hit, and always the first thing to sell out. i think brats are a great idea! not your usual concession stand fare, and i bet they'll be a happy surprise to many-i was shocked to realize how many people show up at sporting events without eating lunch or dinner!
