Hi all

Quick question about photo ID at WDW. I would prefer not to carry my passport with me everywhere in case something happens to it. For occasions where I might be asked for photo id e.g. purchasing adult beverages ;) what are the chances they will accept a colour, laminated photocopy of my passport?

I don't have a driving license so my passport is my only photo ID. Would this work or am I best just carrying my passport with me?

TIA :)

Not sure how old you are and whether ID would be needed. However I really doubt they would except a photo copy of any kind of ID.

The photocard of a driving licence is sufficient (and if lost less hassle than a passport)

We will carry ours this trip as we were ID'd in the Hogs Head and refused Alcohol because we could not prove our age - (we are both early 30's with a 10 & 12 year old ) Was very peed off as we queued 20 mins just to have a drink in there!

(Incidently we left the bar and walked to a drinks cart outside where my husband proceeded to buy his much desired drink of Bud!)

You don't have a licence, but do you have a provisional? I used my provisional to buy a cigar at DTD and also it was used at the entrance gate when my ticket had problems.

They accepted it.

I do have a provisional - or I should say I did, I think it's actually just about to expire. I wasn't planning on using it as it has my maiden name on it, wasn't sure if this would be a problem as it won't match the name on my KTTW card.

It won't be too much of an issue to carry my passport if I really need to - I'm sure there's a zip pocket in my bag which should keep it safe, was just wondering if there was a way around it

Thanks for the info!

I'm 28 and DH is 30 - he has a driving license so it won't be an issue for him. We've always been asked for ID whenever we've tried to buy drinks - I'm not complaining, just means someone thinks I look under 21 :rotfl:

I can't remember the last time I was asked for ID at Disney (I am 36) but my mother in law who is in her 60's was asked for id at Universal. She said you must be crazy and the guy serving at the cart says that Universal's policy is to ID everyone.

No problem, happy planning and have a great trip :goodvibes

We nearly always get asked for ID, especially at universal and were in our early 30's. Your provisional license will be fine even with your maiden name as it has your photo, I wouldn't like to carry my passport around even the simplest things like going on a water ride could ruin it.

I got asked for ID a few weeks ago, three days before my 45th birthday I'm pleased to report! :goodvibes

Im taking my provisional out with me, but i willl have my passport as well ( just incase). If they accept the provisional easy enough, ill just take that out and leave the passport at the hotel.

The guy at Universal told me it is their policy to ID people who look under 40! Having that refusal before - we will make sure we are prepared this time.

Incidently, the photo card on my license has just expired - is this needed for hiring a car in the US? Or is the paper bit sufficient, I don't want to risk not getting it back in time.

I don't have a photo type driving licence nor do I fancy taking my passport to Universal, have never been asked for ID before.I might just take the chance without it ? Any thoughts ?

They don't use the paper part, they use the Photocard but I don't know how close they look. I know they type in info off the card but is it just the lic#? or do they input expiry date? if they do you will have trouble.
If you are not going for 6 weeks I would get it renewed ASAP.

Do you use a credit card or travellers cheques?
You can be asked for photo ID for CC, TC, using park tickets or buying alcholol.
Also not sure about driving, don't you need photo ID if stopped? might be worth checking.
Some days I am never asked for ID, other days I feel as though everyone wants to see it.

I also dont really wanna carry my passport i have a provisional and my girlfriend has a full driving license seems like these should suffice, ill probably take the passports on the first day to ensure we collect the tickets with little hassle!

We have been asked for photo ID when using a credit card before. This has happened regularly when buying t shirts and stuff at universals citywalk. I never carry my passport, just my photo driving licence. This was the only reason I got a photo licence so that I could use it in the US as ID.

I've been ID'd soooo many times for drinks and paying with cc whilst out in the States that I now just carry my driving license with me all the time even in the UK so that if we ever have an accident it's on me.

Disney will not accept a photocopy of passport even if it's laminated.

They want to see some sort of official, original ID with date of birth so a provisional license is acceptable

Thanks Wayneg,
I do use cc but not travellers this time around.I won't be driving nor do I hold a new type UK licence,I still have the old paper type. Not sure what to do here,we have been before and it has never been a problem.

Didn't need CC ID so much in the parks(Used KTTW card) but out shopping I was asked more than ever this trip, obviously buying the Ipad we expected it but even buying a Tshirt in Converse at $10 I had to show it:confused3

If I were you I would either carry my Passport or get a photo DL, they cost £20 for 10 years @ £2/year worth every penny to me.

Yes wayneg the photo DL is the way to go but now we only have 13 days until we go,the good old British system will probably take too long.Looks like I might need to carry my passport, not ideal.
