what IDs do you bring off the ship with you in the ports (Caribbean)? Do you bring your passport? And if you're doing a beach excursion, where do you put your ID, wallet, etc. while you are in the water? Tia!

To get off the ship, you need your KTTW card. To reboard the ship you need your KTTW card and those cruisers 18 and over also need a photo ID. That can be a driver's license, state ID or passport (book or card).

KTTW cards, as well as driver's licenses, and cash can get wet. My husband puts his in the pocket in his swim trunks. I use a time honored place of concealment for us ladies. :rolleyes1

Some people use waterproof containers on straps around their neck. Others leave items on the shore/in the boat. Sometimes with others in the party watching them.

With the exception of needing them for an emergency, is there any need to carry off passports?
No. In fact, most cruise lines recommend you put your passport in the safe in your room. And use driver's licenses or other such ID to get back on the ship. Except for some ports, where having a passport while ashore is required. Typically not any Caribbean/Mexico/Bahama cruise ports.

All our cruises, we've only been required to take our passport ashore in about 3 ports.

Hi PrincessShmoo! Will we need to take our passport ashore for the Norwegian Fjords? Thanks! Cheers!

If your passport is needed, it will be noted in the Navigator. AND I'm sure the cruise director will announce it at the show the night prior.

They always checked on the way out of the ship to make sure we had our photo-ID. Never once did they check it on the way back on board, but I suppose DCL is just trying to prepare you in case you might be asked for it. For this reason, I felt like DL was sufficient and never took my passport. Except if explicitly required, as stated above.

They don't check the photo ID getting back on the ship. The photo ID is necessary to access most terminals in the various port areas. To confirm you are the name on the ship's card to board the ship.

We leave our passports in the safe. The only place (so far) we were required to take it off ship with us was in Alaska because we took an excursion that crossed into Canada.

We take the waterproof plastic containers with the neck strap for our KTTW and ID.
