ID for alcohol?

Yes you will need an ID. You could have anyone's magic band. They want a picture to prove you say who you are. If you live in the U.S. and have a driver's license that will work, but if you are live outside the U.S. you will be asked for a passport. Foreign driver's licenses aren't allowed as ID.

I managed to ordered a drink at the Wave with my Indonesian driver's license. I had left my passport in my room and I offered to get it but the bartender said my driver's license was good enough.

For next time you can just take a picture of you passport and use that with your drivers licence. I don’t feel comfortable walking around anywhere with my passport. I won’t be able to get home without it! I lock it in the safe at all times when we are there.

I don't drive so the only form of id I have is a passport.

That's OK because non-US residents cannot use a driver's license for ID in Florida. You must use a passport. I have a copy of mine in my phone (in a password protected program) in case I need it but have not yet been asked for it for purchasing alcohol. Technically, everyone is supposed to be carded regardless of how old they look, but that's not what happens in practice. If you look under 30, they will definitely ask you. Sadly, no one thinks I look under 30 anymore.

Is it no longer common sense to carry ID, insurance card, a credit card, and some cash EVERYWHERE???

Sure, it makes sense to have these items available but I don’t think it’s necessary for every person in your party.

Even at home when I go out with DH I will often bring nothing with me (no purse, sometimes even no phone). He has all the items you mentioned so I don’t see the need to carry them as well.

I’ll do the same some days at Disney if we want to go bagless and I don’t have any pockets.
