"Icon" photo at HS?

MK has the castle, EPCOT has the globe, AK has the Tree of Life and HS has . . . . ? OK, not the worst of my problems but where do people now take pics when they enter the park? And WHY did they get rid of sorcerer Mickey's giant hat?

I recall a similar thread months ago. Seems like most of the answers were either in front of the Chinese Theater or with ToT in the background

To me the icon was and always will be the Chinese theater. I hated the hat and was so happy when they dismantled it. If you don’t like the Chinese theater there is always a photographer on Sunset taking pics with Tower of Terror behind you.

The Hat was only supposed to be there for one year, the celebration of Disney 100 years of Magic, it just overstayed it's welcome
The original icons of the park were the Chinese Theater and the Earful Tower.
The Hat did not go with the 1940s and 50s old Hollywood that Hollywood Blvd is trying to convey
Nowadays the icon is the Hollywood Tower Hotel

The Hat was only supposed to be there for one year, the celebration of Disney 100 years of Magic, it just overstayed it's welcome

I had no idea it was temporary. Ijust assumed it went with the sorcerer Mickey / Fantasmic! theme. Thank you for that little bit of trivia. You learn something new every day! (And now I can add to my "temporary" icons photo since I have one in front of Sorcerer Mickey's hat AND the EPCOT globe decked out for the year 2000.)

We use ToT since the hat was brought down. At least until the Millennium Falcon is completed, then that will be the new icon for my family.

For the 25th anniversary of DHS Imagineers gave a talk and I was in attendance, that's when they announced the Hat would be coming down real soon and that announcement was met with thunderous applause. They said that it was never supposed to be up that long

If you look at merchandise (example-Christmas ornaments, shirts), Disney is using the Tower of Terror.

BTW, our photo in 2011 in front of the Sorcerer Hat is still probably my favorite family photo in all of our days at WDW, hence it's been my avatar for quite a while now.

We actually got a few awesome pics at the Chinese theater on our recent trip. With the great movie ride closed the courtyard in front is pretty empty and they were taking pictures there (one fish eyed and one regular)
Also with the Star Wars stage show on its short hiatus one evening they were taking pics up on the platform/stage there. With not a soul behind us and good lighting it is by far my favorite family DHS pic
