Dear xxxx

We are glad you will be joining us aboard the Disney Magic on a 15-night transatlantic voyage.

As you may be aware, we continually monitor a variety of reports including those available from the United States and Canadian Coast Guard that pertain to the ports we visit and the routes we travel. Due to excessive amounts of large pieces of ice off the coast of St. John's, Newfoundland, we will be unable to make our scheduled call at this port. Likewise, because of the distance needed to sail around these conditions, we will be unable to call in Reykjavik, Iceland, as well.

Therefore, we have modified our itinerary by replacing our calls in St. John’s and Reykjavik with calls in Halifax, Canada and Stavanger, Norway. The revised itinerary is below:

Friday, May 15

Port Canaveral, Florida

Saturday, May 16

Day at Sea

Sunday, May 17

Day at Sea

Monday, May 18

New York, New York

Tuesday, May 19

Wednesday, May 20

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Thursday, May 21

Saturday, May 23

Sunday, May 24

Wednesday, May 27

Stavanger, Norway

Thursday, May 28

While we know this change may be disappointing, we hope you understand that the safety and well-being of our Guests and Crew Members is our highest priority. Should you have any questions regarding your cruise vacation, please contact us at 1-866-858-7416 or 407-566-7000.

Any previously pre-reserved Port Adventures for St. John's and Reykjavik have been automatically removed from your stateroom account. Guests wishing to plan for Port Adventures in Halifax and Stavanger may do so once onboard the Disney Magic at the Port Adventures Desk located on Deck 3, Midship.

Again, thank you for sailing with us. We appreciate your understanding and are confident this revised schedule will provide for a safe and entertaining vacation that only Disney can provide.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line

I'm just glad I have a layover planned in Reykjavik. I am sad to miss St Johns and the puffins. Maybe someday :) Looks like the other two ports will be cool too.

This is something that can happen on any cruise. In fact, something similar happened to us in Alaska. There was a huge chunk of ice blocking the entrance to Tracy Arm, so the captain had to get special permission to go up Endicott Arm instead. It was still beautiful, and looked very much like the videos and photos I had seen online of Tracy Arm.

But in this instance it would be disappointing if you had your heart set on Iceland, but another stop in Norway would be awesome. I'd love to be on that cruise, but with a school aged child, it's just not feasible for us to go at that time of year. And I'd kill (well, not really kill) for 6 straight sea days on DCL.

Gutted we're going to be skipping Iceland but Disney haven't done this on purpose, got to keep us safe! I'm sure we'll still have a fab cruise

DCL on the phone confirmed port times:
Halifax 8 AM on board by 5 PM
Stavanger 9:30 AM on board 2:45PM

I'm sad to miss Iceland, but excited about Halifax and especially Stavanger. Not really gonna miss St. John's.

Port Adventure desk will probably be a madhouse on Friday of people trying to rebook excursions

Halifax is definitely better than St. John's. With apologies to a friend who lives near St. John's.

I thought about that too :( I may just plan to walk around these ports on our own, to avoid the chaos :) Looks like we won't be in Stavanger long enough to visit pulpit rock anyway.

I checked the DCL site for excursions, just under general port adventures info since we are now in the window where we can't book or make changes, and they have items up for Stavanger since I guess the Magic will be stopping there later in June anyway. There is a Pulpit Rock hike from what I saw. Nothing at all for Halifax though.

My wife is not happy about the six days at sea in a row.
I was a bit disappointed when the Wonder was diverted around two hurricanes and left us with an 8 at sea days in a row stretch. Still... Had a blast. And the at sea days were a wonderfully relaxing time.

Wow. Better to be safe of course. We were supposed to be on this cruise, but had to cancel for health issues. I would have been very disappointed. We have been to Halifax and Stravanger previously.

We are booked on next year's EBTA, I suppose Sydney could be scrapped. Still, I am glad to be heading for London, not further north.

I saw that too, but it says the excursion is 8.5 hours long and we will only be docked there a little over 5 hours :( I'm sure we will enjoy our time anyway :)

Posted in another thread, but I'm a pilot who works mainly transatlantic flights...this was just northeast of St.john's yesterday...

We are leaving tomorrow for this cruise on Friday. I am disappointed about not going to Iceland but hey, can't mess with mother nature! We have been to Halifax so will probably just walk around on our own. Happy about the other Norway port.
