Ok, I can't believe no one else has asked this question.... Is the Ice free like in the resorts? or do you have to pay for it? and where do they keep it???? I am asking due to we are doing alot of day trips to Universal and the water parks and I want to pack lunch and sodas in my cooler and I need to know if I should add money into my buget for ice....

thanks, and If this is answered somewhere else I am sorry I tryed looking it up before asking:surfweb:

$2 for a pretty good sized bag, available at the comfort stations. Actually the bags they have there for you aren't quite big enough, and we brought small unused trash bags to make sure we got every cube.

(oh, and the laundry rooms at the CS have change machines if you don't have quarters)

So I am guessing you pay $2 and you scope out what you need? or they drop so much ice for $2 in a slot?

You get about a 15lb to 20lb bag. You hold an empty bag or cooler under the chute insert $2 worth of quarters and out dumps your ice.;)

Get a VERY GOOD cooler. The ice at the Fort is made in a machine and is not very hard frozen. The same with the ice at the trading post.

We bought a bag from the machine or the trading post every night. The reason being is by the next night it was all melted. We had the cooler closed tight and under the camper in the shade, but no go.

So a new bag every night, just to have our couple of Kahlua and Creams (with a shot of Amaretto) each night.

So do the cabins have ice trays in the freezer? I hope? :hippie:

maybe i will bring all my old ice trays and freeze my own ice and a few bottles of water..... that should be good enough to keep things cold for a few hours....

The cabins have ice makers in the freezer. The kind that make the cubes into the tray. Housekeeping dumps the old ice out when they clean the freezer before you arrive, so there may not be much ice at first. But once it gets cranking, it's all good.

And . . .

To all you newbies. . .

When buying ice from the machines . . .

Put the empty ice bag under the chute before you push the coin slot in.

Trust me on this.

You will thank me later.

HEY THAT MIGHT JUST BE WORTH THE $2 BUCKS TO WATCH THE KIDS FREAK OUT WHEN IT STARTS GOING ALL OVER THE PLACE...LOL:rotfl2:

TCD - I had the whole 500 loop :rotfl2: so hard that they were crying, when I pushed in my quarters, thinking that a bad would drop, and ICE WENT EVERYWHERE! I was mortified! :scared1:

We were in that beloved site (515) right next to the sidewalk to the comfort station and had made many many friends. Of course I had to pick the busiest time of the day to make a fool out of myself! For the rest of the week I swear everyone that walked by my site snickered!!

Lesson well learned!! :dance3:

Hey, don't feel bad.

It happened to old TCD.

Believe it or not, I was once a newbie, too.

And, way back then, ice was still $2.00 a bag, and that was about double what ice went for at a grocery store.

It was a total shock to me, too, that the ice would come launching out of the machine like it does without warning.

Like an avalanche!

So, I was shocked, and then I was steamed.

Plus, I didn't have any more quarters.

And, I didn't know there were change machines in the laundry room.

But, it never happened to me again. ;)

However, on every trip to the Fort, I often notice a pile of ice under the ice chutes . . .

and I have a good laugh.

Okay if you have the refillable mugs there is a self-serve station with ice for your cups though- right? It only costs if you want a lot of ice like for your cooler, right?

Correct. The soda fountains are the usual with built-in ice dispensers that give out small-ish drink ice.

The machines at the CS dispense the bigger "bag ice" cubes suitable for your cooler... or a really big pitcher of margueritas! ;)
