Hi,

I'm wondering: Do they have Ice Wine? If so, does anyone know where it is? How much it is? And what it tastes like?

Thanks for any help.....

They have ice wine in Palo. I think it was about $7 a glass. They have many brands to choose from. I love it -- it's a sweet dessert wine that comes in different fruity flavors.

I love ice wine. I never saw it in Palo but as others have said, I'm sure they have it. I'd really be interested to know what other brands they had though -- I thought WDW was strictly inniskillin. There are so many other, better, Niagara ice wines though. We actually brought our own bottle when we went to Palo and paid the $15 cork fee. Better $15 for a bottle than $7 for a thimble full.

Do you happen to know how much a bottle of ice wine costs?

I recall they had ice wine on each of the menus (even in the traditional dining rotation) and I seem to recall it was around $9.50 a glass. They had Iniskillin (my favorite) and I know they had an apple ice wine. Ice wine is wine made from frozen grapes. We did a tour in Canada and bought several bottles there, but we also bought a bottle from Canada in Epcot at Le Cellier. It is super sweet - a dessert by itself. Semi-sweet wines have a sugar content of around 5-7% and ice wines have a sugar content of around 22-24%. It is expensive (we paid $78 for the one in Epcot) because of the small amount of juice yielded from each frozen grape. I would recommend buying a glass to see if you like it first before buying an entire bottle.

This was taken from Iniskillin's website:

Grapes are left on the vine well into the winter months. The resulting freezing and thawing of the grapes dehydrates the fruit, and concentrates the sugars, acids, and extracts in the berries, thereby intensifying the flavours and adding complexity to the wine made from it.

Genuine icewine must follow
VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) regulations that prohibit any artificial freezing of grapes. The grapes are painstakingly picked by hand in their natural frozen state, ideally at temperatures of -10 to -13 degrees C -- sometimes the picking must be done at night to take advantage of the temperature. Yields are very low, often as little as 5-10 percent of normal.

The frozen grapes are pressed in the extreme cold. The water in the juice remains frozen as ice crystals, and only a few drops of sweet concentrated juice is obtained. This juice is then fermented very slowly for several months, stopping naturally.

The finished icewine is intensely sweet and flavorful in the initial mouth sensation. The balance is achieved by the acidity, which gives a clean, dry finish. The nose of icewine recalls lychee nuts. The wine tastes of tropical fruits, with shadings of peach nectar and mango.

Icewine is winter's gift to the wine lover: one of the best-kept secrets of the wine world that garners gold medals in virtually every competition in which it is entered.

Enjoy!

I don't remember all the brands. I had the Iniskillin, but they let me "sample" two other ones from Europe. I think they had about six brands coming from Cananda and Europe.

At your local ABC store the inniskillin rep said you should be able to find one of the bottles they were sampling last year at food/wine fest for $19.95 per bottle, yes, a very low price..and the wine was actually very good.

If you like ice wine, you may like moscato (I hope I'm spelling that right). My husband is a big fan of sweet dessert wines. He loves ice wines, and he fell in love with moscato on the ship too. It may be meant for dessert time, but he insists on drinking it with his dinner.

Haha - Depends where you get it! At wine.com, a bottle of Inniskillin Vidal (personally I think Vidal is the great grape for icewine) is like $80, and that's american dollars. At the winery itself it would be like $50 Canadian Dollars. Personally my favorite is the Stonechurch 1991 Vidal but that runs around $100 Canadian a bottle. That's what we brought to Palos though. You can really tell the difference between the 91, 93, 97, and 99. They're *all* good though. You can see what the cost is for most Niagara ice wines here: http://www.icewineniagara.net/ They will ship to the USA but as usual, they're *really* expensive. If you want it cheap, the best bet is ALWAYS to go to the vineyard. Thankfully my parents live in Niagara and that's where I grew up so we always pick up wine when we visit. :)

I think you mean Muscat, Barb. Yep, it's a *great* sipping wine for just relaxing. The Hillebrand Estates Muscat is very very good. http://www.hillebrand.com

Barb -- Sasha (our Palo server) allowed to try the Moscato and we fell in love! We wrote down the info from the bottle (it was a round bottle) -- Trentino Moscato Giallo Gaierhof (not necessarily in that order). We cannot find it locally and online, we can only find it if we buy it by the case. Is there a particular brand Moscato that you and your husband enjoy?

TIA!

I was going through my cruise memories and came across my Pirates in the Caribbean dinner menu -- under Dessert Wines, two wines are listed: Apple Ice Wine $9.50 and Bonny Doon Muscat $8.25.

We had a bottle of Inniskillin Ice Wine on our Disney cruise 6 months ago and I believe it cost around $72. We had a bottle of something else, maybe it was the Moscato, but I don't remember the price for that, maybe around $40, give or take $10.

The Inniskillen was excellent and our server wrapped up our empty bottle and put it back inside the box it came in and told us to take it home as a souvenir. :earboy2:

That would be true ice wine. A lot of places pass off "Apple Wine" or "Winter Wine" as ice wine but it really isn't. If you're unsure, ask.

Do you know if they sell Inniskillen ice wine in Canada in Epcot?!?? I will be thrilled if they do!! :cheer2:

Gosh, I bet Don Ziraldo would love to read this thread. :rotfl2:

I've never seen it for sale, but if it is, it's probably like $100 a bottle. I know you can get it at http://www.wine.com but even there it's around $80 a bottle. At the vineyard store it's usually around $50 CANADIAN dollars a bottle. Shows you the mark-up.

Sounds like you should just take a trip to Niagara and stock up on it. :rotfl: DW and I always stock up when we go to visit my parents. We're running low, though, we only have one bottle of Stonechurch 99 Vidal at home.

If there's that big of a demand, I suppose I could pick you up a bottle and send it to you, if you want. :confused3 I'm actually going over to Canada this afternoon to get some work done on my wife's car and I think Inniskillin is sold at the LCBO. But yeah, if you *really* want a few bottles, PM me and we can see if we can work something out.

Yes, ma'am! Inniskillen is the brand we purchased in Epcot's Canada. Just ask in the restaurant and they will bring you a sample of each of the ice wines they sell for you to choose your favorite.

How much?

:) Not as much as you can get it in Niagara! It was $78...
We became obsessed with ice wine when we took a weekend trip to Niagara - now we have it for every special (and sometimes not so special ;) ) occasion!
