I love Ice Wine (Eiswein) and it is so hard to find. Does anyone know if I will be able to get a glass on the cruise (7 night Magic?).

I can't say for sure but when we did a wine tasting on the Wonder, we got to know the presenter (from a previous cruise). As a special treat to us, she took us in the back after and allowed us to sample an ice wine. It was excellent (and she said VERY expensive). So, there may be a chance...ask (I'm sure you will)!

I don't remember any German dessert wines, but there is a Muscat based Italian wine available at Palo.

You bet! Palo offers Inniskillen by the glass ($16.25 for a generous pour). DH and I shared a glass of that fabulous silken honey after our dinner at Palo last February - it must have taken us 15 minutes, as we savored every drop. :p I can still remember the taste...

YEA!!!! That rocks! I am very excited. Thanks for that info. I was lucky enough to be introduce to this wine back about 15 years ago at a wine connisours home. He pulled out his secret stash and I was only allowed 1 sip! I was in heaven! Then, this past summer on a month long trip to Germany, I had it at my disposal....and dispose of it I did, right down the gullet! It was fairly inexpensive there ($40.00/bottle) but I am still trying to find a supplier here. My friends from Germany said they'd send some, but as of yet, I haven't received any.

I can't wait and am thrilled that I can have some on the cruise. THANKS!

mrsfuzzmo,

If you've been enjoying eisweins you may find the Inniskillin quite different. They are Canadian, from Niagara, and make a different style of wine, perhaps a little fruitier and sweeter, with a little less complexity. As I'm sure you've found, real eiswein costs twice as much in the U.S. as in Germany, so Inniskillin is a delicious substitute, and April and I really, really enjoyed our glass. If you're ever in Ontario, you might pick some up.

I know from experience that the ice wine is offered...every now and then, hubby talks me into allowing him to have it as a special treat.
He ADORES the Muscato too. It is a very sweet dessert wine, but he likes to have it with his meal.

Walt, thanks for the heads up. I will try it and see what kind of differences there are.

I will have to try the Muscato too. I really am not a wine expert or anything, I just Love Eiswein (2nd fav. is Gewurztraminer!) and like to have some on my "Splurgy" vacations!

In case anyone was wondering..... Inniskillin Ice wine was the sponser at the National Pastry Team Competition this past year (2003) in Las Vegas, it is a delicious dessert wine & well worth the cost! Since they were the sponser they were handing out glasses left & right, I'm not sure if the servers are familiar with what the wine goes with but they have specific flavors to go with specific foods, for example when I tried one on it's own it was delicious & then one of the servers told me to try it again, this time with a piece of chocolate--- WOW!!! So ask your server which kind (if they have an assortment) would go with your choice of dessert. I'm so excited to know that they offer it at Palo, & it's even better that you don't see the whole cost of the meal, so if you get a glass your whole bill is $16.95- makes it sound like a deal!!! :teeth:
