Ice-skating bear kills handler

Doesn't the US use live animals in their circuses?

I hate the circus.

I saw the headline on CNN "Ice skating bear kills Russian circus hand" why do people think that doing these sorts of things to wild animals is a good idea?

I think that bears on skates is a stupid idea. We do not go to circuses that use wild animals - bears, tigers, etc. I have issues with elephants in circuses too, although there are parts of the world where they are somewhat domesticated.

Yes, but we're not a 'poorer country' so it's not sad.

:rotfl:

Have you looked at the value of the American dollar lately? :scared1: ;)

Those are animals in Cirque de Soleil??? No wonder they are so flexible. :scratchin

:teeth:

I don't like trained animal shows period.

I went to the Ringling Bros circus last year and really enjoyed it. The elephants are truly the star of the show and very impressive!

Now I will say a bear on ice skates seems ridiculous to me.

We could have gone to the Bear Ice Skating Show, I kid you not. Here goes:

We went to Russia and in the city we visited, there was a huge arena (indoor, obviously) so we asked what kind of shows they had there. Our Russian friend told us they had lots of different types of shows during the year and she starts to rattle off a variety of shows. Then she says, "Right now, they have the Bear Ice Skating Show." WTH?

DH and I thought we had surely misheard, so we asked her to repeat it. She did. The Bear Ice Skating Show. I asked if she meant it was an ice skating show with some bears somehow featured (although I couldn't quite envision that) and she said, "Oh no, it is ALL bears. The bears do all the skating and all the parts. Only bears. Would you like to go?" :scared1:

Needless to say, DH and I took a pass. :sad2: I could not even begin to wrap my brain around that one.

It wasn't long after this that we learned of the existence of........

THE DWARF CIRCUS!!!!!! :lmao:

After that, nothing surprised me. Nothing.

Although it did explain all the little people running in packs.......:teacher:

Doesn't the US use live animals in their circuses?

I was thinking the same thing.:confused3

While it is a tragedy and I avoid circuses like the plague (unless it is cirque du soleil)--the use of animals is used world wide.

I'm actually okay with domesticated animals. I don't get how people can work with lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) for the very reasons....Sigfried and Roy tragedy and now this tragedy. These animals are not domesticated and at any time can turn on their owners.

ETA: I don't even enjoy Sea World. My only show that I see that I enjoy the few times I have gone is Pets Ahoy and those are all domesticated animals, many saved from shelters where they may have been euthanized if not adopted.
