Has anyone ever done the ice cream social at Epcot? We're leaving in a few days and I cant find any info on it besides that its at the Garden Grill in Epcot and its at 3. Weve never been in the GG and I figure that this might be a good chance to check it out.

We've done this twice. It is really nice. The characters come around to your table. The ice cream is really good! There is a kids version with ice cream, cone and gummy worms. The adult version is huge! We were not rushed and actually saw all the characters twice each time.::yes::

Thanks for all the info--I think that the day we go to Epcot, if we are in the Land area around 3 o'clock Ill see if we can get in.I'm not too crazy about ice cream, but maybe the rest of the family might want an ic break around then. It might be a nice surprice.

When we were there in October of last year, Mickey, Chip and Dale and I do believe Goofy (I think) was there. We had a blast. We also saw every character twice and the ice cream sundae was to die for :teeth:

I believe it was PLUTO, not Goofy. I made that mistake  and was "scolded" by Pluto. After that he paid more attention to my DW and to me. :( I think he finally "forgave" me before he took off to greet someone else. :)

I don't know if you HAVE to make them, but I did yesterday when I tried to get another ps. This is for Oct 31, and I got in, so it must not be real popular

The ice cream is yummy. We were there on Sept. 29th. It was us and 2 other tables. The characters were bored stiff. Spent a lot of time with us. Then, just goofed around. It was Mickey, Chip, Dale, and Pluto. Well worth it! ::MinnieMo

I read about this in Parent's magazine. I thought this was a wonderful idea to meet the characters, especially for families on a budget. ::MickeyMo Plus my family loves ice cream!:p How long does it last? Hopefully it will not be crowded :crowded: ,so the kids will have more time to mingle w/the characters!!:teeth:

Glad to hear more about this. We have booked the social for December. I was not sure if it would match up to a character meal, but it sounds great so far.

We all scream for ice cream... :chat:

We have done the ice cream social twice now and love it. Here are a couple of tips that I learned.

If you are trying to cust costs... ask for water to drink with the ice cream instead of purchasing pop (sodas). We always get water. The kids water also comes in the cutest cups that we always bring back home with us. The kids love using them at home.

Also, ask to be seated in the upper level of the restaurant. You get to sit at a regular table and can see everthing that is going on. We sat in the lower level at a booth this past September. The back of the booth seamed really high and you couldn't see much of anything except what was happening right at your table or a little bit to each side. It was much more fun to watch the characters interact with the other families besides our own.

The characters were Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale. The characters usually visit twice and alot of times more than that.

The social seems like it is a quiet little secret out there. It has never been crowded during each visit and things were never rushed.

It is a must have for our family for each visit.

Enjoy,
Beth

I second that. It was our best and cheapest charater interaction. Each one came to the table 2 or 3 times as the place was maybe 1/3 full (it was a holiday week, FYI). Mickey actual sat at our table and spoon feed my 8 year old as she thought she was finished and Mickey had other things in mind.

A terrific experience!!!

Enjoy

Another big thumbs up for the Social! We did it in Aug. and had a wonderful time! The characters were great, the ice cream was to die for and the kids had a blast!:wave2:

We also did the Ice Cream Social, and I planned it for our first day there. It was unrushed, and fun. The way the revolving booths are set up, you don't see the characters until they're right there in front of you. We loved it. One minute we're enjoying our ice cream brought to us by a funny server who kept singing "ee ii ee ii oo", and then all of a sudden Pluto is there! And then farmer Mickey! The booths make it so private, where there's only your family and the character. You can't see what's going on in the booths near you. It was an inexpensive big thirll for us.

It sure is one of the best kept secrets at WDW. I read these boards before our last trip, but somehow missed reading about the ice cream social until we got back home. It turns out we bought ice cream down in the food court below the GG while waiting for our FP for the ride--at about 3pm ! If we had only known..... Next year for sure!

We do the Ice Cream Social everytime we go. It's a great pick-me-up in the afternoon and for the three of us it's about the same price as one character meal. The characters are alot of fun especially Chip & Dale who really enjoy playing. And the more YOU interact with the characters, the more they will interact back with you. It is very laid-back and we have never felt rushed. We have stayed as long as we needed to enjoy our ice cream and make at least ONE rotation around! (The Garden Grill rotates allowing for views of the Land boat ride.) I always call for a PS, but the last time we went (April) I was told every day that I called that there were none available. So the morning we arrived at Epcot, we went into the Land Pavillion at about 10:30am and got a PS directly from the Garden Grill for that afternoon.

Also, if it is near your wedding anniversary, ask about the "Re-hitching Ceremony" which can be done at the Ice Cream Social and really makes for a special afternoon!:D

We just got back and we did the Ice Cream Social this time. It was a lot of fun. The characters were great and it wasn't very crowded. With the heat and humidity on sunday being inside in the late afternoon and having ice cream and something to drink was great. There wasn't a ReHitching ceremony which disappointed me because I wanted to see one but there were several birthdays. We got to see the characters twice and Chip even danced for us. The sunflowers look really great in the background in our pictures.
