Ice cream, frozen yogurt or Italian ices?

Which is your treat of choice?


Lately we've been hanging at the Italian ices stand. I love my cherry ices.

On really hot days, I love Italian ices.

Shaved ice! It's a bit diff than Italian Ice, I think... LOVE IT!

Mmmmmm...when I lived in PA I used to eat Italian ices (cherry & bubblegum!) all the time! I don't think I've ever seen them where I live in GA, though. There's nothing like an Italian ice on a really hot, sunny day. I will say, though, that the cruise ship I was on two weeks ago had a self-serve soft ice cream machine on the pool deck, and I was certaily happy with that! I gained seven pounds!

Is an Italian ice the same thing as a New Orleans Sno-Ball?

Which is not to be confused with a snow cone (more granular coarse ice). A Snow Ball is very, very, very finely shaved iced with a syrup poured over it. For some of the flavors like Dreamsicle they also would add condensed sweetened milk in addition to the orange syrup. It really is the texture of snow and they come in a million flavors.

I think the Sno-balls originated in the Italian neighborhoods of New Orleans so that's why I was wondering if it was the same thing.

I love Gelato! Any flavor!

Italian Ice's were called "Water Ice" when we lived in Philly, so I still call them that! We had a guy in our neighborhood that would sell them from his truck, cherry water ice and a soft pretzel! I used to make a lunch out of it on occasion!

I am addicted to ice cream.. CHOCOLATE of course!!! and I am very proud to say that I have passed that along to my children too... An ice cream a day makes us very happy..
