My mother and I just got back from seeing ICE. I don’t know why but I thought that the Gaylord Palms was the only Gaylord resort that did ICE. Boy was I surprised when I accompanied my mom for her company Christmas party this weekend at the National Harbor in Maryland that the Gaylord resort there was having it too. We found out about it when we checked in to the Aloft hotel that the company put us up in for the party. They had a Harbor Holidays 2010 Holiday Guide they gave you when you checked in and they had an ad in the book.

They have a nice shopping area there on the harbor with plenty of shops for everyone. They even had a Marshmallow Peeps store that sold all kinds of candy and merchandise from Peeps to Hot Tomalas. I got a cute shirt for DS that says Chicks love Me with a Marshmallow Peep for the chick.

My mom’s Christmas party was ok. It was a company party what can you say. The next morning we got up early so we could head over to the Gaylord. I was hoping that the resort still had openings for the Breakfast with the Grinch. I was surprised that they had that there too but sadly they were not allowed to take walk ups. So we grabbed some breakfast items from their grab and go and a Gaylord Christmas Guide and sat in their indoor garden which had Dr. Seuss Sculptures from the books which we enjoyed while we ate. They have a lot of things going on at the Gaylord in addition to ICE being there.

The ticket window at ICE opened at 9:00am so we headed over a little before and found a small line waiting outside of the big white tent holding ICE. Once they opened the line went very quick as most people were just picking up their tickets they had purchased online. I had checked online the night before to see if they still had availability and they did for the morning until 10am but later in the day they were booked up. So we had no problem getting a ticket that morning. My mom even got to use here military ID to get a discount making it $24 each instead of $29. There was of course no line to get into the start of the atttraction since it was so early. I was surprised how many people just raced right thru "The Art of Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibit" and "From Harbin to Who-ville Exhibit" part of the attraction just to get right to the ICE part. There was so many nice pictures and info that we took our time and enjoyed it. We made it to where they gave you the jackets and you don’t have to tell them a size they already have it picked out and waiting for you as you make your way around the corner. We stopped and got the picture you can take wearing your blue coats. They have you stand in front of a green screen and add in the backround for the picture later. The picture came to $14.99. Not bad and since I didn’t plan on doing anything like this I left my camera home. So I definitely bought the picture.

We had a lot of fun but boy they aren’t kidding that it is COLD in there. You can take as long as you want touring as long as you can take the cold. We had our own coats on under the coats they gave you and even had our gloves on and by the time we where done we were freezing. I hope they give you warmer coats at the Palm then they did here cause if they don’t you’ll be freezing in no time. Oh I forgot to add I got to do the slide. So much fun. They make sure you are sitting on the blue coat when you go down cause the ice is really cold on your bottom. Boy does that slide go fast and then you hit the carpet at the bottom and you stop really quick. Thought I was going to flip head over heals the stop was so quick. I really enjoyed ICE and recommend that if you ever considered going to the Gaylord palm in Florida to see ICE but haven’t had the opportunity to do it you should really try and see it at the Gaylord National as it maybe alot closer then traveling down to florida for many of you. It took my mom and I a little over 3 hours to get there from NJ (near Philadelphia). I’m already considering a trip next year with DH and DS. We are considering on getting one of their packages. We’d do it this year but it looks like from looking online that a lot of the activites are aleady booked up for the month.

So here is some info for those interested.

Thanks for the review! I would love to take my girls there this week. It looks like so much fun!

We were there this weekend, too! Had a fabulous time! We were got there around 9:00 am Sunday (tickets were for 10:30) and there were no waits at all. By time we left the area (1:30pm), it was getting really busy - the parking deck was crazy!

I was very impressed with the exhibit. You go through thinking, "I can't believe this is all made of ice!!"

We wanted to walk around the National Harbor area and shop, but it was so flippin' cold outside. I was more comfortable in ICE! than walking down the street. We did go to Ketchup for lunch. It was OK; expensive, nothing to write home about.

We'll definitely be going back to ICE! next year!!

Does anyone know if any place at the national harbor hold any good events over the summer that we can take DS to?

They usually have summer concerts on the waterfront there. Depending on the group if might be good for kids....

Did you happen to check out if there has been any progress at the Disney site there? I've been meaning to go by and take a look...

I saw a sign saying national harbor welcomes Disney but didn't see a disney store open anywhere or where it was going to be.

It's not a store but a resort that Disney is going to build. Last I knew, they hadn't broken ground yet.

As for ICE @ Natl Harbor - we weren't that impressed last year. I was debating going this year, but in the end threw out the $4 off coupons we had and decided not to go. We thought it was only okay. Amazing sculptures, no doubt, but once - or once every few years or so - would be enough for us.

I had no idea. Is there somewhere I can find more info on it?

Google Disney National Harbor Resort and you will find a number of articles from the Washington Post - I haven't heard much about it for over a year, though.

Yeah it's been a long time since any info has come out about it... I thought that they had a planned opening in 2012... They better get a move on it!
