So I've had this chronic back ache, and after 10 years I finally went to the doctor ( ). He gave me an RX for 21 muscle relaxers--once a day at bedtime. That was the most heavenly 3 weeks ever! So now I don't want to go back to the doctor and ask for more. I feel like I'll look like I'm strung out! So I went to the pharmacy and asked about an OTC alternative, and she said taking 4 ibuprofen would be the same as RX strength pain releiver or anti-inflamatory, or whatever. So I did that, and it worked pretty good (not as well as those lovely little muscle relaxers! :bitelip: ) So my question is, is it OK to take 4 ibuprofen semi-regularly? Maybe 2 or three times a week?

I wouldn't do it without discussing it with my doctor.

But I have buprofened!

I would discuss it with your doctor since ibuprofen can affect your stomach and kidneys--you want to make sure you don't have any pre-existing problems that might be aggravated by it.

But if muscle relaxers helped, I would consider massage therapy or acupuncture as well (especially if you enjoyed that warm fuzzy relaxing feeling you got from the muscle relaxers--you can get that from body work, too!).

I regularly take 4 Advil at a time. It has the potential to upset your stomach, obviously. For some reason, it's not as potent at the Motrin 800s to me, but it usually does the trick in a pinch.

I wouldn't do it multiple times a day unless your doctor tells you to, but I take that dose 3-4 times a week, but not more than 1 time per day for the aforementioned stomach reasons. :)

If it's a chronic condition, you might want to treat it instead of just relieving the pain. That would be ideal, of course. :)

Yeah, that would be awesome. But doctor and physical therapy guy couldn't find anything fo fix. Really burst my bubble! I thought just maybe they'd find something and make it go away! I guess I'll suck it up and go back to the doctor and say "what now".

I didn't experience any warm fuzzies since I always took them at bed time. I did feel pretty euphoric, though, when I'd wake up and get through the day with no pain at all! That rocked! maybe I'll look into the massage therapy.
