Iberia Air

We flew Iberia from Madrid to Malaga and back again. It was a few years ago and everything went fine. No complaints.

I had an unpleasant experience with Iberia back in 2018. We flew Barcelona-Madrid-London, due to a ground delay on the first flight their system automatically booted us from the second even though we made it to the gate in time. The gate agent was kind enough to re-add us, but then told us "your original seats have been taken (they hadn't been) so just find an empty one". I'm a FA, so being told to pick a random seat and therefore not be manifested properly did bother me. The other thing I raised my eyebrows at was when a smoke alarm started blaring from one of the lavatories during taxi out, and when the FA couldn't get it to stop she placed her jacket over it to muffle the sound...

That seems to be the norm according to the complaints online. Many people were mad that they didn’t get a refund due to a cancellation. EU rules are much more strict about cancellations and have protections for passengers that Iberia did not adhere to. My flight would be Barcelona to Rome so no connecting flight needed.

Iberia is a "unit" of International Airline Group (IAG)... so joined to the hip with British Airways. It is the same group that owns Vueling, a low cost offshoot of Iberia. Because of the relationship between all these airlines, double check to see who is the actual operating carrier. I have flown Vueling in the past (booked as an Iberia flight) and British Airways and for short-haul flights, I found them to be OK given the fairly low price paid. If your flights is out of Barcelona, odds are it is actually operated by Vueling.
