IAMS Dry??

...but overall, they are a "terrorist" organization that turns more people off from their message than draws supporters.

Absolutely. They picket our AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) meetings and we have been told to not wear our ID badges outside of the conference hotel. It's my understanding that the Department of Homeland Security monitors their attendance at these meetings. In my opinion, The DHS has WAY more important things to do than watch these people.

No problems with Iams dry for our girls and Iams has been sending me email updates every few days in regards to the recall. I love their communication efforts in regard to this problem.

I looked at the PETA website. What they are promoting is vegan diets for dogs and cats. Canids and felines are CARNIVORES. *shakes head*

The website is about a whole lot more than that *shakes head*. It seems you focused on one or two sentences:rolleyes1 in an effort to turn others from reading it. There is alot of information that opened my eyes to pet food issues on that site. Now if someone, anyone, could disprove the statements made against Iams I would be very happy. I would rather this stuff be false, trust me. I would not feed my pets a vegan diet either, but that is not really what the site is about- take another, better, look.

Well, I don't want to frighten anybody nor do I want to get into a pissing contest over PETA's motives, but the FDA has just said there is a problem with dry dog food also. They have confirmed melamine is in the food, although they are NOT saying which. Gives me a warm feeling.

Btw, there are reports that some of this contamination may've made it's way into our food supply also. It's a breaking story.

Veterinarians are very well versed on PETA, trust me. I was only simplifying the website by giving one example of the outlandish stuff they dish.
Personally, I was in school (vet students are cheap labor to care for the animals) while Eukanuba (owned by Iams) was doing a study on growth of large breed dogs (which later became their Large Breed Puppy formula). The dogs were kept in good conditions, many adopted out afterwards, were well fed, and given monthly heartworm/flea medication. None of which you will ever hear about from PETA.
Research is very easy to spin and often produces a knee-jerk "Bad" reaction. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but these dogs are monitored very carefully... from the University guidelines to the USDA. I see way more abuse/neglect in my daily practice than will ever happen in a research laboratory. I will guarantee you that.

WHAT??? How can they NOT name the company?!?!

In a news conference, FDA officials said that the apparently melamine-contaminated wheat gluten also was shipped to a company that manufactures dry pet food, but they would not name the company.

That's what I thought when I read the story. I really have a bad feeling about this and I think it will be very widespread when all is said and done.

I just checked my bags of Iams Indoor Cat (hairball and weight control) and Eukanuba Large Breed Adult food. No wheat gluten in either. Whew!
*kisses my fluffies*

I use dry IAMS for both the dog and the cat and they both seem as nutty and healthy as ever:)

Just like their mother (the nutty part, that is). ;) I feed my kitty IAMS dry as well, and have had no problems. The pooch gets prescription Science Diet, 'cause she's got all sorts of issues.

Just like her daddy (the issue part, that is ;) )

Right now I'm glad that we are feeding brands that were not on the original canned list, so are most likely not included in any recall of dry products either.

I too am saddened by the number of health problems to beloved family members this has caused...but the bright side (if there is one) is that we are all getting an education in pet food quality!:thumbsup2
