I don't want to re-hash this but has anyone had a problem with feeding their kitty IAMS dry? I changed my girl's food gradually this past week from IAMS dry to Nature's Balance because I couldn't trust IAMS anymore.

She seems fine but now PETA is demanding a recall on the dry food also.

I called my vet's office. They said that they have not had any instance where a cat was sick from the dry food and that the instances where an animal did become sick from the wet, they got sick very quickly.:sad1:

My question is has anyone heard of any documented case of an animal becoming sick from the IAMS dry food?

TIA

Scary, isn't it? I feed my cats IAMS dry, and we have had no problems.

I feed mine IAMS dry too and have not had a problem.

I've been using the Iams Dry Multi cat for a while with no problems, but I'm going to start mixing in Wellness and go totally to that. My friend is a vet tech and she says her office is recommending folks go with premium foods if at all possible. Since those foods have less filler added, they are better for the animals and hopefully the chance of contamination of this type is reduced.

I use dry IAMS for both the dog and the cat and they both seem as nutty and healthy as ever:)

Why does PETA want a recall on the dry??

My cats get the dry IAMS, they are 9 and 7 with no health issues. They were getting 1 or 2 pouches of the wet which I started a few months ago because the vet insisted I had to give them wet food. Well, no more wet for them no matter what the vet says.

Another IAMS dry user & we haven't had any problems. I still have a case of the wet food that I'm holding off on using even though it didn't fall under the recalled data. Haven't decided what I'm going to do with it.

My 5 year old cat threw up her toenails about a week ago and absolutely refused to eat anymore of the Iam hairball care dry food we'd been feeding her and our younger cat. The one who got sick slept for a couple of days and absolutely would not eat anything except the Whisker Lickin's dry treats we feed them. The younger cat was perfectly fine all through this.

We got the regular Iams, the triangle shaped kibble and now my sweet ball of fluff is eating again.

I did some research when the recall first came out and settled on Nature's Balance. I know that contamination can happen with any mfg but it seems like a good product. My sweetie seems to like it and since this will be the first day for strictly the Nature's Balance, we'll see how it acts with her "digestive tract". I feel so badly for the owners that have lost pets due to this episode. I would be heartbroken if something happened to our girl especially since I would feel like I did something wrong by choosing her food.

I hope that this never happens again.

Why does PETA want a recall on the dry??

I guess they are saying that some pet owners are reporting that their animals became sick while eating the dry food also. They are demanding that the recall include the dry food until it can be sorted out.

I tried to mix the IAMS hairball care with original IAMS, and my cats picked around the new stuff and refused to eat it. That is why I am reluctant to switch their food.

My brat is pretty good about food. She won't eat any table food except for 1 type of tomato sauce:lmao: but she is not choosy about anything else.....she has been known to eat the lint off the rug on occasion.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I realized I should tell a little more for clarity.

My cats have eaten the hairball formula many times before with no problems. This last bag we bought, just before the pet food recall happened. When I wrote "she threw up her toenails", I meant she vomited a HUGE amount.

Why does PETA want a recall on the dry??

The only reason PETA is involved is for the media attention and a personal vendetta, it's not for the animals. They hate Iams partly because it is owned by Proctor and Gamble, which manufactures health care products.

Truthfully, if nothing else, this has raised the awareness of the lack of oversight for mfg of pet foods. I'm not a big fan of PETA but maybe they know something the general public doesn't?:confused3 :confused3

I feed my cats Nutro Naturals dry food (wet version is on recall list) and there have been no problems. I would not worry about it. PETA is to animal rights groups as bible thumpers are to Christians- they just make everyone look bad. Iams has been pegged as a cruel company for years though- I still would not buy it. I have not personally researched the facts on this site because I have never used Iams, but it is interesting to check out and decide for yourself. This site is sponsored by PETA so please do not take at face value- they are known for hyperbole.

I was feeding Iams dry to my dogs, the puppy formula and mini chunks adult. Both had vomiting and diarrhea. I took them off of it and put them on Natural Balance, but the puppy doesn't like it. So, I'm off to get some Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul for her. I did an immediate switch off Iams, but now that the vomiting, etc. has stopped, I will do a gradual switch to Chicken Soup.

We had blood work run for both dogs, and their levels were fine. So, they weren't in renal failure, but something in their food was making them ill. Better safe than sorry, so I am off of Iams for a good while.

Actually, the pet food recall has been reported on almost every media outlet, regardless of PETA's most recent involvement. Next thing, they will be using this to ask for donations to 'defeat' Iams.
I'm a veterinarian and have fed my babies Iams/Eukanuba for over 15 years and will continue to do so. (And, btw... I pay full price at a large retail pet store.)

As for PETA's credibility, check out www.petakillsanimals.com
I don't take anything they say at face value.

I looked at the PETA website. What they are promoting is vegan diets for dogs and cats. Canids and felines are CARNIVORES. *shakes head*

I do not mean to imply that I know more than you or anyone else regarding the recall. I meant that the whole recall tragedy etc raised public awareness on food mfg as an industry. I think PETA has some valid points but overall, they are a "terrorist" organization that turns more people off from their message than draws supporters. (Did that even make sense?:scared:)

As far as IAMS, I did not read the site that PETA linked to IAMS. I don't really want to know. There are lots of things that I don't like going on in this world, some things I'd just rather not read about.

All I know is that is stinks to have to worry about feeding your pet a food that could be killing them and not know about it until it is too late. My kitty is our baby and I would be heartbroken of anything happened to her.

I know, a lot of people think "Get a life" but she is such a big part of our family.princess:
