I77 or I75 from Toronto

It completely depends what you are driving and which route you take. We know that our total for the whole trip will be approximatley 5000 km. We know that our car gets approximately 700 highway km per tank and that it costs us about $38 to fill our tank in the states. If you do the math it will cost us about 275 dollars for gas give or take. We don't usually stop along the way as we drive straight thru. If you pick up the "Along the I-75" by Dave Hunter it will tell you where the best lodgings are. Once you get to Florida there are literally thousands of hotels so you will be able to find anything within your budget.

Happy Travels!!! :moped:

I completely understand it depends on what you drive and your speed etc as I mentioned in my post but I simply wanted some real world experiences - so your $275 example is great. :goodvibes

Also what people paid for a hotel and mentioning the hotel chain would be great.

Thanks for any replies :)

We just returned from the I77 drive on Saturday night.

We left at 5pm from Hamilton and arrived in Daytona at 1pm the next day.

We drove straight through with only quick stops for washroom and food breaks. If we did not stop for breakfast we would of made it an hour earlier.

The only caution I will tell people is that if you are driving at night, there are many deer sightings near the road so use caution. I had no idea of this because the stretch I slept and my husband drove, this was the time he spotted all the deer on the road.

Because of this on the return home we stretched our drive over 2 days and drove 12 hrs one day and 9 the next.

Our hotel was $74.00 per night and included a buffet breakfast. We stayed at a Country Inn which was nice for a quick nights rest.

You can get hotel rooms for anywhere from around $50.00+ with the coupon book you pick up at the tourist info areas.

We have never done the I-75 route but may try next year.

Disney Fanatic - what kind of car did you drive and how much did it cost you in gas.

Thanks a lot

We have also driven both ways many times. I never cross over in Windsor though regardless of which road I am taken. We always cross at Fort Erie. I prefer the 77/79/95 route for the shorter time and scenery, but will only take 75 in winter because of bad weather conditions.

Last trip we took 75 and in total we spent about $400 CDN in our Montana mini van. This is gas there and back and touring around for 10 days. We also drive to the parks and eat off-site a fair bit.

After you get to Fort Erie in Pennsylvania ( you go West when you cross over into the states near Niagara Fallson I-90 you head south on on I-79then to I77 - It seems like extra time to get to the I75 from there.

I was surprised to see this post as I had posted this last year on our first drive down. We just returned last Sunday from our 3rd drive down to Orlando taking the "scenic" route. No problems with the weather or the deer - we saw goats at the side of the road - but that was it.

There was actually much more fog in the mountains when we went in August last year.

We'll be going again in December 2006 and hope to drive down again.

************* - HI - how ironic you responded to my post - hope all is well

We had driven 3 times via I-75, we are planning to drive down again this August, leaving Markham at 4 am Thursday morning to beat the Toronto traffic. I pick 4 am because I usually leave home for work at that time.

Since driving I-75 takes 24 hours, we should arrive at 4 am Friday morning, taking the other route shaves about 2 hours off, and we will arrive 2 am in the morning. When we book hotel, should we book check in Thursday or Friday? :rolleyes1 On the other had, we can drive slowly and take extra long breaks to stretch out the drive and hit the parks when they open at 9 instead. :woohoo:
