I witnessed a horrific event tonight...UPDATE PG 4

Wow, so sorry you had to see that! If it's any consolation at all, we had a similar incident here at the beach over the summer. Some kids had rented a beach house for prom night, were all out on the deck taking photos before they left for the dance, and the same exact thing happened to them as well. The were taken to the hospital, but still went to the prom. It did, however, get the building codes for upper level decks changed around here, so at least something good came of it. :grouphug: to you, and I hope you got some sleep last night.

I got a little bit of sleep last night. I had to keep telling myself that everyone was fine, there no major injuries, and that all was well. After about an hour I finally fell asleep. But woke up at 4 and even with my eyes open I was hearing the sound the deck made as i crashed to the ground. I couldn't get that out of head and I laid there again chanting to myself that no one was hurt.

This morning's news doesn't have any new details, except that everyone is okay. They said inspectors would be out there to investigate today.

My son was watching the news this morning and got excited when he saw mommy on the news! He thought that was pretty cool...all I could think was that I was glad I had lost 20 pounds because that 20 pounds added by the camera would have made me really look like a cow!! :rotfl:

DisneyPhD....Sandbridge is on the opposite end from 73 street. If you have ever been to OBX it looks like Hwy 12. When the rain cleared we could see all the way to the ocean front.

Oh my goodness, I can't imagine how terrible that was to see. I'm glad to see in other posts that no injuries were life threatening, but still....it's sad. The same thing happened a couple years ago not far from here, but it wasn't near any water, just the city.

I hope you were able to rest last night.

That must have been so scary for you. I heard about this accident on our local news station this morning when it reported news from around the country. :grouphug:

That must have been terrifying to witness. I do hope everyone recovers soon.

OMGoodness! I know where that is, too, and I saw you on the news!

I have a feeling that there were too many people on the deck as I've heard about several incidences in the past in our area and the Carolinas. How scary!

It's good you called... :grouphug:

Tara, they showed that on the morning news here in S. Jersey. Oh what a terrible thing for you to have to go through. :grouphug:

:grouphug: that must have been sooo scary-
the end result could have been SO MUCH worse!
glad noone was killed...

hopefully this morning you feel better - I can only imagine how you feel!

(#1 reason to make sure you hire a professional and make sure to the permits - it isn't the governement after $ - they are making sure you are safe!))

:grouphug: How horrible. Thoughts and prayers for all involved, I can't imagine how you must feel let alone those that actually experienced it.

Tara,
 What a night, huh? :guilty:

I am so proud of you for having the presence of mind to grab your cell phone and call 911 !

OK I know right where that is since we take hwy 12 to get to Ocracoke every time. It is near the Marine musuem right?

I was thinking about this and often witnessing events like this cause a short term post trumatic stress. The best thing to do is processes fully and talk over well with others who will listen. Even better, with others who were there. Go back to the house and see the rebuilding, if possible find out who was there and talk to some of the vic, seeing that they are better.

Good luck, glad you could share your feelings with us and help process it more.

I am so sorry you had to witness that but good thing you had your cell phone with you and the presence of mind to call. I hope that you get a chance to take a nap today. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

That is horrible. I hope all those people are okay.

How horrible for you to have to witness this! I just wanted to add that my husband is a 911/Communicator for our local police. They have to ask all those questions, however as you are talking they are typing and it gets sent to dispatch, where the dispatcher is then talking to the police cars. I know it's frustrating, however, they are doing their jobs.

This same thing happened on the 2nd episode of ER this season, so I can just imagine what it was like to be seeing it live :grouphug:

I saw it on the Today show this morning. That was weird seeing it on the national news.

cabmom...I know they have to ask those questions and i just kept answering them, trying my best not get upset. I could hear the woman typing and I knew they were doing their job. I've just never been in a situation like that before.

I'm not sure how many people called 911, but I know there were at least three of us.

I know that you feel awful right now but it was so fortunate that you were right there and called 911 so quickly. It's such a blessing that no one was killed or badly hurt!

I just saw it on Headline News. Hugs to you for your pain!
