We knew we were going to take two trips this year (our cruise in May) and then one more. But what to book? Hubby wanted to go see friends in Rhode Island (Nice but I want more). He initially balked when I suggested Disney - we have been there the last two Christmases. Yes that is true I said but both those times have been over crowded, over loaded and over done. I want quiet and time to enjoy. :rolleyes1

Kept addressing the issue and he finally agreed. Yipee!!! Now the big issue - When? Work is way to busy till the middle of October and even if I took time off I would be stressed thinking about it. First week of November is out. The boss is going and taking his two kids for the first time. (He has been having me help him plan it out since I am his assistant and know alot about Disney). I look around Mid November and I start to read that it is not too crowded that time of year (park hours look decent). Now the big issue when to leave/return. Hubby works the midnight shift and sleeps during the day. He suggests going to work early the night before we go and he can sleep and we take an afternoon flight. :cheer2: Great thinking.

I look and figure out if we leave on Friday, Nov 14th and come back on Tuesday the 18th that gives us three full days there after arriving Friday night and hubby getting the rest of the sleep he needs. Plus it only costs him two days vacation and leaves him two to take at Christmas. Look at airfare and it is doable (even more doable since we had discount coupons from Continental from our messed up flight two years ago on Christmas day - Did you know planes have batteries that die if you don't shut them down - replacing them takes 3 hours and makes you very late to your destination (Disney/Fort Lauderdale Trip Christmas 2006:santa: ).

Hotels do we want cheap AS Movies (I love the statues) or moderate Port Orleans? (No CBR - been there done that - not impressed). I keep searching for two people (thinking two parents not the 20 year old kid - but then we have the other worry - what will happen in the house when we are gone :scared: The last two Christmases were budget busters by staying at BC. Ask DD and she surprisingly says yes (OK I admit I am happy - she is as much a Disneyaholic as I am). She will take and miss two days of class (I even suggested if she wanted she could return home one day early and not miss the one day when she has three classes - she said no she was good). Now we have our cast of characters (me - 42 (will be 43 when we go), DH -41 and DD - 20).

Where to stay - DD looks and says what about POFQ and I look and say ok - I love the south and New Orleans. We have already stayed at Riverside when it was Dixie Landings for DD's first trip ever to the World when she was five (yikes that was 15 years ago :scared1: ). Call up and get AAA rate (cool save over $110 bucks for the four nights over regular rate). Now the tough part waiting for hubby to get the time approved to take off of work and get the dog into boarding - no boarding no vacation. What a long wait till that was approved (Actually it was less than 24 hours but with hubby's work it is surprising that his boss said yes almost right away - he doesn't like to answer email sometimes.).

Now that we got approval it was time to buy the airfare. Hubby is actually going to switch his shift for the last night before we go so I got an even earlier flight to Orlando. Got it using our coupons at the discounted rate. Our air cost less than the hotel will.

After looking at the park hours and menus it was time to figure out what to do for ADR. Our trip Christmas 2006 :santa: was so last minute (less than two wekes from first thought to departure date) that we had no ADR except I somehow managed to get Hoop Dee Doo the first night :woohoo: . What a nightmare waiting for dinner the next few nights. Christmas 2007 :santa: was different - we had our ADR in hand less than a week after booking. Dinner was sooo much better.

DD wants a nice family meal. I want meals that put us in parks for Extra Magic Hours. Thanks to these wonderful boards I found out info on The Wave :surfweb: at the Contemporary. After getting DD's approval for that and Mama Melrose I call up to get the ADR. The third choice was the Plaza at Magic Kingdom for our last night since that was Magic Kingdom's EMH night. I had called and gotten the Plaza reservation when we were still discussing the other reservations.

The wonderful cast member I spoke to this morning books The Wave for Saturday at 5:30 perfect so then we get on the monorail and head to Epcot for the night. While she is looking at Mama Melrose for Sunday she starts to ask me if we were interested in Mickeys Very Magic Christmas Party. I have to admit I heard of it but never really thought about it. After getting the details and finding out that is why the park was closing at 7 on Sunday I made the decision and booked it. :dance3: The lady switched my Plaza reservation from Monday to Sunday and I got Mama Melrose for Monday night. Wahooooooooo. Now I got all my ADR and a Mickey Party. I was dancing around the house this morning. :cloud9:

Told Hubby and DD about it and they were very happy. We have never done the Party, we are eating at a new restaurant and another that Hubby and I have only had lunch at before (Mama Melrose). Awesome!!!!!!!! This is why I love my daughter being older and being able to enjoy things like this with her. She has been raised a Disney baby from the day she was born. Right from having Baby Mickey and Minnie bedding to having wall stickers of them all over her room. Her first trip at age 5 (she still looks at the photo album we made her to remember the trip by) to the number of trips we have made in recent years since we have had family move to south Florida (Honest it is cheaper to fly out of Orlando after spending a few days at the World than flying out of WPB or FLL). :rolleyes1

Now I have two months to plan and and plan and figure out all the little details. pirate:

great job so far!!! I'm so excited for you!!
It's still too complicated for Santa to figure out how to handle a Xmas trip...but it will happen eventually:)

I hope that you LOVE the party!! We did the P&PP in Feb..it was GREAT! I'm doing the MNSSHP (thanks to DH for getting me the tix) solo in October..and am really looking forward to it!

After that I'll have no choice but to plan a December trip for MVMCP:rolleyes1 I'd hate to be incomplete!!LOL!!!

Paula the crowds at Xmas are outrageous. Fast passes gone by 10:30 am. lines out the door. I have been when it is crowded but it gets oppresive then. We were actually up and at two parks last year for the gate opening. We even left and went to the hotel to relax there to get away from the crowds. What was the best thing was going into Epcot when the opened the World Showcase from the International Gateway and being almost halfway around the park from the crowds. We really got to relax and enjoy the time there before meeting the masses.

I am so happy to have the MVMCP planned so I feel more Disney complete.

It is a budget buster but the true Disneyaholic needs to splurge for the Backstage Magic tour. It is $200 and 7 hours but what you learn and see will stay with you forever. :cheer2: It is so secretive that you are not allowed to take a camera. We were in the tunnel system under the Magic Kingdom, behind the audioanimatronics in the American Pavillion at Epcot and that was only the beginning.

My biggest thing is convincing myself that I am right for not adding the Dining Plan. The problem is that they make you buy park passes with the Dining Plan. We bought 10 day no expiration hopper passes last year and I have one other days pass so I only need two passes for the whole trip. Also would have one days worth of meals that probably won't be used since we arrive late in the day and leave late morning. I can't justify it but I am still thinking about it especially with our dinner reservations. :confused3

I'll pop in! I'm tracking other ptr to try to get up the nerve to write my own for our Feb. trip.

I'm sure you are making the right decision for your family to not get the DDP.

Your ptr is coming along nicely.

Thanks. I keep telling myself the math doesn't add up (I am an accountant so I do a lot of adding). :teacher: I know the meals aren't cheap but it doesn't seem right to get something we may not use.

I also may be getting some "free" passes to Disney from a friend of my boss. He is trying to get my boss some and I added us to the list. I work for him too but the request is best from the boss since he is going the week before us. I am hoping he comes through this way I save our passes for another trip and I save the cost for our daughter's pass (that is $200).

If you don't want to do DDP, don't beat yourself up over it!!!

We've done it and it was nice since everything was"prepaid," so convenient for budgeting purposes...but honestly I don't think we've ever really SAVED any $$ wih it. Definately not now with the tip not included. The only reason it may have helped us save a couple bucks is b/c the kids price (11/day) is truely a bargin.... but for the adults, I don't think it pays anyway!!

You can enjoy ANYWHERE and eat ANYTHING without it..no restrictions!!

We did DDP at Christmas :santa: with four adults (DD and now ex BF - yes we were good parents). I used two table credits to get Hoop Dee Doo Review and one dinner at China (we did the sampler meal). Both those dinners were over $25/credit/person for dinner. Because of Hoop Dee Doo I paid for The Plaza out of pocket ($75 I think for 4 but cheaper than Hoop Dee Doo). We also made sure we got our $ worth for lunch. We got the combo platter at the Mexican Cantina which was $9 at Epcot and the dole float at Magic Kingdom. I found a list of snack places and what was covered so we made it work. :cheer2:

With the tip not included I do have to think twice, if it was not a "budget" trip I would add it but like I said when I look at first and last days I have an issue using the credits up.

Waiting to have the car service to call back to get that reserved. Hubby and I agree it may be a bit more expensive than parking at the airport but having to lug the suitcases across the parking lot, up the elevator, on the monorail, back down the escalator (3 sets) to bag check and then the reverse on the way home makes it worth the price of the car.

Once the car service is done the only thing I know of to get taken care of for the "perfect trip" at this point would be calling back the reservation number and finding out that there was a AAA discount cancellation to get us a water view. :worship: I want the nice view. I will pay for that.

Well this morning after looking around :surfweb: and finding a Disney code in the most unlikely of places (their website), I added the Dining Plan to our reservations. :yay:

It saved $300 off the regular price of the package and brought it inline with the budget. . The trip went from $1,639 to $1,342. Big enought savings to justify it. :worship: I was figuring out the cost of our dinners and I said to hubby to you think it will cost $400 for us to eat when we were there and he said probably (dinner at The Plaza, Mama Melrose, and The Wave, plus one unknown dinner). I have no problem tipping the servers for dinner. My boss owns 3 diners and my daughter is a server also so I know how they bust their butt to earn $2.13 an hour plus tips.

The only thing we need to do is give DD the one day pass off of our cards so that she has the amount she needs to gain access to the parks. That is fine. I still may get free tickets too so we may save some or all of our no expiration passes. :rolleyes1

Plus we got in our tickets to today to MVMMCP. They are cool looking.

Getting better and better. :yay: :woohoo:

Boy has my trip changed. Now there are four of us going and we are in two rooms. :confused3

In the last few days we lost my step father who had been sick for a very long time. :sad2: We asked my mom to come along with us. She had been taking care of him before and during his hospitalization and really was stressed. We thought she would really appreciate it.

I asked her last night and she said yes she wanted to go. I got home last night and got her and my daughter their own room and got her ticket to MVMMCP and added to all of her dining reservations. She was practially in tears.

I am so sad over our loss :sad1: but I am so happy that my mom will get to go away and have something to look forward to. :cheer2:

I'm very sorry for your loss!!!!

That is so nice of you taking your Mom along... i'm sure she'll appreciate the stress release and the chance to spend some quality time with your DD...she probably hasn't had the time to spend with her for a while, taking care of Dad, I'm sure consumed most of her time. Great way for you all to reconnect and enjoy one another!!:goodvibes

Paula

Thanks Paula. I spoke to Mom last night and she said she is thrilled to be going. She can't remember the last time she had fun. The last time she was on vacation was two years ago. They were supposed to go on vacation last September but the day they were going to leave was his first trip to the hospital.

She loved the pictures of the ice castle I took last year and now she get to see it at MVMMCP. I think it will be very therapeutic for all.
