I have stargazers planted here and there. The ones in my 'dish' garden opened first. They opened on the first.

My cluster is really spectacular today. There's a nice wind and it's spreading their fragrance all over. This cluster is 5 feet tall. One even has 11 blooms on it. I'm just amazed and in awe. I think all the rain really helped.

Those are beautiful ! Do you think they would work for my zone (5) ? Also, how did you post your pictures-I can't figure out how to do it.

LOL! I just found this on a website!

K- Stargazer Oriental Lily (Lilium ‘Stargazer‘)Zones 4-9. Fragrant pink-and-white flowers in summer. 30" tall.

It looks like you can grow them in Zone 5.

30" tall! LOLOLOL!!!!

What a magnificant plant.

I live in zone 5 also, and yes you can plant lilies. I have a few planted not as beautiful and the last few years it been a struggle. A few years back some new imported beetle from Asia has been devouring our lilies. These little red beetles if left unattended will completely strip the entire stalk of leaves and buds and replace them with balls of black larvae.

Amid has named this new menace "The Poop Bug" I know Mass is having a terrible time with the bug. Some have even pulled up all their lilies trying to control this bug. I used a sevin dust on mine and it seems to control them a little but it's needs to be dusted on a regular basis, these plants don't seem to have the vigor they once had. I don't know whether or not this new bug has moved on to other states. Like all the other bug that have come from foreign countries this bug is advancing across the state and devouring lilies in it's path.

I would check if this beetle has moved into your area yet. I can tell you if it has, unless you are willing to spray and pick these bugs off on a daily basis I wouldn't plant them.

I've heard of this beetle and I've been watching for it. I'm sure they'll get here eventually. I'm dreading the day.

Olena, your lillies are gorgeous! I sure wish we had that scratch n' sniff feature....;)

I remember the "Poop Bug"...I hope he by-passes your beauties! :)

...notice it's a "he"? lol...

Tulirose stands up and applauds! - for the lilies, not the poop bugs!

I had a lot of Asiatics and Oriental lilies in NH. The poop bugs did not seem to disturb the Orientals but they devatated the Asiatics. The second year I discovered Sevin and much as I hate to use it, it worked. It does have to be applied at at least two week intervals.

Your Stargazers are fabulous. but - a word of warning. Don't stick your nose too close to sniff them and then go anywhere without looking in a mirror. I did this in a garden center and only later at the checkout did someone tell me I had 4 BIG bright yellow pollen smears all over my snout. Ahhhh . . .a Kodak moment!

I can smell them:D I planted some of these about 4 years ago. Every year they would come in kind of small, about 18 to 24 inches. This year they went crazy. I have about 3 of them that are about as tall as yours. The sad part is that we were waiting and waiting for them to bloom. As soon as we left for Disney they opened up. We were gone for 10 days and missed most of them. There were only about 4 blooms left of about 25:( We will just have wait until next year!
