I wish the new private island had a pool.

I don't understand this comment...you make it sound like Royal is the only one that charges extra for things on their island. For the record, Royal charges for 3 things...Waterpark, hot air balloon, and zip line....none of which Disney has.

They both charge for things like pool floats and snorkel rentals. Disney charges for bike rentals. Neither of them charges for things like food, beach access, etc.

But Royal has a pool (the topic of this thread) and they do NOT charge for it. They also have a kids water slide play area that puts Disney's small water play area to shame (also free)
Does RCL charge for chairs and umbrellas? I was watching a video for an NCL cruise the other day and they said that NCL charged something like $25 for the chairs.

No, RCL does not charge for umbrellas and chairs. Just massively overpriced cabanas...just like DCL!

I think part of it may even be down to how it was sold to the Bahamian government. We know there were tons of environmental concessions made, and with the amount of land provided, to not have another tiny pool like on the ships you would have to have a pretty significant piece of real estate for a pool big enough for 2500 people. No they won't all use it, but what number do you use. I think the intent has changed a little over time, but with Castaway, it was not designed to have someone onsite all week long, and finding a pool out of whack the morning of the ship arrival would not be a pleasant find. Yes I know, someone could come over and check it daily and you could do this or that, but I think the added work and resources are just not there. I don't think LP would have been approved if it were set up like Coco Cay, but that is my assumption based on the amount of things that were already given up for it to happen at all.

(I’m taking this thread as a discussion, not an argument, with pros and cons.). And not saying you are arguing. If you are, I apologize for not recognizing it.

I was actually quoting the words of a member of this forum Regarding a party-like pool environment. Combined with what I have experienced on other cruise lines. Disney Resort pools are not noisy experiences - and I have seen the party atmosphere. But I have not seen a swim-up pool bar in the WDW resorts, either.

My worst fear might never be realized if a pool were put on one of the islands.

I really just don’t see that Disney has a need for a pool. They manage to get enough business - no need to compete by lowering prices. They aren’t that quick to change their MO if it’s working - other than by taking away things (until they get too much push back).

I have an underlying belief that money is the driving force behind most decisions - then what we want. And explain why a non-cruiser designed the Triton class. It’s not always logic or listening to the customers.

As for ocean v pool safety: my concern would be that parents would trust the pool to be safe and leave children unattended there. I don’t think there is the same response to beach safety - a little more watching your own people. It is not true for everyone, nor may be true at all.

But again, I have never heard of a drowning at Castaway Cay, but know of it happening onboard a DCL ship.

We can all hope they make LP a great destination. I imagine we’ll be hearing comparisons of it to CC for quite awhile! I am happy we get to visit this beautiful area of the world. Pool or no pool.

But, again, I’d like a lazy river. 😉. (Yes, I like the excursion to Atlantis in Nassau - specifically for the lazy river. And it’s what I do at Blizzard Beach. I guess I am not opposed to man-made water areas. Both are peaceful.)
There have been a few deaths at Castaway Cay.....whether drownings or not I do not know. One was definitely a heart attack. My dad was on the excursion with one man who passed away.

I wouldn't mind a pool at LP. I loved the pool after the beach at the Mexican beach day we had on Cozumel.

I think a relaxing lazy river atmosphere that blends in with the environment is probably what most disney fans want when they say they want a pool and not the party booze pools that you fear.

Now there is, in olden times like maybe 10 ish years ago everything was taken on and off every trip.
That's still true. There has always been a small team that lived there to take care of the animals (e.g., stingrays) and the property, but all food is brought from the ship and all garbage is taken off the island when they leave. During hurricanes, only a very small skeleton crew remains and everyone else is evacuated.

I remember seeing some job postings a few years back for roles that lived on the island. I, unfortunately, did not have a background in marine biology nor the right type of facility management, so I had to keep my existing job and just visit CC from time to time. :P

I find it odd that some believe a swim up bar would automatically = party atmosphere. It’s still Disney clientele and there is very little part atmosphere on the ships even at the bars. I mean on the dream/fantasy the bar is essentially in the pool on one side and it’s about as far from a party atmosphere as it gets.

It wouldn’t be anything more than a place to chill and have a cocktail

Honestly, I prefer Virgin's Bimini Beach Club over both Castaway and Coco Cay. They have 2 pools (1 "party", 1 "quiet", though they are near each other) and a large beach area. We spent most all our time at the pool (not just because we saw about a 12-foot Hammerhead off the pier...). I felt that the pool areas and beach areas complimented each other there.

But, and a BIG but... Virgin is 18+, so you have a much different vibe without any kids on the island.

Well, I do wish there was a pool, but I want to experience it. There’s a cruise next year that we will try to book.
