I wish DLR/DCA would turn into DisneyWorld part 2

I now DLR is the original park and all but I can't help but say that I wish DLR has as much space as Disney World has to allow for all of the different resorts that they have.

I would love it if Disney spend a ton of money and buy up the surrounding area to expand the park and make it similar to Disney World. I know it never will be because DLR is in a major city that's already built out but considering all of the money that they've spent recently adding to the Disney empire and brand, I would like them to start adding property space to expand and make it kinda like Disney World.

There is one guaranteed spot open for a third theme park. South of the current DLR and on Katella

Plus one small area near the Paradise Hotel.

If I had to guess the future...
They will build a new parking structure north of the Gardenwalk. Take over Gardenwalk and make it into a smaller Downtown Disney plus add small less expensive hotels in that area which will lead to the new expensive hotel that will be connected to the third theme park, where the current castmember parking and toy story lot reside.

Paradise Pier hotel will go away and will expand into a water park/ hotel combination to compete with the upcoming Great Wold Lodge being built in the nearby Garden Grove city.

Downtown Disney expands into the current parking lot between ESPN and Rainforest Cafe. New parking structure will be built for DTD where the overflow parking is currently at

I hope they never do that.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but one of the reasons I love DLR over WDW is the fact that everything is so accessible. I love not having to get on a bus or drive from my resort to the park, and being able to park-hop on a whim. DLR packs a lot of magic into a small space, and to try and expand it to WDW levels would would probably just dilute it!

I to disagree and hope they never do that! I'm all for expanding but not to be like WDW.

I'm with Eclectic Goddess and YukonMommy! I do hope they continue to grow and add new elements, but I love the fact that you can easily walk between the two parks and DTD. I love the fact that WDW has so much to offer (parks, resorts, etc.), but I don't feel like DLR needs to become WDW in any way. They're two different resorts, both enjoyable in their own way and neither would be as much fun if they just tried to copy each other.

This.

I'm actually really bothered by the fact that Carsland is rumored to be headed to WDW. I'm quite put off by it and keep hoping it will be stopped. I'd love a Pixar Land at WDW, instead!

I get irritated by things like putting the Little Mermaid ride at both parks or putting Trader Sam's in at the Poly. I prefer the parks to try to remain separate, unique identities. That way, they both have their own offerings and individual flavor.

We go to DLR and WDW every year, so maybe that's part of my desire for them to be unique. There's no point in bothering if they are going to be the same.

That rumor pretty much died off after the Star Wars acquisition. Now the thought is that Star Wars land will be headed to DHS (and DL's Tomorrowland).

I heard a few weeks back during our trip that the whole idea of another Disney hotel was totally kiboshed? Of course, that info came from DVC and not some further up source, but still?

I agree with all those that disagree here. Making DLR more like WDW would ruin it. I think a third park would be cool and is in DLR's future. If they could build something like Tokyo DisneySea then DLR would be really on top.

Agree! Agree! I like my DLR with a side of World City thrown in around it. I'm not a fan of the middle-of-nowhere vibe you get at WDW at all, because it makes it so much harder to get around.

I'm going to agree with the OP. Clearly DL resort is landlocked, but I'd love to see a third gate open up. But for that to happen, Disney will have to buy more hotels to take advantage of all the people who would now be staying at DLR for 3+ days and not just a 1-2 trip. I think that would be great, as well.

With just 3 hotels, they have the price way too stinking high. Buying more hotels and slapping the Disney name on it would enable them to reduce the price of staying "on property" and staying in the magic like you feel at WDW. That's the one thing I miss at DL is the escape you feel at WDW. More hotel choices and a third gate would definitely add so much more.

With Universal about to turn up the heat with Harry Potter coming to Hollywood, Disney would be brilliant to build a Marvel park or a Star Wars park or a combo. It would obliterate U>Studios. Oooooorrrrrr they could just sit nice and tidy and watch a big market share go across town to Hogwarts, just so they could pacify the fans who want to keep DL "quaint". I say build it and build it BIG.

I'd like to have another park be added, but I don't want it to be crazy big like WDW. I like how homey it feels compared to that park. It would be cool if they had like a Pixar park where it was dedicated to all things pixar, or even Marvel (but I think they are still to close to Universal to do that... who knows.) I don't want a water park, I feel like water parks don't do well here.

Why would they have a lower price hotel? Anaheim isn't Orlando. There are and will always be offsite options at a lower price that Disney isn't going to compete with. In Orlando, they have the pull of being on site, which make transportation to the parks easier. Instead of driving and parking, let us get you there. In Anaheim, that need isn't there. Unless they buy up a whole lot of hotels, there are options that are just as close (sometimes closer) that the DLR hotels. At WDW, they are competing in a very different market than Anaheim.

In Orlando, you can find a cheaper hotel than even the values, but you have to weight the transit benefits. WDW can charge a premium for on site hotels because of the location. Off site hotels cannot offer this, no matter how much cheaper they are, they still cannot be close enough to WDW to get you there without transit, and they cannot offer the kind of transit WDW can. In Anaheim, you can find a cheaper hotel and be equally if not closer than the Disney hotels. It's a completely different situation, and I don't envision Disneyland ever dropping the price of an on site hotel to the point where it will be even close to the local hotels. So, since they obviously have no issues selling rooms for the ones they have at much higher prices, there is absolutely no incentive for them to lower the price.

...please allow me to clarify.

When I say that I'd like a Disney World part 2, I don't mean an exact replica that's spread out over hundreds of miles. Anaheim just simply doesn't have the space to do that and it would cost Disney billions to recreate Disney World in CA. I guess I should have been a little more specific in saying that I would like them to recreate Disney World.

What I mean is that I would like to them to bring over some of the more spread out attractions such as the dedicated water parks. I would love to have that available to us. I know the animal kingdom and the camping wouldn't be feasible but it would be kinda cool if we had something similar.

I guess by basis for even bringing this up is because we do want to visit Disney World in the near future because it is unique enough from DLR/DCA but for a family of 5 plus my mom, that will be a really expensive trip. I would much rather save that money from airfare and hotel and spend it at DLR/DCA if they had most of the same rides or even better attractions such as a 3rd park modeled after Star Wars or something like that.

I'm with all of you that would much rather have the intimate park rather than the super large and open park where you really have to travel to get from one resort to the next.

I love how DLR is right across the way from DCA.

If anything, expand DCA even further to include a Star Wars land since they are based out of Northern CA.

I am was not a fan when they put in toon town. I don't like change. I was not happy about DCA opening either. Again I just don't like change:laughing: I am still undecided on if I like DCA.

I like it the way it is and I hate the idea of it becoming "WDW 2." WDW is a wonderful place, and DLR is a wonderful place. They are not the same wonderful place and I don't see that as a bad thing, but as a really good thing. I do wish it wasn't so popular now. And it would be nice if it was once again the unique original it used to be and not the generic 'One Disney' it is becoming. As far as buying up property so they can expand it into more parks like WDW, I again find that an alarming idea. I do, however, like the concept of adding to DLR and morphing things around. I just don't like the suggestion of it becoming a sequel, which to me would diminish the link to Walt.
