I wish DLR/DCA would turn into DisneyWorld part 2

I don't want it to become WDW 2 but I do wish they would add more. The marvel park we are hoping for I pray will be the third park, but I would also love to see an Epcot /animal park type park by Disney in CA. I cant get to wdw, id love for more to be added to DL.

We've been to both. One of the appeals to my wife of DL over WDW - and the main reason we now go almost exclusively to DL - is the walkability of the resort. With WDW, there is a feeling that you must commit to one resort for the day. Yes - they do have the transit system - but have you ever tried that in practice with kids? Or even without kids? It's (well, next to the humidity for us Nordic Northwesterners) the biggest turnoff of WDW.

Think about that - it's not going from a 2 hour to a 6 hour plane ride. It's the fact that DCA and DL are immediately next to each other, with DTD a stone's throw away.

I'm not against a third park. I'd love it - I love the idea of starting to bring their more teenage properties together like Marvel and Star Wars (and possibly Indiana Jones, a new take on PoTC, Tron). But if it is beyond a short 5-10 minutes walk from the DL/DCA complex, it's dead in the water IMO. It violates one of the cardinal rules/benefits of this wonderful experience.

Nope... The best part about DLR is the proximity to everything. You can get a room on property (or off) and you don't have to get in a car, shuttle bus, boat, or monorail the entire time! Everything is within walking distance!

I'm currently planning for out next Disney trip which will be 2 weeks at WDW and find myself already stressing out about fast passes and dining reservations, and our trip is still over 6 months away. I hate having to plan which park we are going to on which day. I hate having to plan what time we have to leave the resort to catch the 2 shuttle busses that will take us to our dining reservations on the other side of the world! Stupid FP+, ADR's and Magic Bands! :headache:

This sounds like WORK not a vacation. I can't imagine we will experience WDW until my kids are teenagers at the earliest. With them ages 8,5 and 4 that will feel like forever.

We are taking our first DL trip in four years in December. 6 months away and I think I've already done 90 percent of my planning. Most of the trip is paid for, pre-visit souvenirs for the kiddos purchased, character dining and a tour planned. With the exception of those two things we will get there and have 5 days to leisurely do it all. I'm not planning what day we will do what... we will roll with it as the crowds and the kids help decide. I was just thinking today that I've ran out of things to actually plan b/c well, there was so few things to plan to begin with. :)

I did really enjoy the FP+ at WDW and would love to see that at DLR! We are not super planners and it was easy enough to do that online and then use the app to change them around.

Who wants DLR to turn into WDW2??? :confused3 I love DLR, but WDW doesn't appeal to me at all! Too much work, not enough charm. And why would you want two of what would essentially be the same experience?

I must be in the minority who don't like Marvel/Star Wars, and wouldn't bother to go to a third park themed after them. However, it might take some of the crowds away from DL/DCA, so it wouldn't all be bad :rotfl: If the third park was animal themed, I would definitely be interested, but I can't see that happening in a residential area.

Some more affordable Disney hotels would be good, but to be honest, it's the Disneyland Hotel I've got my heart set on. I wouldn't even be happy with Paradise Pier :rotfl: So realistically I'd probably still opt to save money by staying at a clean and safe motel across the road, and just be happy walking everywhere that I need to :goodvibes

No. Absolutely no, not ever please. Lol. If it gets bigger it won't be as walkable. I love how accessible DLR is.

I don't want an all immersive experience. Disney already offers that in FL, they don't need it in CA. I also don't think DLR needs a water park or more thrill rides, because those already exist in close proximity. The mix DLR has now works, they're already the top park and they don't need to try to out compete other parks in the same market. As far as expanding, they're already buying property, like the RV park that will become CM parking. But at the same time, a bunch of people losing their homes and/or business so that tourists can "feel the magic" just doesn't sit well with me.

After a few trips to Walt Disney World, including last November, I hope that they keep whatever expansion they do within walking distance.

After our first trip, we "had" to have at least a resort or two within walking distance, after staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, so we opted for Beach Club, which was fantastic and made us really fall in love with the World Showcase, part of Epcot.

That being said, a best of both worlds could exist, if they could maintain the closeness of DLR with some of the better restaurants of WDW, and of course expand the Hotel Choices, including some Moderates and even a Budget choice on Disney Property would be Magical.

I'd say that's your loss. WDW is such a great experience, especially for younger kids. And it's not really work. It's fun! It's the thrill of the chase to try to get your favorite restaurant lined up 6 months out. Really, you need to try WDW while the kids are young. It'll be the best experience you'll ever have.

I think what most people here are missing is that those of us in CA don't want to spend the $2K to fly our family all the way to WDW if DLR can offer something similar. Not the same, but similar. To have a third gate and really immerse yourself in the Disney Magic is something you just don't get in Anaheim. You can get close, but it just misses what you get in Orlando. Which is exactly why in 12 years of marriage we've spent over 50 days at WDW and only 7 at DL, even though we live 300 miles from the latter. Only money (or the lack of it's abundance) is driving me to DL these days. If I had the cash, I'd go to where Disney has 4 parks and 2 waterparks and 20+hotels and..... DL is a great place, but it has the potential to be incredible like it's big baby brother. But that's my opinion, clearly not consensus.
