I am making a vow today. I will not respond to controversial threads unless I can say something nice.

Maybe if I type this 100 times, it will work.

Anyone want to join me???

Nancy

Then what's the fun of responding at all? I am not saying that it's ok to be intentionally mean, but if you refuse to speak your mind and just post pixie-dust filled posts, you really are not being true to yourself (unless you really are full of pixie dust).

Also I think people tend to read a lot INTO posts written here and that causes misunderstandings. It's hard to read controversial posts/threads unemotionally, but sometimes you have to separate yourself from what someone else wrote and realize that 99% of the time it's really not personal.

That would be me, when I'm having a bad day.;) I tend to enjoy giving support and pixie dust when I'm having a bad day. Tends to make the day better somehow.

Oh sure, but sometimes you can't tell they're controversial. You think you're posting to a neutral-type thread, and the next thing you know it's closed. Maybe we could invent some type of "Controversial Thread Spyware" - and then we could screen 'em.;)

I've been accused of being full of a lot of things, but never pixie dust.

I guess I am upset at myself because I let a someone get under my skin and answered them in a not so nice way. If that person is not a troll, then there really are some unscrupulus people in this world. I lowered myself to that person's standards by responding in the manner that I did, so now I am mad at myself. I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve and that is not always a good thing in life.

Contreversial Thread Spyware is only calibrated to detect threads started by Van Helsing so far.

 Hi VH!

I think perhaps it'd be better to vow NOT to say "not so nice" things. Controversy is fine, IMO. As long as there's a respectful attitude.

Been there, done that! :o :(

When the DB was closed (well, maybe a little bit before that), I decided I needed to reform my ways and attempt to practice at least a semblance of civility in posting, especially on controversial threads. I believe it's important to speak one's mind, honestly. And I believe we can, if we try, disagree agreeably -- or at least, not in a mean-spirited way.

I can't claim to have always succeeded, but I am trying. Maybe that's the best we can expect of each other. (Another approach I am trying is just not opening some threads. But I am too curious and often way too opinionated to keep my "mouth" -- i.e., keyboard -- closed. :( :o

Don't worry, give it enough time and THIS thread will turn contraversial, thus inadvertantly breaking your own vow. :p :p :p

It seems like to me that the the nasty parts of the old db and nasty debates on this board are like porn and drugs -- if people didn't want the stuff, there wouldn't be a market for it and they wouldn't exist!:p.

Heaven knows I enjoy reading them now and then -- I just really think that I want to stay out of them! Keep on being controversial, folks, if only for my entertainent!

Okay, would you instead like to hear more about my crazy aunt then?;) I've got to be around her this weekend, and I dread it! ;) :D

Is she very, very crazy? Sure! I'd love to hear about her? :D

Sure, tell me about crazy auntie. (My 2 nephews probably feel the same way about me:eek:)

Yes, she's mean and bossy, and very cranky all of the time. I'm sure that you two are much nicer. :D

She should be a character on "The Sopranos" she thinks she's a mafia boss, or something.

I usually just try to avoid her.:sunny:

minnie,
my mother's 1/2 sister was like that. Very cranky. She was never happy about anything. I guess every family has one.

Yes, you are right, my uncle (her husband) died not too long ago. It seems to have made her worse. So I do feel sorry for her.:(

I, on the other hand, am the aunt that always gets in trouble for letting my nephews do stuff they aren't supposed to ! (Not on purpose, it's just that I'm so gullible! "Your mom says it's OK to stay up until 4:00 AM? Well, sure, it's OK with me! Cake for dinner? OK - if you're sure your mom won't mind.)

I'm sure my sisters have a few things to say about how crazy I am!

I'm really nice to my neices and nephews too. I always give them presents, and spoil them too!

I'm definitely crazy too, but in a nice way!:sunny:

Okay if we are going to compare crazy relatives Im tossing in my mil. She has always been "different" but our last trip was to much. One day at DtD my 2 youngest and my nephew were playing in the water area (where the water shoots out of the gorund) and when we got back to our room we were going to MK. And horror or horrors I was going let the boys wear their wet shirts--it was 90+ degree's outside. She went on and on about practically crying over it. We went, she stayed. About 1 hour after getting to MK they were dry and hot again. That night she checked my nephew every 10 minutes--saying I let him sleep wet and naked  ---Excuse me but he dried over 8 hours ago and has had a bath and dried off again with towel.
Another time she almost cried because my oldest ds and I dropped a french fry on the floor of our room while we ate take out. She actually dove to floor to pick it up, crying "we cant have this, we cant have this". Its not that was I was going to leave food on the floor but I did want to have my lunch first then I was planning on throwing any trash or left overs.
And that is a smallu sampling of the fun we had on our trip.
