I will never "get" this!

Its normal to stand if your close but when your up in the nosebleed section I might get a little tired of standing id be afraid I was going to fall.

The thing I hate is trying to see thru signs

I haven't been to a concert where people mostly sit. I even went to Neil Diamond last year and people got up to dance. Sure there was sitting but some songs, like the slow boring ones. Sitting in your chair and wiggling is lame and not at all as fun as getting up and dancing. What's the point of going to a live show if you are just going to sit there?

I lied, people mainly sat for James Taylor and since he doesn't have much 'danceble' music and it was in a theatre rather than arena I'll let that slide.

But rock concerts, arena shows. Get up and dance!

I almost always stand at concerts but that's because I don't really mind standing and I want to see because everyone else in front of me is standing.

But I have found a good alternative in a couple of family friendly formats. I love outdoor concerts with huge screens everywhere because then you can sit pretty far away so that the standers don't bother you but you can still see because the huge screens are projecting close ups of the stage and performers. Mostly you only see this at the two and three day Christian concerts that have lots of bands and often more than one stage. Only bad thing about them is you sometimes have to pick between two favorites that are on different stages at the same time.

I think it depends on the concert. Some are just not "dancing" shows. The one thing that does PO me is people who decide that they need to come to the front at reserved seating shows.

The last concert I attended was a Great Big Sea show with reserve seating. We took our 5 year old ds to see his favourite band (and first concert) and had tickets in the second row. First set was good because it was mostly tradtional songs but the second set was not so good. As the set went along, more and more people felt it was perfectly fine come and stand in front of the stage. I'm sorry you weren't fast enough at hte ticket window to get tickets at the front so stay at your seat. :furious:

Luckily for ds he fell asleep at the intermission and didn't wake up to be blocked by this group of rude people.

Amen! This is exactly what I was thinking when reading this post. I know my fellow LLB'rs love to get up and dance but dog gone it, it sucks when I can't see. EVEN if I stand (which I can't for long), I am short, 5' so I can't see over folks.

There are some of us who really like to go to concerts but are not physically able to stand the entire time.

We went to a concert last night. Opening act was Huey Lewis and the News; second act was Chicago.

HEY!!!! NOBODY told me its's 1983! :teeth:

So, for those sitters out there, would you also think people should sit during sporting events? When the team does something intense (good or bad) people instinctively fly up out of their seats. It's part of being there to witness the event live.

Most bands encourage people to stand - the show is more fun to play if the crowd is into it and it is harder to be into it if you're sitting. There are lots of things that bother me, and so I make choices not to attend or remove myself from a situation. If you're an adamant sitter I think you're limited to first row seating (floor, lower deck, or upper deck) or a home viewing on DVD.

...actually, any concerts I have been to, no one sits :woohoo: ...everyone is having a great time screaming, dancing   and I must admit doing all of this while standing.

I do however agree with your point that if there are people who are sitting, be respectful and don't block their view.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone sitting at a concert, but maybe we go to different types of concerts. :confused3

Kind of like UF games!! We made the mistake of sitting on the alum - aka old folks side one year and everyone was sitting and discussing their fams etc...no one was into the game...

but concerts - unless it was classical or something of that nature I would be up and dancing! Sorry folks behind me....I never miss an opportunity to dance!

Yep I think you've got to assume that you could be doing a fair amount of standing at a concert.

My teenage DD #2 is not only really finicky about personal space, but it drives her crazy when anyone sings along with the radio, CD, whatever.
She knows if she went to a concert chances are someone around her would drive her bonkers (for sure her mom if she went with me :rotfl: ) so she has never been.

Teenage DD #1 is completely different. She loves the whole live concert experience and has been to many. Not much phases her anymore. (kind of sad really) Last one she went to she came home and told us about the drunks in front of her who were on their feet and loudly rocking out the whole time the opening act was on and then both passed out and missed the headliner. Said it was a pain, but what can you do?
(She did get security to check on them to make sure they were OK btw)

So my girls just choose to spend their entertainment $$ differently based on what they like and what they think they would or would not be comfortable with.

I think it depends on what kind of concert it is. I know that in the old days, most people sat at rock concerts mainly because it was too hard for a lot of them to stand considering the condition they were in. ;)

I wouldn't want to stand the whole time and people don't at sporting events. They get up when something interesting happens but then they sit down again. That to me is the way to go.

I'm glad that people don't stand up at musicals!

The difference that at a sporting event, people usually sit back down after that intense event.

When I pay no less than $80 to see my favorites, I feel I am justified to stand and dance if I feel like it. It's a concert and music is for dancing. Now if they play a slow song or slow it down, I will sit. There is nothing worse than going to a show and getting stuck around drones who just sit and complain when everyone else around them is standing and dancing.
I am a paraplegic. I have no choice. I cannot stand up. Any suggestions for me, or am I just SOL??

sorry but I too and a stander. I'm there to enjoy. Its not a movie its a concert. Get up and shake that thing. :teeth:

Well, certain types of concerts, you're supposed to stand and dance. Others, such as a choral or classical concert, you're supposed to sit.

If, I'm at a rock/trance/whatever concert where you're supposed to feel like dancing, then I will get up and dance.
For me personally, I can't be overly rude when doing that. At 4'7", you could probably see over my head while you're still seated. :lmao:

Sorry to hear about that. But don't they have areas for the handicapped? If not, they really should.

Every concert I've attended at my home stadium had reserved seating for wheelchairs and those unable to stand. It's near the front stage right, a whole section right in front of the railing with an unobstructed view of the stage. I believe all public venues like this are required to have this section by the americans with disablilites act. If your local arena doesn't, I'd definitely complain LOUDLY!

This years shows for me:

Burn Season/Revelation Theory/Sevendust--Stood, danced, RAWKED until I couldn't move and had no voice (that was NYE @ HoB DTD :thumbsup2 )

Jada Pinkett Smiths suck*** band/John 5's solo project (Loser)/Nonpoint/Sevendust--Holy freaking crap! Stood and RAWKED!

Theory of a Deadman/Staind--Stood, wandered around, talked to friends, watched a bit more, sang along a bit, Rocked out to "Mudshovel", left

dManufacture--busy taking pictures through entire show, sang along a bit I suppose

Scum of the Earth (Riggs' new project)/Blood Simple/Disturbed (two nights in a row)--will need years of therapy to recover--stood entire night

Breaking Point/Scott Stapp--Stood during Breaking Point, found a seat for the second half of Stapp's show.

Halestorm/Flyleaf/Shinedown/Seether (three times)--Stood through entire show two of three nights, sat on barstool during one.

Ed Hamell--Of course I sat, it was a caberet style show. Besides, if you stand to use the bathroom or something like that during Ed's show you'll become part of the show--if you want to be or not... :rotfl:

10 Years/KoRn--Sat during 10 Years, stood during some of KoRn, was deathly ill otherwise would have been rocking.

More@CBGB's--sat only because I was on an elevated platform taking photo's

Coheed and Cambria/Avenged Sevenfold--Sat through most of both bands, was sick and didn't like either of them.

Taproot--Sat through most of the show, still sick.

Two all day back-to-back festivals with headliners Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, Staind, Shinedown, Nonpoint, and about six other bands each day--Day one stood most of the day, Day two sat some of the time. Too hot to do much roking out.

Cinder/Dark New Day--Sat for Cinder, Stood, danced, sang for Dark New Day.

Burn Season/Skindred--rocked out for both bands!!

Bo Bice--started sitting but 2/3 way through was dancing away!

Tuesday night I'll be seeing Blondie and the New Cars, and expect that it will be similar to Bo Bice, I'll start sitting and end up dancing.

(Note--I'm always standing the first three songs of any band as I'm photographing during that time frame, and I wasn't counting any of that in this list...)

At many arena's it's actually the main floor where the rest rooms and food vendors are, where you'd walk down the stairs to lower level seats or the floor, and upstairs to the higher level seats. The problem is that they are generally the last row of this level, adjacent to the box suites, and when people in front stand the mobility impaired person can't see over them.

Sorry, I have heard of very few of the bands you listed. Shows how much I don't listen to your kind of rock music! :teeth: :rotfl:

Same here. This is why I don't go to concerts anymore. Once the crowd stands up I'm SOL.

E.T.A
Usually the wheelchair seating is the last row. It's accessible per the ADA but it doesn't work for most concerts.
