I received a diaper cake when I was pregnant (12 years ago!). It is one of my favorite gifts that I received. It wasn't nearly as fancy as the pics that were posted. just lots of diapers, pastel colored wash cloths for the flowers, and many other little things, teething rings, the plastic key toys, the mini-sizes of shampoo etc.
Since my shower, any shower I've helped to host has had a diaper cake. It is the perfect centerpiece!
How rude! I just LOVED my diaper cake! I didn't know what it was when I first saw it (didn't know what exactly it was made of till I inspected it closer). It had so much adornment on it (rattles, pacifers, wash cloths, booties, etc....) that I didn't realize the cake was made out of diapers. My cousin made it for me. I was so thrilled & out of all the great stuff that people gave me when my 2nd DS was born, that always stands out in my mind & was my most cherished gift. I almost didn't want to disassemble it! (I did though & used it! )
My stepsister's cousin made her one for her baby shower and it was the hit of the party!! I think she was waaay out of line and your gift was a very nice one.
The lady had probably never seen one before. Maybe she meant, "What is she supposed to do, take it apart, leave it together for a decoration in the baby room for awhile?" It's so cute, it seems a pity to take it apart and use it.

so that is what i thought at first. But almost all these women have a 2 year old and is preg again with another one or just had another one. So some one had to get one, but maybe not if they are all part of the same "click"
I agree very rude. My SIL's shower is in 2 weeks and I am dreading it. Her and I have never been close, I just wish I could say I am sick and send the gift.
At least you put the time and effort to do something very thoughtful for your SIL. I wouldn't even think of doing something like that for mine, because I know I would get the same response you did.
Your gesture was very nice. Actually I've never seen a diaper cake before, but would have loved to get one.
So your SIL's friend was rude. Why would you lower yourself to her level by saying something to your SIL or your husband? Can either of them do anything about the rude comment that the friend made? And how do you know that your SIL didn't say anything to her firend later about the rude comment?
And why would a comment from such a small-minded, pathetic individual even cause you such angst? I'd have probably looked at her, said "Jealousy is such an ugly emotion" and laughed it off.
