So we did an Eastern in ‘06 and a Western in ‘08. We haven’t been able to cruise DCL since due to the 4princesses attended(ing) college and 2 weddings 49 days apart!

Anyway...I was Looking at the huge everything you want to know about DCL list that was originally stated back when we first cruised. And something popped into my head - I wonder if they still .......?????? I thought I could ask here but— Senior moment — I forgot what it was when I got the chance to get on.

So, “OLD CRUISERS”what are some things that DCL used to do or have that they DON’T anymore?

BTW the Castaway Club gift in ‘08 was a bunch of stuff - a tote bag full of things and we had two cabins and got two sets.
I know about the no over the door shoe holder (boy that helped) and no power strip.

😬

And maybe I will remember what I wanted to ask...we have about 7 weeks.

No more paper navigators delivered to your room. You can still pick up one from guest services.
No more individual shampoo, conditioner, etc. It now comes in a big bottle that the stateroom host tops off.
These were both done recently.
If you haven’t done this make sure you download the Disney cruise app.
Welcome back to DCL.

Alcohol policy has changed. You can no longer bring your own unlimited alcohol. Now it is 2 bottles of wine a a 6 pack of beer for each adult over 21. You can repeat at every port. Anything over this limit, or other alcohol will be held for you until disembarkation day.
You can no longer drop items off with guest services to have signed by characters.
You can now book a placeholder for a future cruise, and not have to book a dummy cruise date. Must be used within 2 years of when you book the placeholder. $250 per placeholder which applies to the deposit when you convert it to an actual cruise. Refundable if not used within the 2 years. Limit 2 placeholders per each home address and must be used on the same cruise.
If you do bingo, I believe Bingo Betty has been retired and replaced with some computerized machine (I think). I'll find out on our next cruise.

Probably more, but that is what came to mind

They do not hold a Gold/Platinum CC reception on cruises shorter than 8 nights.

No more rice crispy treats, water bottles and all other stuff included in the Castaway Club gift. It’s just a sling bag for Silver, plus a luggage tag for Gold. I really miss the rice crispy treats. I had it once only!

This is a depressing thread for a soon-to-be first time cruiser LOL! For what cruises cost now, I'm trying to focus on what IS included. But fun to read some history of the good ole days:)

No more steel drum band, and limited if not done at all "If I Were Not Upon the Sea" skits.

Oh. I think I just remembered.....

Back then you could send out clothes to be pressed for a fee and have it back in 24 hours or less. Is that still a thing? That would help with packing.

You can however ask your stateroom host and they will bring a paper navigator to your room each night. We did this last week. Even the night DS forgot to remove the Room Occupied sign and our room was not made up, he left one on the fish for us. :thumbsup2

And you can also pick them up at Guest Services. They usually had them in the rack or out to pick up.

They also do not have the chest in the room, at least on the Fantasy as of last week. We had a table like what's on the Magic and Wonder. I missed that storage space!

That was a great storage piece. Especially since we had a family of 6 ( even with 2 cabins).

We did the sign the pillow cases etc. and we had the Captain and OH!!!! our most missed "item" we won't see I suppose --- Cruise Director Brent Davies (WE LOVED HIM SO MUCH!!) we had them to sign a picture of the Magic! My girls and I kind of stalked him. :o
