I was thinking of getting a year pass, but as a solo traveller

Do you think this is a good idea, honestly? I live 2 hours away from WDW and would most likely make 10-13 trips while I have the pass. I will be 18 in August and would get the pass In October-November and go at least once a month.

My questions are are these, what are the pros and cons of going solo? Im sure I'll bring someone with me on 2-4 trips, but for the majority on the trips they will be solo. I enjoy photography and when the whole family had year passes I never got enough pictures.

I had 2 year passes at Disneyland California and I had a 1 1 year pass at WDW. I would love again and have a diffrent expenience, but I want it to be fun.

I bought an annual pass for this trip cause I am planning several more trips back before May of 09. This May I went on my first solo/dis meet trip ever and had a ball. met some very nice people, one of who is joining me in August when I return for my Long trip with my son. I am for sure going in early December, that is another solo trip with plans to meet my DIS friends again. Then I will go again in March for a Birthday trip for myself, that trip includes a running event I would like to try to participate in.

The pass already will have paid for itself by the trip in August so no issues there, I am also enjoying some awesome room discounts with it as well. I say go for it.

I second everything Darcy said. I would kill to live within 2 hours.

I got my pass before my Feb trip. Between the room discounts from the Feb and May trip and those days it has already paid for itself. And it will be used at least a couple more trips before Feb. Way worth it.

Best thing I ever did for myself was get that pass.

Go for it!

Living close to WDW isnt as wonderful as one might think. Florida is in a depression and work is hard to find, so gas is expensive, so you keep putting off buying the passes. And it's so tempting. It's like being on a diet but working in a candy shop.

I wish I lived 1 hour away so I would be less expensive, or far away so I wouldnt feel bad for not buying them, lol.

I think I'll get them, but around October-November. I would want November more so I could be there at Christmas time next year too.

I don't feel the pinch of depression so much as I am a nurse, but I do see its effects. People who don't work don't take care of themselves and don't get regular checkups at a doctor. They end up in the hospital gravely ill. . .its sad but true. . .the economic downturn is really taking its toll. . .

So I do understand what you are saying. . .But I think I will forever choose to be a dual passholder. . .WDW and DLR. . .It is a financial decision that has saved me a tremendous amount of money. . .

truly know the effect of the economy with the $$$ but it is not really true about living so far away.. and this gas prices even got me going to FL more often..:furious: :duck: my trucks let me drive 17 miles a gallon... and loves to go fish in NJ... but now it is cheaper for me to go to WDW than go fishing :moped: what is bad is I learn about the DING rates of SWA.. so going back to the topic Annual passes.. have been gettign them since I go 2x a year the least.. but this year.. I have been there every other weekend :faint: since March 29, I was hoping the need would die down after Mother's day... but I was wrong...:cool1: I will be back this weekend...:woohoo: hopefully this is it till September... and if you are wondering how can I afford to go.. I gave up Starbucks 3x a week.. and I gave up eating out... I used to cater... so what I do now is cook a nice meal ones a week and it is much cheaper than going out and it is cooked to my liking... :faint: :stir: things you do to see the mouse!!!

:) I am loving your response...I am so addicted to WDW and seeing how many vacations I can fit into a year that my son has finally figured out I dont see things in dollars anymore....If it is a choice between doing something at home...going out with my friends etc etc....I see it in how many nights at a value resort could I have during off season instead....lol We were looking at something the other day, I dont even remember what it was...and I said No I am not going to buy it because that is 2 nights at a Value resort during slow season......:rotfl2: I used to go out every weekend and hang out with friends, drinking dinner etc and I never left Richmond without having spent a minimum of $120 in a weekend...now I go once a month and save the rest for WDW....::yes::

I know right !!! It is crazy how you have that calculating mode on all the time.... I used to buy shoes and bag 3x a year but now I learn to recycle and save $$$ :duck: :hyper: :stir:

you will be fine solo.

first go over to the meet board and see about joining a meet when you are solo.

secondly go to the Photo board and ask there too.

you can do what YOU want to do!!! if that means taking a nap - then do it!

it is your schedule. you decide. No going to somethng you would rather not because so and so in your party decide it was wonderful.

you get to eat when you want.

own DVC so generally eat in the room. going this year during free dinning, staying at Pop. So you might consider Sept too.

Ok, you said 2 hours from WDW, so I'm assuming you live in FL. Have you considered a Fl Resident Seasonal Pass? It blacks out Christmas to New Years (packed), and couple of weeks in the spring (packed) and about 6-7 weeks in the summer (packed and ridiculously hot). It's also about $150 or so cheaper. (I know I'm a bit off on all the specs, but it's on the info portion of this site)

I usually go with DW, but I have been several times when down that way for business, and have set out to do things on my own while the family does something else. I would say HECK YA!

FL ressie with AP too and its sooo worth it! Priceline a 3star hotel for like $30 and you've got yourself a great weeknd. You'll love it.

Well if it would be cheaper yes If I were there I would.

Agreed with everything that has been said before

Going alone to Disney has many pros ---you can use single rider lines and get on rides when they need just one extra person (My brother and I did that a few years ago when Test Track had just opened and we went on it like 4 times in a short period of time)

You can get food and snacks when you want to without consulting other people

You can meet the characters and do everything you have always wanted to do but don't want to be judged (even an 18 year old can meet the princesses...)

And you can be free to go on whichever rides you choose and you don't have to deal with people complaining that they have to wait in line for a ride that you want to go on and they don't!
