I was supposed to run 15 miles today

Here I sit reading Disboards instead of heading out for my 15 mile run. I had this little tickle yesterday at work and tiny little coughs. As the night went on I was concerned the coughs were getting worse. I woke up this morning throat sore and chest SUPER tight. Had coffee get hoping for the best but the longer i was up the worse i was feeling. I have a very slight fever but since this is sitting in my chest like a ton of bricks i think it best to scrap the 15 miles.

The original plan was to do the 15 on Sunday but the weather is supposed to be severe so figured no big deal to do them today. Stupid cold. Hoping if I lay low today I will feel better soon and I can get those 15 in on Christmas.

Hoping for quick recovery and a cough that does not last 6 weeks like usual.

Everyone else, please have a good run. I know most are doing last long runs before the taper. Be careful out there.

I find three mornings special for a long run...

- Thanksgiving - the turkey is in the oven and most all are still in bed. I slip on the running shoes and head out for a 90 minute run or so.

- Christmas Morning - Granted I am an empty nester so kiddos are not a concern and I attend services the night prior so the morning is mine. The air always seems so fresh and the morning so clear. As the sun rises you start to hear the subdivision/town come to life as the Christmas lights fade into the morning light.

- New Year's Morning - I used to have a couple of neighbors who would celebrate the new year rather noisily and well past midnight. It was fun to get out and let them know I was out for my first run of the year. The streets are kind of a mess as I make the run; littered with fireworks and celebration debris from the night before.

I love these three mornings.

Coach - waxing poetic this morning who also had life get in front of his Saturday AM run.

I too was supposed to run this morning but woke up sick. I'm suppose to do 10, and I still may, but going to see how I feel later this afternoon as we have lunch plans with my old college roommate from out of town.

I like to run on the "eve's". Night before thanksgiving, Christmas Eve morning, and New Year's Eve morning. There's something about running on the last day of the year (before any festivities) that motivates me to push just a little further and reflect on my running throughout the year.

I'm not an empty nester, so Christmas morning is totally out of the question! Lol.

Feel better! I've been down with a cold since Wednesday. I check my resting HR every morning, and so when it's up in the 60s and normal is 48-50 I know I'm out. I'm supposed to have a 3:15 run tomorrow (my coach generally gives me workouts by time, not distance), but there's no way. And I'm really bummed because I'm not going to be able to sing at the Solstice service at my church this evening - I sound like a frog! Hopefully I'll be able to get in the 3:15 on Monday or Tuesday. That long a run is not going to happen on Christmas. I just have to keep telling myself my base is good, it's better to be a little undertrained than overtrained, let myself get better or I could make myself sicker for longer. All the same advice I've given others, but it's frustrating to have to take it myself.

And, hydrate!

I know that feeling!

Best to get better...we only have a few weeks before it starts. Get it over with and do what you can with you have left time wise. I want to do 10 miles tomorrow.

I was going to run 16. Got up at 5:15, drove 20 minutes to some plowed trails. Went to lay out the water and realized the trail was a sheet of ice. Drive 20 minutes home and Wendy back to sleep.

Want to encourage runners headed to Central FL to get the flu shots. The H1N1 virus is in the area and is knocking folks down like a ton of bricks.

Need some advice. I am pretty sure I have the flu. I don't think I will get 15 in on Xmas. Looking for any suggestions. I guess at this point I a, better off scrapping the running this week to get healthy.

Rest until you're past it. Better than running & possibly getting sicker.

Well I am in your boat. I wanted to do 10 miles today and did 2. Have a sinus headache which always happens when the temps change...it became suddenly warm here which is not normal.

I am going to bed.

As frustrating as it is, you've got to scrap it. I'm hoping I don't lose the window to get a last long run in. I've definitely turned a corner, but I'm guessing tomorrow is out. I'm wishfully hoping for Tuesday.

Feel better! I too have been out for a week. I don't think it's the flu because I haven't been running a fever, but I've just been so so sick. I was starting to feel a bit better today so I tried to go out - not so much. Made it about a half mile, started hacking up a lung, and then turned around and went home. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body, as frustrating as it is

THANK YOU! :rotfl:

I keep forgetting (I usually do it in September!), but I just made an appointment for tomorrow morning as soon as I read this!

Hope the others who are sick are feeling better. I managed to break the fever today! I went to the dr and he confirmed the flu, though that was easy I knew that Saturday night but not in the morning when i first posted. I definitely feel a lot better than the weekend but i am exhausted. Thankfully work will be slow and I will stay home all week. Am hoping tomorrow i feel good enough to walk dogs.
