Yesterday a.m. I was rear ended by a purolator delivery truck. He was stopped behind me at a red light, when the light changed he accelerated to go but didn't wait for traffic ahead of us. The impact was strong but not what I would call severe.

I've made all the necessary calls to insurance etc and have had my vehicle inspected by the Body Shop. My quetsion is regarding me personally. I was not seriously injured...but I do have sore neck and shoulders my left arm is very numb and I have reduced use in it. My back hurts and I have severe headaches. My injuries do not require a lawsuit, there is no big pay off...here in the province I live there are actually clear rules regarding that.

I am not looking to profit from this but how do I make sure I am compensated for the things I must now have someone else do for me. The insurance company is being very coy in their questions and comments and I am not quite sure what or how to respond. They say since I don't work outside of the home there really isn't any compensation due to me....I tried to explain that my ds has a number of issues that make frequent Dr's appt's etc necessary with each of his 3 doctors. She said something about there's no claim for being a mom....something doesn't seem right.

I am hoping the pain I am in now is muscle and will go away quickly...I don't have the luxury of not being mobile. But what if it takes longer....Does anyone know if there is an impartial board or someone that can give me advice?

Do you see a Chiropractor? My DH is one and has patients from auto accidents come in quite frequently. The majority of the time it is the insurance that pays the bill for the care. I would check into one if you do not see a Chiropractor already.

As far as you getting money, I don't know anything about that. I hope you feel better soon. :)

Sorry to hear about your accident. I know nothing about Canadian law or insurance but I hope you find answers to your questions.

Feel better soon.

She's either never been in a wreck or she's never been a mom.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. I hope you get some answers soon too.

Thanks for your well wishes....I've never been to a chiropractor before but it may be worth a try. I see my GP today and I'll go from there.....I just hope whatever it is gets better soon.

Sadly enough you will probably need a lawyer. The company is going to try to get our of paying anything they can. Sounds like you need someone who understands the system and is not going to let them take advantage of you. Good Luck!

So I'm guessing you didn't go to the ER at the time of the accident. Is there a police report? Kind of hard to prove anything after the fact. Hope you're feeling better soon!

There is a police report and the ambulance was called...they said a trip to the ER wasn't necessary that I could follow up with my GP.

There's nothing to prove...he's admitted fault. I'm grateful to not have that battle.

Goodluck. I'd get to the doctor as soon as you can, and get a lawyer.

My h had an accident on his motorcycle. It was in no way his fault. His bike was really messed up and he didn't look that good afterwards either. Thank goodness for military boots, they saved his ankle and foot. He was ok other than scrapes and bruises.

The insurance company of the man that caused the whole thing offered us $100 total. We didn't sign it. We got some help and they ended up paying for a new bike, helmet and transportation of it.
He had no medical bills since he was in the army.

My point is that you need to be careful and don't let them offer you nothing and expect you to be grateful about it.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I also leave in Ontario and was rear ended last fall when I was on an expressway. I would visit your family doctor to get checked out; to see if your aches and pains were a result of your accident. My arm was in a small bit of pain after my accident; but went away after a couple of days. I should have went to my doctor in case anything was more serious. Being rear ended the other driver is 100% af fault (no fault caculation). Both my insurance company and the other driver's company one of the first questions they asked if there were any personal injureies to my self or any pasengers. Did you take the car to the Collision Reporting Center.

 hope you feel better soon!

I've been to my Dr and he has given me some meds and is sending me for Physiotherapy. He says my injuries are mostly muscular and should heal shortly. The insurance company is sending me forms to have filled out.

Apparently now I can make a claim for accident benefits....in this area you can't claim or sue for pain and suffering unless your injury is permanent and disabling. But I can make a claim for out of pocket expenses, physio and for help with housekeeping etc while I am unable to do it. There would also be provisions made if I had to have someone drive my ds to his appointments, which I don't think I need.

CDNDISNEYNUT, I didn't have to take the car to the reporting center because the cop came to us. My insurance company just gave me the name of their approved center which happens to be here in New Hamburg and is the dealer I lease the vehicle from.

Again, thanks everyone for your well wishes.
