I was Born A Cole Miner's Daughter....

that was an interesting page Dan thanks :)

What I found really interesting though is that were no statistics on the after affects of mining on these peoples health.

My Uncle, and everyone I knew who worked with him, had breathing problems many emphysema and died from it. This is a dangerous but necessary industry. I fully agree with the poster who said there ought to be a better way.

Unfreakinbelievable!!!!!!! I thought the intent of this tread was to send prayers and well wishes to those families affected by this tragedy, not which state has the largest mine, safety records and how much money they make. Geeze people start a new thread to discuss the damned wages and dangers associated with mining!!!!!!!

Anyway....
From one coal miner's daughter (grandddaughter, and niece)....my condolences to those families who lost loved ones at the Sago Mine.

I wasn't born a coal miner's daughter, but my Daddy has driven a coal truck as a summer job when he wasn't teaching. I am from a true coal mining community. My little corner of Virginia is within spitting distance of WV and KY. Everyone here has family in the coal industry. The footage that is being shown looks like my home. I can relate to these people and I hope they get some answers.

Caradana, coal mining does pay much better than the jobs that most men could get in this area. Of course now there aren't nearly as many positions as in years past due to mechanization. I would say that $50,000 is an average guess. Of course bosses and managers can make much more.

We love traveling through West Virginia-we had a special intention today at church for the grieving families and we will also this weekend.

I just heard the survivor Randy? just squeezed his wifes hand responding to her. I saw her a lot of tv before they found her husband, I'm glad her husband got out, but I feel sorrowful for the other 12.

Someone asked where this happened in West Virginia-someone posted somewhere on here a map-the 1st thing I thought was located in a very hard to reach area. It is located in the Northeastern part of the state.

It happened in Upshur County, I think this is about 100 miles NE of Charleston.
