...and they had signs up by the cash register saying they were closing on Friday. They said they thought all Disney stores around the country were closing too, and they just found out about it themselves after Christmas!

It was such a sad atmosphere!! I tried to buy a few last Disney Dollars but they were out. :( The CM said Wal Mart purchased 50% of their stock so we'll start seeing a lot of merchandise normally found at the Disney Store in Wal Mart now.

So have you checked your local Disney store lately and is it closing too?

I was in ours the other day and no signs of it closing. Gee, I just really hope thats not true. How sad and I really hate Walmart in general.

Oh no! Our Disney Store is in Downtown Columbus. I rarely get there.
We did go before the holidays and I got a few gifts for the kids.
It wouldn't surprise me if that one closed, too.

We were just in there tonight to buy a park hopper for DH and they weren't closing. Business was hopping with that sale and I used my Disney Club Card one last time. *sniff*

I was there the day after Christmas   (actually 2 of them) and no sign either of closing, just after Christmas sales.

pretty sure mine isn't closing.

2 near me have closed w/in the last couple of yrs.

Only 1 left, was open as of last Sat.

As sad as it is, yes our Jackson store closed a few months ago with less than a weeks notice. It was like they were there one day and gone the next. She also mentioned that she was under the impression that all stores would be closed by the end of next year.

One good point then we would have to make more trips to World of Disney!!!!

Honestly though ours had gotten really bad anyway, no more snowglobes or toys just tons of kiddy stuff but really nothing for adults.

I hope mine isn't closing. I was there on Monday and the shelves looked kinda bare. I was just thinking that they were getting rid of old stuff and then adding new things for the new year. I didn't even think of asking if they were closing.

One of ours was just remodeled and the other has added a lot of new things. I was just in one yesterday, no signs of it closing!

lisa as far as i know the ds in Columbus is safe. I was there just Mon. and CM said nothing of closing and told me of new stuff they were expecting.

then this Sunday after Christmas it was gone. Had a sign that the closest store is in Asheville, NC. That is in the next state. Made me so sad.

I am going to the mall tomorrow; I will check out ours. What I saw pre-Christmas, ours was sooooo busy, I doubt that it will close. I hope not; it is part of my Disney-fix I need.

Just because it looks busy doesn't mean it's busy enough they won't close it. The one closest to me was one of 3 in our metro area and the only one on the northern end of town. We were there one week and then 5 days later went back and it was closed. No announcement no "We're closing" sales, no nothing. This was in January 2003.

Whenever we were there, especially on the weekend, there were always shoppers. It shocked us, especially because of it's location. It was only 12 minutes from our house. Now the only one near us is at MOA and we have to drive minimum 30 minutes just to get there one way.

needless to say, we don't go often any more.

Byrd you had me scared when I saw Asheville in the post. Hopefully that means the Asheville store is safe, for a while anyway.

I just worked at ours yesterday, and there was no sign that we were closing! However, the store in Springfield, IL (90 minutes away) closed the day after Christmas. :(

I shopped at the Disney Store several times before Christmas and it was always busy. They got adult clothing back in the store and was really nice again. :(

Even if Wal Mart starts carrying more Disney items it just won't be the same as knowing it came from the Disney Store.

A good deal of stores closed on Dec 26 and everything concerning the other stores is 'pending' as far as we know it. Some may close, some may not. I think they will keep it but pare it down a bit more in terms of numbers of stores. It would be nice if they could then swing back into selling more collector or adult oriented items.

Walmart already has a liscense to sell Disney themed merchandise (as does pretty much everyone else) and there was always a 'crossover' on some merchandise. Others were Disney Store exclusives.

Not to mention all the things we've got at the Disney Stores around us last forever - the clothes we've gotten at Walmart don't last very long.

Oh, no! I hope our store doesn't close!! It's an hour away, but I was close be there tonight!! Wish I had seen this thread earlier so I could have stopped by while in the area!! Oh well!! Sad news though!!:(
