I was told that I could only upgrade my 4 day hopper to a AP within seven days. So I emailed WDW before my trip and was told it was possible, but there were a few variables to determining the cost and if they could actually do it. The email basically was a nice way to say no.

I bought a AP for myself on my Xmas trip of 2003. My mother at the time only bought a four day hopper because she did not think she would be able to get down again. But, she was wrong. So we figured if possible to upgrade to a AP.

On our first day we went to Guest Relations at Epcot. I told him the story and he said it had to be within seven days. I then said I had a email from WDW. This email basically said it that they could not do it, but I gave it a try anyways. He took the email and glanced it over. He probably noticed the name of the person who emailed me. Then the answer was yes. We just had to pay $172. He then gave us the, "well I'll do this time only," which means it happens all the time. We were going to buy another hopper anyways if we could'nt do it. So we saved a bunch of money and we went everyday. Just goes to show you what a email will do.

Your information is a little sketchy but the 7 day rule only applies if you are looking to apply the entire amount you paid for the PH towards the higher pass. After the 7 day window goes by, you can then apply the dollar value of the unused admissions towards the new ticket.

Disney terms are somewhat confusing. To a Disney CM, upgrading means you are applying the entire cost price of the ticket. This can only be done within 7 days of first use. It is not a policy that is overriden for everyone. When he said they'd only do it that time, that's exactly what was meant.

Just wondering...did he back date the AP so it expires in December 2004?

I'll try not to use the word upgrade.

But, I had a 4 day hopper from December 2003. All days were USED up. Went to guest relation's, asked him if it was possible to upgrade (sorry) to a AP. He said no only within seven days. Then I gave him my copy of the email that I got from WDW. There is no chance he read the entire thing because he gave it back to me in ten seconds. It then turned into "let me see what I can do." I gave him the hopper and he scanned it in. He then told me it would expire Dec. 2003 and it would cost me about $172. I jumped at that offer. He then gave us our new ticket(AP) and on the back of it says it does not expire until Feb. 2005.

We are talking about WDW here not the local General Store. There going to try and do what ever they can to make you happy. They know how much a AP holder usually spends in a park. So if they bite a few dollars, they know you will just spend it on somthing else. I would have to say stuff like this happens everyday.

You may think it does but something like your situation does not. Disney is very strict about it especially where you have a completely used up ticket from two months prior.

Don't you think that if this happened all the time, it would be all over these boards and the internet in general? People would be telling you "don't worry what Disney says, they'll do it anyway". But that's not the case. And there's a reason for that.

I am very happy that your situation worked out for you. You not only got around the policy but got the expiration date of the AP changed as well. You did good. But you are under a very big misconception if you think what you had happen to you is done for people all the time.

YMMV
