This weekend was "employee shopping days" where I work. I figured for once I'd get a jump on my shopping, put some things on layaway and make payments until Christmas on one particular big-ticket item. But when I got to the store, the one thing I was certain that I wanted to get was out of stock. I was so bummed I couldn't shop for anything else. The clerk said no one (of 40 stores in our company I guess) has Playstation 2 (or X-Box for that matter) in stock, not even the super discount chain competitor down the road had it. I called another local store when I got home to confirm the lack of stock and the clerk verified and said they expected a shipment near the end of October. I was still depressed, but at least it's not an item I missed saving any extra money (it's not eligible for store discount), and the price is the same everywhere.
Then I went online at walmart.com and bestbuy.com and found out why the PS2 is not currently in stock anywhere ... neither of them had PS2 in stock either ... a new model is coming out at the beginning of November. Whew! Its a slimmer console than the current model, not sure how much the internals have been upgraded. The only other good news is that the price appears to be the same.
I didn't come home emptied handed after spedning an hour trying on clothes that either didn't fit or were no longer available in a size I needed. I did buy DD a winter jacket. I got a great deal on a South Pole down/feather jacket (it's washable). The regular price is $68, I paid less than $40. It might be a Christmas present, depending on how early it gets cold enough to warrant it.
