Hey guys,

If this is the wrong place, feel free to move it. Anyway, I think I've finally been bitten by the pin collecting bug but where do I start?!

If anyone has tips or recommendations on how to start my very own pin collection please let know :thumbsup2

You guys are the best and I have become addicted to this amazing site big time!

Stu

Well, you may want to start by checking out some of the pins on Ebay. You can usually pick up some to trade on that site without spending a fortune.

oo yeah...I forgot to say I'll be in WDW in just over a week, does anyone know of limited pins there might be around this time of year?!

P.S. I'll be on Ebay for sure :woohoo:

I bought a few pins for my daughters while we were in WDW in '05 to get them started. Little did I know that I would get hooked myself. I have friends here in Delaware that I must force myself to stay away from because it is almost an addiction. Very good friends of our, Chris and Angie, have a collection of almost 1000 pins.

I need to get help.................

DON'T START!! It's an expensive addiction that once you start, you just can't stop. Before you know it you're obsessed with getting all the hidden mickeys you can find or all the tinkerbell pins or all the poohs or all the olympic pins and then all your "ors" become "ands" and then you have to worry about taking the "big suitcase" to fit all your pins and only a few clothes to make sure that the suitcase doesn't go over the weight limit....

My name's Alyssa810 and my DH and I are pin trading addicts. And we're bringing our DS into the addiction too.

oops i think it's too late! Does spending three hours on ebay count as the beginings of the addiction?! I already need those fastpass pins...I don't know much more about them but wow I WANT THEM SO MUCH ALREADY I've seen a Star Tours one and a Peter Pans Flight one....both with the hidden mickey...are they still on sale at WDW do you know or will I have to go searching for them?!
I got my very first pin last night too (so happy...and to think for years I never knew what all the bother was about) I had to start with Mickey, so it's a Mickey sitting inside the Disney D...I think it's from Disneyland Paris but that's ok! I've now got pin money set aside as well...oh dear, I am addicted lol

I had been doing some ebay surfing myself. Trying also to get my DH interested, makes explaining spending money on things much easier if you can get support in the addiction.

I did see a link from another poster that has www.mousepinsonline.com

Happy hunting, wishing you wonderful deals!

Heeey

Thanks for everyone advice, I'm afraid I'm now an addict but that's ok...It's disney and I've always been addicted to that so I see it as just carrying on my love affair!

Anyway to stop myself going crazy I'm going to go for Resort Pins and HOPEFULLY the fastpass pins with the hidden mickey...so here's hoping! Any others I buy this time round will be for trading...

CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER I REALLY REALLY CANT! WOOHOO :goodvibes

I just meet a woman at my son's soccer game last night... her dog had on a disney collar so of COURSE I had to mention it. Turns out she is a DVC owner like me and a pin addict also. She told me that a great place to pick up pins for trading is at the Disney Outlet store in Orlando. I haven't been there, but she said it is near the Dixie Stampede?? Here's hoping. Good luck.

Another vote for NOT DOING IT! It is an expensive road. My two girls are addicted to pin collecting. My advice is to pick 1 or 2 characters or themes (ie Tinkerbell, Pluto, Christmas, 4th of July), and try to stick with those. Otherwise, the habit can get out of control.

Good luck
Diane

Hi,

You should make your pin collecting, "a collection." Pick your favorite character or movie, etc., although, I've heard the ones with hidden Mickey's are/will be worth more.

I started a collection for each of my children... I have 5 kids :yay: so I get to buy a lot of pins. :yay:

I collect something different for each of them... the princesses, Pooh characters, ride pins, etc., but I also buy them one on each trip, to mark something special about that trip. This year, one DS was chosen for the Jedi Tranning Academy, so he got a pin with that on it. Other DS was tall enough for Space Mountain, so he got a SM pin.

If you have the time there are great outlet stores in the Orlando area that have a lot of great "offical" Disney stuff. The stores are actual Disney stores off property and sometimes even have the same stuff in the Disney stores, but at a lot less of the price. They have a decent collection of pins and lanyards, and the employees at the store even have lanyards to trade there. Thats my suggestion for getting some inital pins, and other souvenirs.

Thanks for the link :cool1:

It can certainly be an expensive addiction, but there are many ways to get pins for free. Check out the cast member managers (wear a different uniform) some of them carry pins in a small bag in their pocket and will often 'donate' a pin to your collection if asked nicely!

:thumbsup2

Here's a pic of my first disney pins EVER!!! They came today...
