i would like to ride the monorail on our first day at disney (we are not doing the parks the first day). how would be best to do this. we are staying at the pop century.
Take the Epcot bus from Pop, then hop on the Epcot monorail to TTC. Then, if you like, catch the resort monrail at TTC, and explore the monorail resorts. Lastly, get off at MK, then catch the Pop bus to return to the resort.
The main reason I say Epcot first is you stand a good chance of riding in the front cab. Its' a much better view up there.

The Epcot/TTC ride is fun, but there isn't much to see.
We personally like to take the bus to MK then grab the resort monorail. We try to get the front cab, but you never know. We like to get off at each resort and shop/eat/walk around. We do this at each resort until getting all the way back to MK. Once back to MK, we take the bus back to your resort. This is our first day ritual and best of all, it is FREE!
The hardest thing is trying to explain to your little ones (if you have any) that you are not going in to MK that day. They hear the music and see the fun and want to go NOW! We always explain we will be there soon and the monorail is so much fun!
Don't forget the day you visit the Magic Kingdom you should also ride the Resort Monorail and it will also give you a chance to visit the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian.
Since I go the weekend of Thanksgiving weekend through the first week in December, I do the MK trip and visit all the resorts on the loop, since they are decorated for Xmas. I do the loop one more time, and get off at TTC and you are right at Epcot!
Do you mean you are right where you can get the monorail to Epcot? The TTC is located across the lagoon from the MK and next to that park's parking lots; it's nowhere near Epcot.
