...I feel weird having someone looking at my feet. ;)

I'm going for my first one next month...my best friend is taking me because I feel the same way. She says where she goes is wonderful and I will love it...I don't know though...first of all my feet are soooooooooo ticklish. I'm going to go for it though. I figure it may be easier to go with someone so...we have a girls day next month.

DO NOT.....I REPEAT....DO NOT BE AS STUPID AS I WAS!!!! I didn't have my first pedicure until I was in my 30's..for the same reason. I didn't want someone touching my ugly, rhino hoof toes!! WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! Now I get one once a month....I could care less who touches my feet as long as they get the job done and it feels GOOD!!! I've had pedicures all over the states....chi chi spas to mom and pop establishments and LOVE it! Once you break the ice.....it is wonderful! The main thing to remember is how sanitary it all is....they soak your feet for a while before they start to work on them and really it is pretty impersonal. Relaxing and lovely...I'd do it anytime...anywhere!

That's what I've heard, that it's like Heaven once you bite the bullet and do it. I think I'm going to get my mom a pedicure gift certificate for Mother's Day and then we can go together. If we both have ugly feet, it won't seem as weird.;)

I've been wanting to get one, but always find myself spending money on other things:rolleyes:

I've always wanted one but I am waaay to ticklish to have someone touching me feet.

I've got an appointment next Friday for my first one ever and I'm 45. I'm a little worried because I really can't stand having my feet touched....everyone swears it will be fine. I'm not ticklish...I just don't like it. Here's hoping I survive it. Now manicures and facials I could do all day!

Once you start having pedicures you will NEVER stop, trust me. ;)

I get them year-round (started a few years ago) and my feet look and FEEL so much better. I would never give them up.

And no matter how bad you think your feet look I'm SURE your pedicurist has seen worse.

Enjoy! :)

I've had several over the years, which isn't really many, because I am 45. But I had one just last night! My DD is 15 and is, at this very moment, at her Sophomore semiformal :teeth: so I sprung for a manicure/pedicure for her, and figured...why should I hang out just waiting for her when I can be enjoying one myself? I guarantee you, I'm going to keep getting them, at least throughout the summer. It's WONDERFUL!! And yes, I had to fight back a ticklish giggle or two, and I was wondering how DD would survive it (she had her manicure first, then ped, and I had my ped first)...she did giggle out loud! :teeth:

So am I! LOL But for my wedding I decided I had to get one and I needed to just suck it up. So I did, and I warned the girl ahead of time that I was ticklish. Everything she did tickled

and I sat there and giggled :rotfl: But it looked great....I could do it again if I had to. Laughter is healthy right?

Sherry I am the same way but they dont really end up tickling to much. They are great. I always get the spa pedicure so I can soak awhile and have my legs and feet massaged. Its great!

I'm one that does NOT enjoy pedicures. I've had them before, I tried to like it, I just don't. My mom SWEARS by them, but I can't stand them.

I do my own at home to keep my feet looking pretty =) Its not that I dont want anyone seeing them, it just didn't feel good to me... I dont like people touching my feet, its not luxury to me...

Give it a whirl and see how you like it! Remember, they see feet ALL day long and think nothing of it! =)

I'm 13 and I've had a couple, I was pretty nervous my first one I got with a spa gift certificate I won because I am sooo ticklish but it wasn't bad at all! My mom and sister went with me and we all got them, and loved them! Now all 3 of us go together once every couple of monthes, and love it!!

Hey, a thread that is right up my alley, LOL....I am a manicurist. I am going to be completely honest with you all, as I have nothing to gain...none of you are potential clients.....most of you are very far from my place of work....

Please do not feel insecure about your feet or be 'weirded out' about a professional touching your feet. It is not at all wierd for a professional. It should be comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable for you!

First of all, almost the first words out of EVERY client who comes in for a pedicure is "I hate my feet, I am nervous about someone touching or seeing them." (for some reason, people are very self-conscious about their feet!) Every single time, they are wrong and have perfctly lovely feet. Seriously, I have never had a client under the age of 70 that has "bad feet". And in the elderly, most foot problems are due to illness, poor circulation and/or medication. Most of the time, they get over the anxiety very quickly.

I find that people who have ticklish feet need a firmer touch during the massage and a towel between my hands and their toes during clipping, filing and polishing to overcome the ticklishness. I have NEVER had a ticklish client who had a problem beyond the first 2-3 minutes of the pedicure. They usually refer me to anyone they know who has expressed a 'tickle' problem.

I love giving pedicures because they are so appreciated and it is really easy to do a better job than most people could do on themselves (only because I can reach their toes with MUCH more ease than they can) Heck, it is hard to properly pedicure my own feet!

Also, I have a few elderly clients who literally cannot care for their feet due to illness or mobility problems...I get the satisfaction that I really am making them feel better.

Please, if you have a nail "fungus" (usually noted by one or more toe nails that are soft, peeling, discolored and/or flaky), be prepared to be turned away. This is not personal and NOT due to bad hygiene...it is an infection that is contagious. We simply cannot work on your feet until they are cured, by prescribed oral medication (OTC ointments and oils do NOT work). This also is applicable to athletes feet. We cannot risk infecting other clients (and ourselves). So please, if you are in doubt about something, tell the tech and ask them to examine any areas of concern first, before you start soaking. (I am only mentioning this because many people think a pedicure will fix the problem and are unaware that they need to see a doctor).

Also, mention if you have any illnesses that affect the circulatory system, like diabetes or a history of deep vein thrombosis. This is important to know because of the foot/leg massage involved. You CAN still get a pedicure, but not be massaged.

Also, NEVER allow anyone to use a 'cheese grater' type of metal implement to get rid of your callouses. This is NOT safe and can cause serious feet problems and even infection. There is a reason you have callouses on your feet. They protect your feet. We can greatly improve the softness of your feet, but you should never remove all of the callous. Not all of that 'hard' skin is dead...not ALL of it should be removed.

If anyone has any questions about what to expect, let me know.

Sorry such a long post...Now I realize I have written a novel...LOL
