When flights from the east coast of Australia to orlando cost $2000+, how do you manage the 'I want to do everything' problem. So many advice pages say not to worry, save it for the next trip. Not so easy when flights are that long and expensive.

I want to do wdw, the water parks, universal, other theme parks, cruise, shop and see some of Florida too! I have no idea how long that will all take but it seems like the problem is worse in the orlando/Florida area than other countries/regions I have visited.

It's frustrating isn't it, you should be able to achieve most of that in 3-4 very busy weeks depending on how long you want to cruise for.

It is so stinking hard to do everything and I only get to LA and find it hard to take myself away for a day from disneyland to go shopping.

I highly suggest that you plan every day of your trip. Book in non-disney days. I hate the feeling of not being in the parks when I could be. If I was you I would treat your trip like 3 different holidays (but of course all in one). I would have the "cruise holiday" the "Florida holiday" which would include Universal, shopping, seaworld and sight seeing, and the most important part of the holiday would be the "disney holiday". Then I wouldn't feel that I should be at Disney instead of shopping. lol Does that make sense. I would do 1 week cruise, 1 week florida and 2 weeks Disney. But that's just me lol

There's a fine line between making the most of your long and expensive flights, and making the holiday stressful and over-budget. I find it easier to come to terms with the fact that I won't get to do everything, prioritise what I do want to do, and leave enough time and budget to really enjoy doing those things. Some of the things I've enjoyed the most on my travels have been an unplanned walk or scenic detour that we wouldn't have had time for if we had tried to fit everything in.

I agree with the others that it will be a very busy 3-4 weeks to fit all of that in. I would probably start with sight-seeing/shopping in Florida, and finish up the trip with WDW area theme parks. You could use the cruise as a bit of downtime in between two very busy sections.

FWIW you should be able to get flights for less than $2000 from the east coast.

I know this feeling very well. I am heading over in nov from the 6-20 and my days are jammed packed and I wouldn't do it any other way.

I have spilt my holiday into 3 parts
1. Cruise/Miami
2. Universal
3. Disneyworld

I know this will be my last trip over to do all this so I am seeing everything I can and I am planned down to the tiniest detail.

Fully understand your feelings, however, it also depends on how you like your holidays. I have never understood how people move hotels every 1 -2 days, across an entire month so that they can 'fit' everything in. I just cannot enjoy that type of holiday. It takes away from actually immersion of where you are. But some love it. They fit both east and west coast, cruises, all sorts of things into one trip. Move hotels all the time !

So it's hard to others to suggest. IMHO, you can fit everything on your list, 5 - 6 weeks trip. If you like commando trips, that's great, you can squeeze it in. Just note, that moving hotels pretty much takes up at least half a day either side, people dont factor that in.

I friends that say they are spending two nights somewhere, which is one full day, not two, as you have to check in, and check out. i think that is why people would suggest you pick your must sees, or extend the trip. As the airfare is high, i always extend the time away, as and extra week or so is much cheaper than another flight.
But still, we never seem to have enough time, its just too much fun. We rarely stop anywhere for less than 3 mights, unless absolutely necessary during a road trip.

Thanks everyone, it is reassuring to know it is not just me. I would not be able to get more than 3-4 weeks travel in due to the fact that is would be harder to get longer than that off work (remembering travel time for long distances and that I really should have a few days jet lag recovery before trying to work). Good to know that I could pack in at least most of my plans in that time. I am thinking that maybe if I do a 7 day cruise and use that as forced relaxation and recharge time (if I can resist trying to do everything on the cruise boat too) then I may be able to travel hard. I like to pack my days full but not move hotels too often because of the time this takes up and the annoyance of repacking often. I love that on a cruise you just unpack once!

Will get back to planning (and dreaming) now!

We try and do everything!

This trip is

5 nights Universal Orlando
8 nights WDW
7 night cruise
7 nights undecided (maybe fly by the seat of our pants)
4 nights Disneyland

So maybe not doing everything, but having a red hot go :thumbsup2
