Getting ready to leave for Disney in less than 20 days and I found out I have a hole in my foundation, and today my AC stopped working. I am now stressed about paying for everything. If it wasn't to late to cancel I would, but I didn't get the trip insurance so I am having to go. I am still looking forward to it, but have no idea what I am going to do. I guess just take it one day at a time.

Have fun and relax. I have been crying all day today. Just stress. No vacation for us this year for the first time ever and I am being a baby about it. This is normally our Disney week. :worried: I am trying to make the best of it now but the kids are driving me crazy. And fighting with dh just a bad day all around.

I've been listening to Bruno mars Treasure to try to cheer myself up.

 Sorry all this is happening for you. I see you are taking your daughter. Try to enjoy yourself and make some memories. The problems will still be there and hopefully this break will help you figure out how best to handle them. Trust me, I know all about major problems right before (or after) a long awaited trip.

Can I cry with you?
Just found out I got a second red light camera ticket (to the tune of $85 each.....). I guess I'm glad our state tax refund check came in the mail the other day. :(
Hopefully things will work out for you!

OP, you can live without A/C - yeah, it definitely wouldn't be fun - but it is possible! At least after you get home from Disney...in the summer... the heat won't seem so bad! HAHA

But really, just think of the $$$ you'll save on your power bill!

Get a lawn sprinkler and make the most of the rest of summer! :rotfl:

And as far as the hole in the foundation, check with your homeowners and see if it is something that might be covered! It it is something small, patch it up - if it's something big, make it a project at the top of your list. You can't do it all at the same time - there is always a Home Equity Line of Credit if you need it and have equity in your home! Keeping it standing is your top priority! :wizard:

Oh, and don't cry - LAUGH! It is far better for you, and it won't make your eyes are salty and crusty!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. I hope you can relax and enjoy your upcoming vacation. Best of wishes to you.

Sorry to hear. I am not sure if trip insurance would have helped. The trip insurance I have bought needs a letter from a doctor etc. Good to have in those cases but it might have been money spent that wouldn't have helped you out. Stress as little as possible and go enjoy yourself!!

OP, I feel your pain. It never fails, every time I book a vacation and it can only be for a weekend, something always happens that I have to spend money stretching the vacation budget thin.... but it always works out in the end.
At least for one week, you will have no worries or cares when your in Disney, as soon as I go under the Walt Disney world sign, all my troubles disappear

Sorry to hear your having a bad day. I had a flat tire a couple of weeks ago, and of course I couldn't just replace 1. $550 later, 5 weeks before vacation. It's always something when you least expect it. Go enjoy your trip and try to relax.:flower3:

Awww, sorry :(. Try not to let it spoil your trip! The foundation and a/c may be expensive , but keep in mind that your trip memories are priceless! Wishing you lots of pixiedust:

Vacation is a time to put real life issues on pause.

Just ignore them and enjoy you time away.

Your troubles and worries will still be there when you get back and then you can deal with them.

Wish you the bestest trip ever

We have a September reservation in a 2br unit at Beach Club and probably can't go.

We are restoring an old house. All new electrical, plumbing, HVAC, addition, 3 stall garage. We have a construction loan, but are paying for things out of pocket as well. We won't be done before September, so are probably cancelling our trip.

Life happens and we have to make choices. You already have a trip paid for, go enjoy it!

I'm so sorry! When we were buying a house a few years ago it had cracks in the foundation and it turned out not to be a big deal...there was some epoxy stuff they sprayed into the crack. No big deal...hoping same for you! I say go enjoy ur trip!

Do you realize that Disney's cancellation policy allows you to cancel between 44-6 days prior to your expected arrival and you will get all but $100 back?

If your finances are stretched that thin and your vacation money would help to reduce your stress, then you might want to cancel this trip. I know that it sucks to do it but the adult thing to do would be to take care of you house first.

Airfare is more problematic. Also, if she didn't book through Disney, but is using a DVC rental or a room from Expedia or Hotwire or something else, those have much more difficult cancellation policies.

And frankly, significant foundation issues plus the AC going out are not something that its a simple matter of being "thin" on. I don't think many of us could manage to pay out of pocket for both of those at the same time - that's an emergency fund drainer, plus a savings drainer.

I understand where you're coming from regarding canceling, but the OP had said "If it wasn't to late to cancel I would, but I didn't get the trip insurance so I am having to go." I was letting her know that Disney's cancellation policy is pretty lenient. I remember the OP posting that she has a package at AoA, so she isn't renting DVC points. Now, the airfare can be another story but most airlines will charge a cancellation fee that comes out of what you already paid and then you get a credit for the rest. If she's booked on Southwest, she doesn't even have a cancellation fee.

I'm somewhat confused by your second paragraph. Are you saying that since it will probably cost a huge amount of money to fix the foundation and AC, that the OP should just figure "Screw it! I'm going to Disney and I'll worry about how to pay for those things when I get back!"? I guess I'm the type who would not enjoy my vacation knowing that the money I'm spending could have made a dent in paying for those repairs.

What I'm saying is that not being able to afford cash for a foundation repair AND an AC doesn't really imply that money is thin to me. Heck, I don't know if I would be able to pull cash together for an AC replacement and a foundation repair, and money is far from thin here. More indicative of a need to change the cash flow.

I had everyone over today to look at all the repairs, and I received good news. My foundation will be a minimal repair and my AC just got something jammed in the fan so it was just a house call. My Disney Vacation is on and I should be just fine on the finances too.

Thanks for all the encouraging words!!!
