We are having a family reunion next year, in Sept, at WDW. I wanted to get our ressies for our 10 rooms taken care of, with the group discount. When I contacted our Special Events CM I was told they don't book groups of any kind at Pop. Ok, I was happy about that when I was there last April. Glad all the school groups were over at AllStars, but now it's me & my family wanting to stay there, so it's a different story! We are a "quiet group", we'll be good! LOL!

Here's my problem, I really liked PC, but hated AS when we stayed there. I was looking forward to taking the family there! It is in my opinion more of a "fun" environment. I also liked the food court better, & other things. But there are some family members who won't be able to go if we don't take advantage of the discount we will get as a group. Plus, we are planning other group events through WDW, so I need to go through the special events. I was quoted $99 per night w/o tax at PC, versus $66 tax included at AS. Since we are staying 5 nights, that's a big difference for some of the family.

Does anyone have any suggestions, other than splitting up? There are a few reasons we don't want to do that, I won't go into them. Convince me that AS isn't that bad? Or any suggestions on other discounts we can get? Any way we can stay at Pop & get the discount? DH & I have AP's, but that would only get us 4 rooms, if we each were able to reserve 2. I wish I could just pay for them all, & stay at BW or a monorail resort! Unfortunately, I just can't swing the cash for that for 10 rooms for 5 nights.

Having stayed at both ASMu and POP, I can say that I liked the theming at POP much better. Now, if faced with the situation you are in, I would most likely settle for ASMu or ASMo. I am not a big sports fan, but regardless, you can have a good time at any of the AS resorts.

Just think of the fun things that you can do for surprises for the family at the AS resorts! Just think of the shorter walks to the bus pickups at the parks! Think of all the money you will save and the fact that you can book it right without extra hassles. Focus on the positives. It's Disney, for goodness sakes, even a moderately off day there is better than the best day in the real world. lol

Good luck with your decisions! Maggie

Thank you! That's just the kind of feedback I'm looking for:D ! I don't want to let my disappointment overrun everything else! But if we can stay there, I want to do it! Keep it coming!

There was one other thing, the discount is suppose to be 35% off rack rates, & I thought Sept 11-16 would be value season & therefore rack rate would be $77, but evidently I was wrong somewhere.

About the cost...not sure when in Sept your going but if you go to the disney online booking and but in Sept dates and get a quote and divide by days you'll get the price.....I got $85 for pop in dec which is $77 plus 11% tax....$99 is a crock.....

The $66 is a $59 rate plus tax...The current 2004 codes give you that rate.....

With an AP you each can book 3 rooms not 2....

I'm not a fan of the group sales at WDW as they total botched our reunion 9 yrs ago...

If I had to do it myself again...knowing what I know now....I would book everything myself...

I can't imagine what you could have booked with special events that you can't do yourself....If it's a special dinner or something that you can do separate without a problem...

I say if you want Pop...it will make you happy then do Pop....you'll have enough stuff that will be just OK...don't make it be the room you'll be sleeping in every night...

Just a few thoughts

Yes Sept is value season not sure why your rooms are coming up at $99 instead of $77.

With 1 AP you can reserve three rooms. So in your name is 3 rooms and in your husbands name is 3 room. And purchase 1 ap for another person and get 3 more rooms with AP rate. There 9 out of 10 rooms will have AP rate (if they come out and if they have that many rooms available) That person may not need an AP but with the saving on 3 rooms times 5 nights it will be cheaper that way.

You said you need ten room..how many people total are going? And how many are adults over 18? If any room has more then two adults in it you will be charged an extra fee for the 3rd and 4th adult.

I would call back and talk to someone else and see what they tell you. If you have to make three different reservation to be able to stay at POP that is just more work on them but it will suit your needs.

Give them another call and see what happens.

Two things:
First, if you really want POP then go for it. Try booking with another CM but first check the info on Disney's website so when you call you are armed with the information and can tel them that you know it should be less then $99 a night. Then if they continue to give you a problem ask for thier manager this can help when realy pushed.
Second, Of all the AS, and I have stayed at them all. My family found Movies to be the best. The flow of the place seemed better and was larger overall. I am not sure of what you experienced before and at which AS but everybody has bad trips sometimes so try to remeber that if you end up at the AS. Plus ASMo is the most Disney oriented resort because all the icons are based on Disney movies so other members of your party who have not experienced Disney before might enjoy that a lot.
Either way ask yourself how much time you will be spending in the room and at the resort. If it is not a lot, most time in the parks then remeber that it is just a place to rest your head when you are booking. Good luck with it and let us know how things worked out for you.
