What programs are being used by you folks? All your work is so amazing and I wanna play too. Someone told me photoshop but while I'm shopping for software I would like some other suggestions.

BUMP!! I want to know too! This stuff is so amazing, I would LOVE to be able to do it for my baby girls (DD18 months and DD3) as well. We are going this December, and I want to get them really excited for it. I want to try and make all these knockout designs for them too!!!

There are many graphic design programs out there. I use Photoshop 5, some use Photoshop Elements (way cheaper if you have to buy), others use Photo Impact. Someone just suggested GIMP, which apparently is free on the internet; don't know the site, however.

I would suggest that you go to download.com or similar site and try several before you buy. You can also download some trial versions from the company websites. I know that the new extremely pricey Photoshop CS3 is on free trial, because I am using it! It is probably the most versitile and comprehensive program I have ever used. Try several programs before you make a decision. Different people like different programs.

Once we have the software & have been playing with it, what is our next step? I would love to be able to do the names with the character backgrounds but I do not know the next step!

I use Paint Shop Pro. For most if not all of these programs, you can download a 30 day trial.
