"I Wanna See My Castle!" October 2013 TR *COMPLETE* **NEW TR LINK!!** 7/3

Yummy? I think you are singlehandedly making me want to check out Universal. The Springfield area looks awesome. Though I have to ask can you actually get Duff beer? Don't think I could pass that up.

Although I wanted to I didn't end up getting any variety of Duff Beer. DFIL was the only one in our group that ordered one.

You can actually get Duff, Duff Lite, and Duff Dry in Springfield. They also have the 7 Duffs out on display along with Duffman:thumbsup2 For any Simpson's fan the area is amazing. Although I wanted to I didn't end up getting any variety of Duff Beer.

The themeing in Springfield really is awesome! I love that you between all of you, you tried something from each QS place. I love all the pics of DS playing. So funny that he was scared of ET but really enjoyed it!

There was so much variety, and it was all very good for counter service food!

It's always a plus when we can find a playground in a theme park! :rotfl: That is definitely what saved us in Dollywood. DS doesn't care that he is not riding anything as long as he has a place to play!

The E.T. experience was so ridiculous. :lmao: He still talked about it all week!!

Wow Springfield looks amazing, I love your pictures! :cool1: My DH and I are both huge Simpsons fans, so we really have to visit that area someday! :thumbsup2

It was more than just an eatery too, they added at least one if not two more rides, I can't remember exactly. We just didn't get to that part of the expansion to take pictures or to ride. As a Simpsons fan, you will definitely enjoy it!

Love the Springfield photos! :thumbsup2 I didn't realize that all of the food joints are actually connected to each other with multiple entrances. Cool! And that pink donut with sprinkles look exactly like the ones Homer enjoys.

I think the last time I was at Universal was in 2001. Enjoyed E.T. and Men in Black even back then.

Yeah, I'm a bit annoyed that we don't have a picture to show the set up, but it was basically all of the venues in a row with a window to walk up and order from. Not like Cosmic Ray's where the different bays are completely separate from one another. It reminded me a lot of the quick service places in Disneyland. There were a few we ate at with different food windows so you can go around and get whatever you want, but then there are several cash registers you can pay at in one central location before you go out into the dining room.

I still love E.T. because of the nostalgia, but I can see the writing on the wall that it will probably become another casualty of Universal in the next few years. :sad1: Men In Black is really fun! I like a shooter game where I can actually see what I am shooting at. :lmao:

Hello to the girl with eagle eyes!

Seriously, I think all DISers need to know that you can spot anyone in a crowd. I was SO impressed with you observational skills! :thumbsup2

Subbing now. I have been home for almost 3 weeks and I have sadly neglected the DIS boards, but I am happy to see your TR alive and well. :thumbsup2

First, I have to say that Paxton is adorable, both in pictures and in person. And I can't believe how much he reminds me of my DS, Brian, when he was that age. That hair. The face. The mannerisms (like rolling on the seat at the airport). :rotfl2: What a flash back.

Looking forward to getting caught up properly this weekend.

Wow - the RP room is really nice!

:lmao: I had no idea I was so good at picking out faces in a crowd!! But I'm glad I did because it was so fun to finally get to meet you and chat with you in person. :goodvibes

Thank you. He is quite a handful, and I just wish he had been in a better mood when we saw you because he really enjoys talking to people!

Wow, Springfield looks awesome!!!! I can't wait to see it in person. So much new stuff over at Universal. They're making it so hard for me to make fun of them.

Haha, no worries pushing your toddler through Moes. Bart and Lisa go in there all the time. No biggie.

Awww I still love the E.T ride. A few years back me and a buddy were in the queue and there is a point where "E.T." suddenly starts rustling in the bushes. Scared him half to death much to the amusement of a couple of older ladies in front of us. So needless to say, I can see how DS would be a little frightened in there.

:rotfl: Well, Universal is definitely working to make a name for themselves, that's for sure!! And it seems as though they are doing a pretty good job of it too. I hope Disney is taking note.

OMG! That would have scared me to death! He was a little nervous, but luckily with the Express Pass we weren't in there long. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the points info, I think i did find a chart but then i was looking at resales and the prices were ALL over the place - like one resale for 180000 points for $1500 and another one for 160000 points for like $18,000 - crazy. IDK. LOL

The playground looks like so much fun. One of these days we need to get to disney at the same time - Paxton and Aria would have a blast together. She has a bunch of "older" boys in her daycare and that's the age range she feels most comfortable playing with it seems.

What was the height requirement on ET? I didn't think Aria could ride that one though maybe I was just looking at IoA ones she can ride when I was deciding whether or not to do that one.

DH saw the post, and I think he is going to message you. :goodvibes

I would love that!! I had so much fun meeting up with DIS'ers this trip, and your family is one I would definitely love to meet up with on future trips. 2015 maybe?? :goodvibes Luckily for us, you go so often that it shouldn't be TOO hard to coordinate at least a few days of overlap! :rotfl:

E.T. had a height restriction of 34" and Paxton was about 38" or so on our trip. I was a little nervous about him needing to sit in his own seat and restraint, but it really wasn't that bad.

Yummy? I think you are singlehandedly making me want to check out Universal. The Springfield area looks awesome. Though I have to ask can you actually get Duff beer? Don't think I could pass that up.

I must admit I had to google Feivel. I thought I recalled it from childhood but figured there was something more current I wasn't aware of. I must say I'm surprised they have something from such an old and not necessarily iconic movie, but it does look like an awesome play area for kids.

:lmao: I have always loved Universal, so I don't mind giving them more business! :thumbsup2 You can get Duff beer, which my dad did. The picture of the Duff plant was actually the walk up counter where you can purchase it.

A lot of their play areas for kids are from older franchises like Fievel and Woody Woodpecker. Paxton only knows Fievel because my DH has loved that movie since he was a kid and started letting Paxton watch it. But when it comes to play areas, I bet most kids are like mine and could care less what the themeing is as long as it's fun!

They really went all out with the themeing in this area! There was just so much to see. Lucky for you, my DH took the time to take as many photos of everything as he possibly could.
Great job. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you asked, yes, I DID feel strange pushing my toddler in a stroller through a bar!
:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

Sadly, none of us had one of these bad boys.
Paxton wasn't ready for another donut yet? :confused3

Our one and only true food picture of DH's Krusty burger with curly fries.
So you give us a picture and no comment about it? :confused3 How was it? What makes a Krusty burger special? Is it extra greasy? Could he feel his arteries slamming shut as he ate it? :rotfl2:

It was pretty good quality for theme park pizza. Better than Disney's CS choices, for certain.
Well, that's setting the bar high. :rotfl::lmao:

We found a huge jungle gym area but I was too worried about letting him go in by himself because he gets scared and starts crying for me to come get him, but some of those tunnels looked a little too small for me.
:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: That's always the thing I hate about letting our kids loose on a playground like that. I've always got to sit there and think about how and where I can get to them if necessary... and am I going to be able to get back out?

I don't have many rules on vacation, but "No skull fractures" is definitely one of them!
I think I might have to adopt that one. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

We get off the ride, and DS immediately proclaims how fun it was! And for the rest of the week, he would randomly talk about having fun finding E.T.'s friends. :confused3 It was so strange, he seemed to HATE it as we were riding, but then he loved it! Go figure.
Don't you just love it when that happens. :confused3

"Welcome to Jurassic Park"
:jumping1:

Although I wanted to I didn't end up getting any variety of Duff Beer. DFIL was the only one in our group that ordered one.

So was the Duff beer actually a real beer? Or was it something like the butterbeer?

Paxton wasn't ready for another donut yet? :confused3

That donut was a little too much for us. It may be hard to tell from the picture but that is a very large donut. It was about the size of a small frisbee. I really wanted it but knew I would be able to eat anything else and I really wanted that crusty burger.:lmao:

So you give us a picture and no comment about it? :confused3 How was it? What makes a Krusty burger special? Is it extra greasy? Could he feel his arteries slamming shut as he ate it? :rotfl2:

I can say it was one of the top burgers I had on the trip. Lets just say the rest of the trip I didn't want to eat another burger so I could say this was the best burger I had on the trip. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: In reality it's a standard burger but very sloppy. The thing that makes it different is it has liquid cheese almost like nacho cheese on top instead of normal sliced cheese and their special crusty sauce. The cheese sauce made for a nice touch to separate it form the others. I can't say it was my favorite of the trip but 2nd place isn't bad. The picnic burger from Sci-Fi will always take the top spot for me.

Well, that's setting the bar high. :rotfl::lmao:

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: That's always the thing I hate about letting our kids loose on a playground like that. I've always got to sit there and think about how and where I can get to them if necessary... and am I going to be able to get back out?

That's the good thing about DW being smaller than me she is the one that will have to squeeze trough the kiddie tunnels to pull DS out and I can sit back and photograph the hilarity that would ensue from watching her rescue DS. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I think I might have to adopt that one. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Don't you just love it when that happens. :confused3

Everytime we asked him what he wanted to do next he wanted to go save ET's friends. :lmao: Kids :confused3

So was the Duff beer actually a real beer? Or was it something like the butterbeer?

They are all real beers brewed exclusively for Universal by a local brewing company.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem looks like a great attraction! My older kids are big fans of those movies! And such a cute queue! Love the crayon drawings on the walls.

I don't blame Paxton for being scared of that minion, what's up with that look on it's face? haha I love that you got the whole interaction on video!

It's really cute! The crayon drawings are really adorable too. It was mostly about the minions, but I liked how they incorporated all of the characters into the queue and the show.

:lmao: His face is definitely a little...startling! I tried to make an effort to take videos of all of our character interactions. So often over the last two trips, they were really cute interactions but didn't always translate into photos. A couple of times I cut the camera off too soon for one reason or another, but I got a lot of great videos this trip!!

Not totally caught up yet but I think I HAVE to go to Universal Studios next October when we won't have a park pass. I have to ride the Forbidden Journey. I have never seen queue pictures before since no one can ever take their camera in there. I'm glad that you said its impossible to describe because I still don't get how it works, but if its the best ride ever I need to experience it.

Paxton is too funny "let's get out of this castle". :rotfl2: That cracks me UP!

Cute pictures of him with Curious George. Great updates, but I am going to save some to read later.

At first I thought Moe's was actually MOE'S, hahah! I guess the Universal version is not a southwestern grill? Hahaah.

Glad your DS ended up enjoying ET so much!

DH was SO excited about being able to bring the camera through the line! It's so dark in there, even if you were able to bring a phone through to take pictures they probably wouldn't come out. So he was over the moon to have the DSLR. It is definitely an AMAZING attraction, and has to be experienced at least once!

:lmao: I wanted to laugh every time he said it but then I felt bad because he did look legitimately nervous being in there.

I had to google MOE's to see what you meant (don't have them here, I guess!), and no, it was most definitely NOT a southwestern grill. :lmao:

I was glad he ended up liking it too, although we never got to take him back on it. Maybe next time though he won't be scared on the actual ride!

Just wanted to thank you for having your husband PM me!! Answered lots of questions. Now we just need to overlap a trip so we can check out your digs LOL!! Next, can you have him give me photography lessons?!?! His photos are awesome! love your TR and love all the great photos. :goodvibes

No problem, I'm glad he was able to give you some good advice. :goodvibes He deals with all of the Wyndham stuff more than I do, so he is definitely the better person to ask between the two of us. I truly hope it works out that we can overlap a trip!

:lmao: I will make sure he reads this post, that will definitely make him happy to read that you love his photos!

Day 2 Continued: Wednesday October 23rd

After finishing everything up we wanted to do at Universal, it was time to head over to Islands of Adventure to finish out our day! Upon entering, our first stop was Seuss Landing. We had felt so bad trucking through here so quickly on our way to WWoHP earlier that morning and thinking of how much DS would love everything in there, so making it our first stop was a must.

2-095 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

The first attraction we did was The Cat in the Hat. If you have ever ridden this attraction, you know it whips you around pretty good! So DH put the camera away after getting this one photo in the queue.

2-096 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

DS really loved this ride! We read the book quite often, and he loves the Cat in the Hat TV show, so this was right up his alley. Another thing I thought he would love in Seuss Landing was the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride. Unfortunately (and I forgot to mention this earlier) he was too short!! We noticed this as we were going over to Universal earlier that morning. There is a big sign outside of IoA with all of the height restriction attractions and the measurement for each one. As we were passing by, I stopped because that caught my eye and I didn't think that could be right since it's in a kids area and not fast or jarring. But I guess it's because it is up so high? I really don't know. But I was kind of bummed to realize he couldn't ride it because he loves trains and we had specifically pointed it out to him earlier when walking through Seuss Landing. Luckily, he didn't remember that and he never even asked to ride.

Next, DS said he wanted to ride the Caro-Seussel. This would be a reoccurring theme throughout the trip...

We actually got lost trying to find the entrance to the attraction and ended up in the play area right beside it. We let him run around in there for awhile, but eventually we had to drag him away or he may have stayed in there all afternoon!

We decided we would head over to Jurassic Park next, but to get there, we had to walk through WWoHP. I was devastated about this, of course.

2-101 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

NOT! That meant is was time to try a WWoHP classic that every Harry Potter fan must try in their lifetime. That's right, it was time for a...

2-102 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

...BUTTERBEER!! We decided to get one to share because DH wasn't sure he would like it. And by the recommendations we have read about the two versions, we went for the frozen one in the souvenir mug! Usually we do not get souvenir mugs unless they are the Disney ones sold in the parks, but this was a special occasion. This was Butterbeer!

2-103 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

I wish I could say DH hated it because then I could have had the whole thing to myself, but unfortunately, he loved it too. He didn't like the caramel foam on top as much as I did though, so once the foam started mixing in with the Butterbeer, I got to finish it off. We were nice parents and offered some to DS, but he wasn't a fan. Oh, well, more for us!

We took a couple more pictures as we strolled through, but we weren't in WWoHP to stay for now.

2-106 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

2-108 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Then of course we had to stop on the bridge for a photo shoot with Hogwarts and our Butterbeer. I mean, who doesn't do that, right?

2-111 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

2-112 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Eventually, we kept moving and made it to our actual destination. Welcome to Jurassic Park! *Cue score by John Williams* (Did you just go look up the music to listen to on YouTube? Because I definitely did!)

2-113 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

2-114 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

I have to say, I have really loved the original Jurassic Park since it came out when I was a kid! I probably know most of the movie by heart. As a kid, I played a lot with my cousin, who is a year older than me, and he was OBSESSED with dinosaurs. So that is probably where my love for this movie fostered from (this one and Land Before Time, but that's another story!), and it makes me love walking through this part of Islands of Adventure. Even if I don't ride anything, I love the atmosphere. You forget you are in the middle of a theme park because everything else is hidden behind all the tall lush trees, and the theme music from the movies is just loud enough that you can hear it if you pay attention. Before WWoHP, this was my favorite land in his park! Now it's second, but I still love it!

So anyway, DH and I both enjoy the River Adventure attraction, but it isn't a must-do for us, so we didn't do a rider switch for it. Instead, we did something I have never done before in all of my visits to IoA. We went inside the Jurassic Park Discovery Center!

2-115 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Just like in the movie, there is a huge T-Rex skeleton right in the center! Pretty cool, even if it isn't real. You actually come in on the second floor, so you are pretty much face to face with Mr. T-Rex as you walk in.

2-116 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

Upstairs is mostly an eatery and a gift shop, though, so we headed down to the ground floor where it looked like most of the action was going on. Can you tell DS was a little excited to be around all those dinos?

2-117 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

2-118 by disneymom1024, on Flickr
Looking up at the T-Rex from below

There were a few different interactive stations down there, including this one that DS really liked where you could pretend you were scanning rocks and dirt to look for fossils that might be inside. Whenever you "found" something, the picture of it would appear on the screen.

Checking out the Stegosaurus tail

At one point while we were in there, I had to make a bathroom run so I went upstairs to do that and to clean out our Butterbeer mug since we had just finished drinking it. I made it back downstairs in just enough time to watch a Velociraptor hatch!

2-125 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

2-122 by disneymom1024, on Flickr

It was actually pretty cool to watch, and really well done. It was just like the scene from the movie! And the TM does a great job getting you excited to see it. I had to remind myself a couple of times that it wasn't real! He asked a little girl in the audience to name the Raptor and she decided to name it Rose. I don't know why, but I found that pretty humorous.

After hanging out in the Discovery Center for awhile and letting DS burn off some energy running around, we decided to go out and try to get on Pteranadon Flyers. When we walked over there, the wait time was 45 minutes and you can't use Express Pass! Uh, forget THAT. By that time, DS was showing signs of needing a nap anyway, so we tried just walking around and seeing if he would fall asleep in the stroller. But before we could get too far, something (or should I say someone?) caught his eye!

UP NEXT: Some Super Character Meets

And just quickly because I probably won't be back for an update before then, but for my U.S. friends, I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving! And to my friends from elsewhere, I hope you have a really awesome Thursday! :-)

Ha, it's actually nice to see a bit of Seuss Land since I tend to just walk though it. It is themed incredibly well I have to say.

Mmmmm Butterbeer is SO FREAKING GOOD!!! One's my limit though since it is pretty sweet. BUT IT'S SO GOOD!!! And yeah, I bought the mug too.

Jurassic Park is fantastic. Uni did a great job is this area beginning right when you walk under that iconic archway. I can't wait to see the rumoured expansion.

It definitely is well themed, and is cute when it's decorated for Christmas! DS totally enjoyed it since he loves Seuss books. Plus everything is so bright and colorful and loud, how could a kid NOT enjoy it??

Gahhh, it is SO good! I was surprised at how much I loved it!! We kept debating getting another one later, but ultimately we didn't. Now I regret it, but at the time we didn't think we could handle another sugary drink like that. If only we'd had two days at Universal/IoA and could have gotten one each day!

WHAT THE WHAT?!?! I didn't know about this rumored expansion!! So you prompted me to Google, and I found some rumored attractions that could be REALLY amazing if they come to life! I hope the new movie coming out in the next couple of years is as good as the original. I hated the second movie, but I did like the 3rd and felt it was more back to the roots of the original, so hopefully this next sequel is more like that. Or maybe it was just having Dr. Alan Grant in both that I loved.

No problem. I know how confusing it can be will all this stuff and I certainly wish I had someone to help me out and ask questions to when we were buying Wyndham. Thanks for the compliments, I try my best at photography.

Ok, that whole velociraptor hatching thing was simply awesome! Along with the Simpsons I think Jurassic Park is the main attraction that makes me really want to visit Universal/IOA.

I also love how they let the kids touch and play with the dinosaur exhibits!

Hmmm. Feeling a little old since I was already in college when the movie came out. :lmao:

I'm so fascinated with the Springfield section of the park. Of course being a Simpson's fan I think they did a great job! And the food didn't look bad either. I really need to leave the Disney bubble sometime since I'd love to see Velociraptor hatch! :)

Going back to Universal Studios Hollywood - the Jurassic Park ride there is really AWESOME when I was disappointed with the Orlando version!

But the discovery center looks awesome, we haven't made it inside there either!! Too bad about the flyers line, that's crazy and stupid you can't use the express pass there. Boo!

And the train - Paxton wasn't tall enough?!?! That's so so weird. He's the perfect after for Seuss landing rides, he should be more than able to ride them all!

Carousel is pretty! Love the theming there!

Yay DS finally made it to Seuss Landing! :cool1:

Mmm butterbeer..glad you both liked it! I've only tried the frozen one too and I love it. Love the pics of you guys with it in front of the castle!

Happy Thanksgiving to you guys! :goodvibes
