Help! We want to get one of the above for our son for Christmas but can't decide which one. I'd like to decide today so I could try to take advantage of the Target deal if we pick the I Touch.

From what I can tell the Kindle is almost the same as the I Touch but without the camera. And it is bigger if course. Our I Touch is so old - one of the first generations - that it doesn't even have a speaker, you need headphones to hear anything. So I'm not sure about all of the upgrades to that either.

Are there other differences I'm missing? Can he get all of the same apps and games on the Kindle? The only reason I started to lean towards the Kindle was the size, I thought it might be nice to play the games and watch movies on the bigger screen.

Thanks for any input!

Not the same at all. Kindle Fire is based on an Android system whereas the Touch is based on Apples system. The fire has a larger screen and the Touch has a tiny screen. The fire allows for music, video other file storage via Amazon's cloud feature, and the Touch does it via Itunes/cloud.

I love ereaders. I have first gen Nook that I basically wore out. After much decision I chose a Kindle Fire because it seemed more technologically better than the Nook product. I love to read, I have over 400 ebooks and I read constantly. I like the ease of use of Amazon's systems as well as other perks such as one month free Prime Membership, ease of website and customer service.

If you are looking for a mini tablet- thismay not be what you need. I know that kids will hate the small screen of the Touch. (My son hates this- that is why he is getting a Nook Color. He's getting a Nook Color so he can root it)

Sure the deal is good at Target, but what will your child want? Does he/she already have an Iphone.. if so it's basically the same thing as a Touch.

Thanks! He uses our old ITouch (the one without sound) so he is used to the small screen. He doesn't mind it, but I thought he would like the big screen better. But yes, I was thinking it was like a small IPad. That is what he really wants but I am not ready to spend that much! :) He also wants a puppy, he's not getting that either. :rotfl2:

My DD has an itouch 3rd generation. It doesn't have a camera. we have a family iPad and she is begging for her own. she doesn't like the small screen of the ipod. I have an older nook and was thinking of getting her the Nook tablet however, most her stuff is on itunes. DS has an itouch and dh has an iPhone so they all share.

She loves to watch movies on it, play games and email. the fire and nook do not have cameras so that is a bit disappointing. I'm not sure if they have the microphone.

She also likes to do skype with my parents. I think she'll use facetime or whatever that is with her friends from out of state.

we told her no on the iPad so she is saving her money and going to buy her own. She knows the others are cheaper but is willing to wait for the reasons above.

I'm getting DD8 an itouch for christmas. She is using my old iphone now and uses it most often for texting, facetime, and the camera. Also plays games, listens to music and watches movies, but for what she uses it most for, the itouch would be better. Its also smaller and more portable to bring places. I have a kindle fire, which I love, and she uses it occasionally for games and books but I think she would rather her own itouch.

I just read an article on the fire a few days ago, but cannot find it now. Just be aware that it comes preloaded and has no parental controls. Which means it is linked to the amazon account and has the ability to order items without the need to confirm a password or such. So your child could order a bunch of stuff. Including R rated downloads.

Found it.
