:wizard: Please tell me I got a good camera! I have had my old 35 mm pentax for 7 years and I love it. But I really wanted a digital. I got this camera at Staples for $300. The man said it was orginally a $500 camera. I am ready for the good the bad and the ugly thoughts on this camera! Thanks!

You still can return it, right?

The goods on this camera:
- one of the nicest electronic view finder out there
- easy menu system
- oversaturated colour rendition (if you like that kind of thing)

The bad on this camera:
- extremely high ISO noise even at ISO 200, unuseable at ISO 400
- claiming to be able to take pics at ISO 1600 but only at 0.8 MP
- oversaturated colour rendition (if you like natural looking colour reproduction)
- non swivelable LCD (this is really subjective, but for me it's very important in a P&S)

Quite honestly it's not a bad camera, but you can do better.

Thank you Kelly I am going to try it out for awhile and see how it goes. Anyone else have opinions???

Hubby loves it and so did four of the families that went to Disney with us two weeks ago. The stores made out with them.......We took awesome photos of everyone and everything....
WE of course left the booklet in Maine when we went and it took him a few moments of trial and error to find the fireworks function......wow and we like it.....but not everyone likes the same things in life or else there would be ONE camera and one Restaurant and one Resort and One car.....so hope you enjoy it as much as hubby does.....

I bought an 850 several months ago. It is one of 4 digital cameras that I use and have enjoyed it very much. The biggest advantage to this camera is the 12x optical zoom. Works great for taking sports pictures. I also like the rechargeable batteris and have gotten very good life with each charge. The large display is one of the best I've seen. The anti/shake feature is also very nice. So far I've been very pleased with the pictures.

As for the minus's. It took some getting used to having to take the lens cap off before turning the camera on. Otherwise it will eject the lens cap on its own. At times there is an over saturation of color. If you don't mind doing some custom settings, you can correct that on your own. I use photoshop for the pictures where I may want to bring the color down just a little bit and it does an outstanding job.

Is it the best camera on the market? No. But for the price point, it does a very nice job fitting the niche between a point and shoot and an SLR. With the number of features it offers, I consider it a good camera at a good price.
