I took my own sheets and boy did I sleep well

The germ phobia in this country is staggering. Dateline, 20/20, and the local news has got everyone paranoid about everything. Think of all the places you go, things you touch, places you sit, etc. in a given day, and really, sheets at a hotel are a drop in the bucket. I'll bet an average person has more germs on their hands at any given moment than the hotel sheets do. Of course, I would take issue with bodily fluid stains or something, but I don't get to worked up about hotel linens.

I do agree though that the flat vs. fitted sheet thing is annoying though. Never understood why hotels don't use fitted sheets.

We bring our own sheets because NOT having the fitted sheet on the bottom, but a flat sheet that constantly comes untucked, annoys the heck out of us.
Us too! :headache: So we just keep a set of those sheet-gripping, stretchy, corner straps with the little clips, in our luggage pocket. They're small but they work.

Whenever we check in to a hotel or timeshare, we pull back the sheets to peek at the condition of the mattresses anyhow. We do a bedbug check (look for small "rust" stains) and note that the sheets appear fresh. Have only had a problem once with sheets that did not look fresh to me at a budget stop on a long drive and the hotel changed the sheets for us. When we look, if we see that the bottom sheet is a flat sheet, we can easily put the straps on the corners to hold them down. Under $5 at Wal-Mart - problem solved. :)

We usually sleep pretty comfortably in timeshare beds once we've had a day or two to adjust and get familiar with the place.

I also agree with the person who said that our hands are probably more germy than a clean bed in a hotel or timeshare. If you go to the trouble of lugging sheets and changing them upon check-in (for health reasons, rather than aesthetics), then also bring a couple antiseptic wipes to swipe the doorknobs, flush lever, phones and remote controls. We don't bother with those things but we wash our hands regularly and frequently.

Yes, our hands are a culprit...a proven fact from long ago when there were no gloves and when docs and nurses washed hands, babies survived....

What I think is a big germ carrier is money...oh yuck!

MRSA has been around for decades...and we swab everyone's nares (nose) when they are admitted to our VA hospital and they are in isolation if they are a carrier...so this is nothing new...but good handwashing is the key

A question for all those who change the sheets, do not use bedspread, etc.--Do you bring your own pillows too? Or do you think its okay to use them since they have a fresh pillowcase on them?

Thanks!

For those of you who bring your own sheets....how to you handle mousekeeping during your stay? I would like to bring at least a fitted sheet for my next trip....hate those flat bottom sheets!!! and someone suggested bringing a colored sheet rather than white. What will the maids do on the full cleaning day? Just not sure of the logistics here.

I bring my own pillowcases in different colors than white. the main reason is I am spoiled at home and miss my high thread count SUPER soft sheets at home.
I CAN NOT STAND DISNEY ITCHY SCRATCHT SHEETS ;)

I am actually taking my own flat sheet for our next DVC trip just in case the new sheets are the same.

its all about comfort for me and the DVC beds have to be the SMALLEST queen bed (in studios) I have ever slept in. :goodvibes

I have read many threads about the sheets at the DVC resorts not fitting on King beds. Does this also apply to the Queen size beds? Thanks for your help.
