I Told You Driving Was Bad For Your Health! *2/2* NEW TRIP REPORT LINK P102

I really enjoyed your tour of Savannah. I have been there 4 times and I see something different every time I go.

There was a elevator on the West side of Riverwalk over by the hotel.

I saw you walked through Washington Square, you probably walked through Chatham Square-where Forest Gump was filmed. Chatham Square is right next to the pub with the telephone booth.

You take great pictures. It was fun seeing Savannah again. My dd put in to work in Savannah in the ugliest building -the Federal building.

Glad your dh is doing better.

If you didn't already figure this out, I moved our October 2014 cruise to the October 24th sailing which is a Double Dip. Same Price, but two stops at Castaway Cay. Best Part is Ellen (podsnel) is on that cruise. I want to thank her for recommending it. It's a Thursday through Sunday cruise. I am thrilled because I wanted to cruise over the weekend anyway. Now I can spend four nights proceeding the cruise at the VGF. We will probably have to do a standard view room, but that's OK. I will survive!
That should be a lot of fun. Not just getting to see a Dis Friend, but who can argue with getting 2 stops at Castaway Cay? :thumbsup2

In other news, I did NOT get offered the magic creator position at AAA.
I'm sorry it didn't work out. I'm sure you'd have been very good at it. I think you're probably right though that everything happens for a reason and the timing probably wasn't right anyway. Maybe they'll be looking to expand in a couple of years? :confused3 :thumbsup2

I think these are totally cool, but practicality won out. Seriously - you put that stopper in a bottle you will most certainly not have enough shelf height for it to stand in up in a frig.
I'm sorry, but forget practicality. Those things are awesome. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

A Delaware shotglass in Savannah? See what I mean? Who needs that?
Well, you know... maybe somebody who has a collection of shot glasses from 49 states but has no intention of ever actually going to Delaware. :confused3 :lmao:

C,C, and Denny were a little bit more interested in the memorial then when I visited with my GF's, so I was able to take a few more pictures of the details. That was nice.
Was Denny really that interested, or did he just need a break from that stress test you were putting him through?

This ice cream was GOOD! I was now 3 for 3 on the food choices.
Well, you're at least getting the most important things right. :thumbsup2

I wonder if the Leopold family has been shamed into taking down THIS picture. Just curious. :confused3
:sad2: I certainly hope not.

Of course someone must have driven Leopold's all the way to Miley when she was out filming on Tybee Island.[/AUOTE]
Although they might be shamed into removing this one by now. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

Neat tour of Savannah. I've never been there, but it is somewhere that I've often considered going and your pictures and report only reinforce that. :thumbsup2

Wow, you were just an updating machine this weekend, weren't you? The pictures are absolutely stunning, as always. Mark and I really need to do a "drive" to Florida one of these years so that we can stop in Savannah...so beautiful.

I want a bird girl statue!

I read this over the weekend o my phone, too hard to post and now...arrgh can't remember all of the (I am sure) witty comments I had.

What a lovely city, I would really really love to go there someday. Highly unlikely at present but oh it's lovely! I am so glad the stairs and walking went well, they do want you to move for sure but oh I'm sure it was a little stressful for all at first. Vic's looked lovely but I am :rotfl2: at the wine stoppers. not only would they not fit in the fridge...I could see um, parts, easily breaking off.

Mary Ellen just loved your tour of Savannah!! The fried grren tomatoes and the shrimp and grits are calling my name YUMMY!!!

That was one heck of an update, miss!

Number one, WOW!!!! What a beautiful city. Makes me want to go there. Right now. And...

Number two, EAT ALL THAT FOOD!!!! :lmao: My goodness, your lunch, the dessert after, the drinks!!! YUM. I'm all in on this one.

I certainly understand about genetic cardiac issues! My brother died from a heart attack, my sister had one & has only 40% heart function. Also have a brother that has had a stent, these sibs are all younger than I! At least my heart is ok.

I so need to visit Savannah, it is such a beautiful city. I love my grits, also love shrimp, but have to say no to that combination. I'm in the Midwest & I have grits at least once a month, mother was southern!

When we visited Louisiana I had to go to a drive through Daquari bar. I couldn't get over the fact one could get a drink just like getting a burger at a drive thru!

I would to do an eating tour of Savannah, I'm a sucker for most southern food.

Hi there!

I am at the dentist with Tim, catching up on my phone while he gets his teeth cleaned. I just wanted to say- the cruise is 4 nights, not 3- Thursday to Monday, not Sunday. :) 4 nights is quick enough! Day 1 is sail away, day 2 is Nassau (I think we might do a foodie tour there if you'd like to join us), days 3 & 4 are at CC, day 5 you disembark. There is no palo brunch offered on a dd, that is the only downside to this- but 2 whole days at Serenity Bay waaaaaay make up for that!

Did I say Sunday, because I meant Monday. I think its the perfect length. I see I also got the date wrong - I can never remember if its the 23rd or the 24th? But don't worry - I got my hard copy confirmation in the mail today and I am set!

I would love to join you for the foodie tour. I actually read about that and it sounds really fun. We are totally in!

OMG - I can't believe we will have two days there. I can't tell you how excited I am that you told me! :worship::worship::worship: I think its going to be perfect and the best anniversary trip EVER!

And it's on Oct 23rd, 2014 :)

And our anniversary is the 21st so its perfect. I just have to remember 21 + 2 =23!!!!!

How cool is that? I'm sure you two will have a great time togther!

It IS pretty darn cool! I am seriously excited about it! :cool1:

I'm sorry to hear that. You would have been great at it.

Thanks Mark. I think I would have been, too. But I'm honestly OK with it. If I was still in my old job I would have been seriously BUMMED. This job is a lot more stressful and leaves me no free time during the day.

:rotfl: I guess there's only one way to find out!

And this was the way. We all had phones. The batteries were charged. Why not test the 911 system?

Wow, they have the back side of water too?

I was thinking the very same thing as I was writing the update! :rotfl:

Yes - there were a few moments when I was just that! :scared1:

Hey, I was just thinking we didn't have enough 3D puzzles.

Well now you know where to stock up on your supplies. Just wait until I get to my South of the Border pictures. :rolleyes1

A seriously awesome person, obviously.

Uhmm - yeah - maybe? :confused3

Looks like a terrific place! :thumbsup2

It was a perfect choice.

One of each? :confused3

Don't tempt me! ;)

Duly noted. Thanks for the tip!

Anytime!

Reason #867 why I don't do well with house tours. :rolleyes1

You need THAT many reasons to skip out on a historic house tour? :rotfl2:

I really enjoyed your tour of Savannah. I have been there 4 times and I see something different every time I go.

:welcome: OhMari! Thanks for dropping by and joining the Savannah tour! I imagine Savannah is one of those places that you could visit over and over again and never tire of it.

There was a elevator on the West side of Riverwalk over by the hotel.

Come to think of it, we actually went through that hotel and up the elevator. I am sure we were on a guest elevator and we had no idea what floor to get off on. We had to ask.

I saw you walked through Washington Square, you probably walked through Chatham Square-where Forest Gump was filmed. Chatham Square is right next to the pub with the telephone booth.

Cool. I did not know that. You mean I was right near Forest Gump's bench. So bummed I missed it. I mean, I knew the movie was filmed in Savannah, but I really didn't know any of the landmarks.

You take great pictures. It was fun seeing Savannah again. My dd put in to work in Savannah in the ugliest building -the Federal building.

Thanks.

Does your dd live there now?

You mean there is an UGLY building in Savannah? Everything just looked so pretty or eclectic. Such a cool town.

Glad your dh is doing better.

Thank you! :)

That should be a lot of fun. Not just getting to see a Dis Friend, but who can argue with getting 2 stops at Castaway Cay? :thumbsup2

I am SO excited that I rebooked for that cruise. It's going to be a blast!!!!!!

I'm sorry it didn't work out. I'm sure you'd have been very good at it. I think you're probably right though that everything happens for a reason and the timing probably wasn't right anyway. Maybe they'll be looking to expand in a couple of years? :confused3 :thumbsup2

The have intentions of adding more magic creators if it proves to be a profitable position. So maybe I'll get a chance in the future. Quite honestly, it doesn't pay a lot so I certainly wasn't interested in it from that stand point. I just wanted to try something in the travel industry selling something I LOVE.

I'm sorry, but forget practicality. Those things are awesome. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

They are pretty awesome, aren't they? You're right - I probably should have gotten one because looking at the picture reminds me of how cool they actually are.

Well, you know... maybe somebody who has a collection of shot glasses from 49 states but has no intention of ever actually going to Delaware. :confused3 :lmao:

I hadn't considered that possibility. Good point! That rare person may exist, somewhere..... :scratchin

Was Denny really that interested, or did he just need a break from that stress test you were putting him through?

Denny is a HUGE history buff, so I am certain his interest was sincere (even if he had been having chest pain )

Well, you're at least getting the most important things right. :thumbsup2

My thoughts exactly. All my food choices scored a perfect 10!

:sad2: I certainly hope not.

I am sure Paula Deen has a loyal following in Savannah. Her image was all over the visitors center. A little bit of bad PR isn't going to tarnish that.

Although they might be shamed into removing this one by now. :rolleyes1 :lmao:

As they should be! :rotfl:

Neat tour of Savannah. I've never been there, but it is somewhere that I've often considered going and your pictures and report only reinforce that. :thumbsup2

So glad you liked the pictures. It really is a cool town. I hope you do get a chance to visit some day.

Wow, you were just an updating machine this weekend, weren't you? The pictures are absolutely stunning, as always. Mark and I really need to do a "drive" to Florida one of these years so that we can stop in Savannah...so beautiful.

I can't believe I posted 6 chapters of pictures and I still have many more to go. :rotfl: Glad you liked them!

If you and Mark ever get a chance to stop there, do it. It's a really cool city. You won't be disappointed.

I want a bird girl statue!

I got a postcard, does that count? :rotfl:

I read this over the weekend o my phone, too hard to post and now...arrgh can't remember all of the (I am sure) witty comments I had.

You mean your comments are going to be devoid of your usual wit. Oh No. Not that! :faint:

What a lovely city, I would really really love to go there someday. Highly unlikely at present but oh it's lovely! I am so glad the stairs and walking went well, they do want you to move for sure but oh I'm sure it was a little stressful for all at first.

It really is a gorgeous city. So worth a look if its ever convenient. It's just so darn unique. I'm glad we were able to make it there.

It was stressful, but I really just tried to push it out of my mind and just enjoy. No sense it fretting about it.

Vic's looked lovely but I am :rotfl2: at the wine stoppers. not only would they not fit in the fridge...I could see um, parts, easily breaking off.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: There you go, your wit is still present! Yeah, the ladies looked like may be a little vulnerable to breakage, that's for sure! :rotfl:

Mary Ellen just loved your tour of Savannah!! The fried grren tomatoes and the shrimp and grits are calling my name YUMMY!!!

The only thing that would have made that self guided tour of Savannah better would have been a Marv on a stick. :lmao: We had a great time and the food was really to die for. So so good!

ME I am finally catching up...so far behind on everthing. I just finished reading all the details about Denny's ER and hospital visit. Again, its so good that you are so familiar with Denny's history and are such a great patient advocate for him.
glad that everything is going well for him now.
and on to your changes.

WOW what a great stay you have managed. I totally understand pushing the cruise back a year, and it makes sense to build a fantastic 25th anniversary with a cruise and a Grand Floridian stay together.

Can't wait to read about your St. Augustine stay! after we stopped for a few hours there last year, we both knew it would be a fun place to stay for a few days, so should be great for you! When we were debating driving in October I looked into a 2 day stay in St Augustine for us too, but we're taking the train so that was that.

The beach walk sounds really interesting. lots of beach life (and death for the shark) you saw there. I am surprised that one ofthe little boys did not try to take the dead shark...for sure my nephews would have!
Your timing for Blufton was just right to get that small town night out feel. Fun to follow it with a day in Savannah. I've never been there. I will have to remember the Juliette Gordon Lowe house--I would have found that interesting. i was a GS as a child-early teen, and am a leader now for Katie's troops. Such a great organization!

BWAHAHA! on the EPCOT phone booth comment! Did you try to call it???

She told us that the prices where the same as restaurants directly ON the riverfront, but ambiance and food were much better. Duly noted. But it wasn't quite lunch time.

Depends on which clock you are looking at!

Love the picture of the sunglasses with you and the camera in the mirror.

I also like the $10 Christmas ornaments that were worth $3. I probably would have paid $6!

How lucky that you got the recommendation for lunch at Vic's. The restaurant looked beautiful, the view were great and the food looked amazing! Sounds like you certainly enjoyed it.

Thanks for showing us around Savannah! Looked like a great day, one that you all truly deserved after what you had been through!

So wonderful to have a nice day in Savannah.

Glad Denny was well enough to handle the walking and climbing stairs.

Vic's sounded like a great meal.

I am sure you were a bit nervous but I can see you just turn to Denny and tell him while pointing to the stairs that his stress test is right there.

Just hoping you didn't wait at the top with the phone in your hand ready to call 9 1 1.

The new cruise plans sound great! Double dip and a Dismeet!
I'm sorry you did not get the magic creator position, but I can understand that it would just be too much right now. Everything happens for a reason!
The whole savannah river front area looks really nice, very quaint. Those stairs look like a challenge for anyone, glad Denny did well!
Vic's looks really lovely indeed, glad you had a good meal there. Also glad you finally found a clock that worked! Lol

Hey there- :goodvibes I waited to read the rest of your TR updates- my little iphone was just not doing your gorgeous photos justice!
I am so glad to hear our dates are still the same- I got a little nervous that I misread something somewhere- originally we were booked Nov 13- then DCL did the big switcheroo on a bunch of cruises. Ours was moved to Oct 23rd, which I think may originally have been Oct 24th and a 3 night, not 4 (that was why I was concerned about your dates in your post!). The foodie tour gets GREAT reviews on TA, I was thinking about doing it when I was there on the last cruise, but decided to just enjoy the ship- and didn't want to leave Timmy, plus, he would not be interested in that tour.

Savannah looks beautiful- we have never ventured out from HHI when we have been there, partly because it's a bazillion degrees in July/August when we have been and partly because I can't tear myself away from the island. :lovestruc But it IS on my list for when Pods and I are there off season, someday. So funny all your shopping in the shop with the Delaware shot glass. :rotfl: So did you buy 12? :rotfl: Your attitude about the shop is HILARIOUS, "Who needs it? Who would want it?" :rotfl: That is pretty much what Pods says in EVERY shopping situation (we don't need that- it's stupid stuff. That's useless. We don't want it)- no matter WHAT store you are in. Which is why I NEVER go shopping with him, especially on vacation. :rotfl2:

Lunch looked amazing- glad it tasted as good as it looked! :thumbsup2 Also very happy you got your to go cup- :thumbsup2

Trying to get all caught up again. I read this update earlier but never got the chance to comment. I'll have to come back and comment on the Savannah trip so this reply isn't so long.

First off, so glad to hear Denny is still doing well, and nice to know if I'm ever at HHI and need attention, the local medical care comes highly recommended. Sorry about the changes for your cruise, but glad you only had to postpone it, and will still get to go.

The Beach Walk is very scenic and looks very interesting! And no.......not just because of

I left this shot in for the boys. I knew you would like it. he he

Not really sure what TJ is doing here

:rolleyes1 Doesn't hurt though............ ;)

Temporarily distracted, I took some scenery shots.
Thought you already did that............

This little mound is actually worm poop. TJ told us about several types of worms that inhabit this area and these little mounds are evidence of their existence. That's a lot of waste from one little worm.
 You can say THAT again!!!

Baby horse-shoe crab
Don't think I ever saw one that small. Cool pic! :thumbsup2

No flip flops allowed here. You'll either get stuck or cut your feet
Those oyster beds/shells can be razor sharp. ::yes::

A dead baby shark
Amazing what you can find washed up on the shore sometimes. :worried:

The whole beach walk from door to door took about 90 minutes. I loved it. It was really interesting. HHI also offers a marsh walk, which I have yet to do.
Sounds and looks like a great way to spend a little time. Very informative and doesn't tie up a huge chunk of your day. I bet the marsh walk is very interesting also. :goodvibes

Any Clemson fans out there?

yeah….uhmmmm….no thanks
Agree! You notice you found that sign basically in a junkyard............... :rolleyes2

Palm artwork

Hmmm, palm? Or sweetgrass? I know around the Charleston area there are numerous roadside stands that sell sweetgrass baskets that they are apparently proud of if you look at any of the price tags.

I bought some pastries to take back for breakfast. It was getting close to closing time and they were deeply discounted. I think I bought some bread, too. Then we ended up sampling and buying some black -eyed pea dip. Think bean dip only made with black-eyed peas. It was sooooooo good, although a little sweet.
Deeply discounted seems to add a certain improvement in the taste I think.

The moose head on the wall

Guess this is why you don't see many moose in the lowcountry anymore............they have been hunted into extinction in the area. :rotfl:

Poor Denny! After all he had been through, don't you think he had suffered enough??? ;)

I thought I took pictures of the sunbathers, but alas, I guess not. As far as the picture I posted. That view was pretty accidental. I was going for the horseshoe crab. I didn't expect the cleavage.
Always a pleasant surprise.

Sorry I didn't get to replies tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! :thumbsup2

Fabulous update - yummy food, shopping, history, pretty places! I only had time to scroll through quickly, but I am going to go back this weekend and read the different plaques that you took pictures of.

I have made fried green tomatoes exactly one time in my life. They were okay. Yours looked much tastier! What was the sauce like?

Thanks so much for posting the walking tour of the city. The pictures are gorgeous! I was happy to read that Denny had no problems with all of the walking and the stairs.

So, there's no walking around with alcohol on the streets where you live? The only time that you can't have an "open container" of alcohol in Louisiana is when you are driving. Yet, there are tons of drive through liquor stores that sell frozen drinks. :confused3

Sorry I stink at quoting and pasting.

You asked me if my dd works in Savannah. She does not work in Savannah, she could of been assigned to Savannah. Her academy was about an hour south of Savannah were she trained. She just went back there last month for some training and she spent the weekend up in Savannah. She did a night time pub crawl, ghost tour.

The government built an ugly grey stucco building sort of near where you saw the kids outside at their school. It is a Federal building for FBI, ICE and other Federal agencies.

I feel like I am hi-jacking your thread.
But a few more things about Savannah
The bench in Chatham Square where Forest Gump told his story, the City of Savannah gave the bench to the Museum at the visitor center. They were afraid it would get stolen or vandalized. Also at Chatham Square is the church with the white steeple, it is in the opening credits of Forest Gump where the feather is floating away and you see the church and steeple. The church and steeple were also used in Back To the Future Movie where Doc went up the steeple to wrap the wire around the steeple so it could jump start the DeLorean.

I did the trolley ride a couple of times. Each time I had a different driver and they would tell you something new.
