I thought January was value?

So I'm online looking at 2013 rates. We were first planning on taking DD for her first trip in February for her birthday, but then the more I was thinking about it, the more I thought that January would be better price wise. So this morning I am looking online and it still seems so high! Then I put in some random October dates just to do a price comparison and it is less? :confused3 I'm so confused. For the January dates I tried another resort (Port Orleans Riverside) and that came up less than the suites at AoA. So much for that being a value resort :rotfl: I know that you are paying for a suite, but still, I was not expecting it to be such a large amount, especially for January. :worried:

Is January considered Value?

The "seasons" change every year, and there are different seasons even within the same month. You can check what season your dates are in on the WDW although I noticed this morning that that part of the website doesn't appear to be fully operational right now...but you can check the prices for your dates and compare it to the seasons they do have listed for 2013.

Rack rate for next year hasn't been released yet.
If you try to book anything after December 31, 2012, you will be priced at the Peak rate (I think it's Peak?) for 2012 no matter when you book. They will automatically adjust your reservation when the new rates are released (the rumor is it's supposed to happen on Wednesday).

For example, when I booked my room only for my honeymoon in June 2008 for January 2009, my original deposit was something like $343 (one night peak rate for the current year). A few months later, my nightly rate dropped to $225/night once the rates for the year were released.

If you want to better gauge the prices, you can find this year's room rates on various websites, including here http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates.htm
They probably will go up some for next year. The average seems to be around $5-10/night, but it depends on the room category and if they end up adding more "seasons."

Usually the dates for each season are listed under "room type & pricing" section of the hotel site. But it appears that the AoA site doesn't have it listed yet. I would check back later. Btw, the AoA suites are about 2.5 to 3 times more expensive than the little mermaid rooms. The LM rooms are similar in price to other value rooms. So if the price is too high, consider a LM room.

Actually the wdw website is being updated right now with the info. Some of the 2013 rates are up and calculating, some are not. Best to check back later.

Btw not a rumor, the rates will be available to book today. Clearly written on the website.

Now that I'm looking at it, I'm a bit confused too, because the prices coming up are very likely the prices for next year. I compared it to October as well, and October comes in more expensive, so that seems right. The dates I chose in both October and January could have been completely different than yours.

There have been many who have complained about the higher prices at AoA (the suites in particular) because they don't fit in with the rest of the Value pricing.

If you let us know the specific dates you were looking at we might be able to tell you the reason why it was priced the way it was. For example, the second weekend of January is the Marathon next year. There's a huge price jump for that weekend, because there will be more people staying in the resort over that weekend than during the surrounding days.

In general, the cheapest prices at Disney tend to be during the week when the majority of American kids are in school. The weekend prices have separate pricing and holiday weekends jump even higher.

Package prices were released today for 2013. :thumbsup2

It's still good advice to look at the price chart for the current year, at least until prices for next year are easier to find. At the very least, it will show the OP the basic seasons throughout the month, instead of inputting new dates on the Disney website over and over again. Granted they're not hugely applicable without confirming the specific dates for the year in question, but at least it shows that if you go over a particular holiday, you could pay twice as much as other nights in the same month.

From what I've seen, it's becoming much harder to get a good deal in January.

OOOOH...it's morning in the States now.:scratchin

Y'all have to forgive me for being a little behind my game, it's been Wednesday here all day. :rotfl:

This also explains why the DIS is so chatty during a time when it's usually fairly dead.
