I'm coming to terms with a lot of things right now. One of the smaller ones is canceling our trip in April. I'm hoping that say it "out loud" on here, and getting some support will make it a bit easier.

We were going to surprise the kids with a trip in April. We booked a week- thats a couple days more then we normally do. We were going to San Deigo and Legoland, and a bunch of days in Disneyland. Think we even had club 33 reservations in the works. My mom was coming with us for 3-4 days and my MIL and FIL for the other 3 or 4 days.

We found out on Friday that my mother has cancer of the esophogus. There is no way I can leave her and go on vacation. She had breast cancer 8 years ago and beat it. But I don't have good feeling this time around. Frankly, with the weight she has dropped in the last month, she just doesnt have it in her to fight something this big. They put a feeding tube in yesterday, hopefully that will help.

I'm just working through all the emotions. I hope this post doesnt come across as me complaining that I have to cancel. That is not it at all. Its just one of the many emotions I'm dealing with. I was supposed to have a great vacation with her. Now I have to hold her hand while she dies. I dont want to that! We just did this with my dad 4 years ago (lung cancer for him). I've done cancer with both of them, isnt that enough? I guess sometimes life just sucks.

Disney will be there when we are ready. I guess I should be happy that we've only paid $200 so we arent out much.

:grouphug: Oh my prayers go out to your mom and your family. My FIL had colon cancer a few years ago and there were some rough times where we thought he wouldn't make it. He's fine today and I wish that for your mom. I lost my dad 2 years ago. It's very difficult to see parents getting ill.

You are not coming across as complaining about your trip at all. I completely understand how you feel. That trip sounded so much fun. Being disappointed is only natural. I see it as an extension for feeling sad about your mom. If she was better you could go to the happiest place on earth but now you all are dealing with a very different issue. Whenever people find out bad news it's normal to think if things could only have been the way they were which would mean the DL trip was on. It's like feeling that your mom never got sick so things wouldnt change. I hope this is coming across the way I wanted. I'm kind of jumbling my thoughts. It's hard to explain in words.

Please keep us posted on your mom's health. Know everyone on the DL disboards will be praying and sending pixie dust thoughts to you and your family. My heart goes out to you all.

Linda, lots of prayers to your mom. Disneyland will be waiting when you are ready. You are doing the right thing being there for your mom right now. ((((HUGS)))) If you need anything don't hesitate to ask.

You won't regret canceling the trip. Prayers for a good outcome for your mom but whatever happens, you will not regret staying by her side during this difficult time. Also, you are teaching your kids an important lesson, family first. DL will be there when you are ready.

I copied the above on purpose. You're right, this is a small thing.

Disney will be there when you really NEED it. When things have settled down, and your emotions are truly shot, and the kids are on the edge. Disney will wait for you. When all is said and done, money doesn't matter in the least.

You know you are doing what's best in the long run. You are a good daughter---it's important for your kids to see that.

My prayers and thought are with you. Disney will be there. If you need anything please ask or even if you just want talk we are all here for you.

We had to cancel a couple of years ago when my dad was about to pass, we had booked with expedia and they were terrible , I was crying on the phone that I did not even want the money , just to postpone about 3 weeks , because I planned on taking the boys after so they could blow of some steam. I will never use them again. I am glad you were not delt too hard a finacial blow, maybe under the cercumstances you can be given a credit.
I am 35 now, I lost mom to cancer when I was 19 and dad 3 years ago. I can actually say I know how you feel, and my prayer's are with you, get many opinions , and I hope she is getting the best care available, don't be afraid to fire any dr's you dont agree with.

You are doing the right thing. My prayers are with you, your family, and you mom during this hard times. You will never regret cancelling but you might regret if you went.

We will still be here to help you plan your next trip. You are a great daughter and I am sure your mom will appreciate it more than words can say.

If you need anything at all, hugs, prayers, just to vent, please post. Even though this is a DL board, we are all one big DL family and if you need us, we are here!

I am so sorry for all that you and your mom have to deal with all this right now. Saying goodbye and even *thinking* about saying goodbye to our loved ones is never easy.

Hugs, prayers and much love to all...
agnes!

Linda,

My prayers are with your mom and your family.

Many prayers and good wishes coming your way. I'm sorry this news forces you to change your plans, but you will never regret having that time to spend with your mom. :grouphug:

Linda, I am sorry you are going through this right now. I am really going to keep you and your mom in my prayers. I have nursed my mom through cancer and now Alzheimers and I know from my own experience life is seldom fair. I hope that you and your mom can offer each a other a lot of comfort and support right now as you go though this life changing event. Make sure you check out the care and concern board here on the dis. I go over there sometimes, its nice to know that you aren't alone. Disneyland will always be there for you and your family and so will the disboards. Please take care of yourself and hang in there!

Also, if that $200 was through Disney directly they might do the right thing and refund it for you. I have heard they are very understanding. :grouphug:

Linda,
Many prayers to you and your family during this very difficult time. Please know that we are all praying for you and you and your mom are getting one huge cyber hug! :grouphug:

I'm sorry you and your family are having to go through this. Times like these are when the "little things" just add more sadness when that's the last thing you need.

You need to vent about all this, so feel free. My prayers are with you, your mom, and your entire family.

Linda, We are so sorry to hear about this and wish you and your family the best as you go through this tough time. I know that you are on the minds of all of us on Team Disneyland. Like many have said, Disneyland will be there when you are ready. Remember, your $200 deposit is fully refundable up until 45 days prior to your arrival.

Hi Linda,

First, you are not cancelling, just postponing. Disneyland will be there when you are ready to visit.

Second, :grouphug: to you. I will be praying for your Mom and your family.

Third, do you think we could brighten your Mom's spirits by sending postcards or Disney get well cards? Just let us know.

Lesley
